  • Nusret Gökçe nicknamed Salt Bae, is a Turkish butcher, chef, food entertainer and restaurateur famed for suavely cutting meat and sprinkling salt and dropping it from his fingertips to his forearm, and then onto the dish.
He now has a more casual sit down Burger Restaurant in union square New York City called #saltbae Burger which seems to be more reasonably priced, although you can still get a gold plated burger for over $100.
We have to ask the question Is Saltbae Burger NYC a PRETENTIOUS OVERPRICED GIMMICK for GOONS with more MONEY than SENSE? Let's find out as The MacMaster Reviews The Saltbae Burger and Saltbae Baklava Milkshake.

It’s probably more to do with repairing his image. Maybe I’m being cynical, but he’s been banned from a lot of public events after his stunt at the World Cup.

How can the restaurant’s in America charge these prices and then expect the customer to pay the staff on top the whole thing has gone crazy the owner should pay the staff a living wage

    • @sandradee1579
      @sandradee1579 ปีที่แล้ว

It's not America charging these prices as a whole? It's NYC! Gordon Ramsay sells the same cheeseburger at Harrod's for $106 and it doesn't include fries that's an additional $8. They're both tourist traps.

Great review, Mac. I tasted that burger all the way in Virginia. Your comment about bleu cheese is very accurate. There is a big difference between a fake blue cheese and a real layer of real blue cheese chunks layered below a quality burger. I used to get a bleu cheese burger down here that was decadent and delicious. From the soft, warm, toasted sesame seed bun, through the crunchy, crisply fried onions into that decadently juicy and tasty quality burger right into that tart, high quality blue cheese, yea, that looks like a fantastic burger indeed. The fries looked tasty too. Salt Bea's act got your attention but he and his crews attention to food quality will keep you coming back. Well done, Salt Bae and crew. Next time, I'd pass on the shake and get two burgers. And go home and pass out happy.

A number of people have mentioned the size of the burger. It didn't look very large to me, either. Remember that a 6 oz. burger is only 50% larger than a McDonald's quarter-pounder (which shouldn't be the standard for comparison with anything). A restaurant or pub burger that aspires to greatness would normally be at least 8 ounces.
I won't comment on the "milkshake" other than to expect that my doctor will phone later to scold me just for looking at it.

Interesting point about the NYC scaffolding, it's due to an old bylaw forcing buildings that have failed an inspection, to put up scaffolding to catch falling masonry, until the building is repaired, but the law didn't give any time limit to the repairs so building owners found it cheaper to leave the scaffolding up permanently than to repair the building.

I looked up the USDA rules for Wagyu beef labeling. American Wagyu beef, bought in a store, only has to be 50% Wagyu. It doesn't appear that a restaurant even has to specify "American" Wagyu, so it's very unlikely that for $22 it would ever be 100% American Wagyu, and almost inconceivable that there is any Japanese Wagyu in there.

Seemed very expensive for the amount you got with burger and fries but the quality of the meat looked top notch as soon as I saw it. Especially with the juices running out of it. And it is Wagyu as well so you’ll always pay quite a bit more for that quality. I’ll go a 9/10 for that. Milkshakes a bit more difficult to score but you’ll always find with Turkish desserts etc like baclava they can cause a major sugar rush if you eat too much🤣.

As a point of reference for what people typically eat, or can eat, over here in the NYC area, I just finished my dinner tonight in New Jersey, which is where I am most of this week. No pictures, because I don't have the equipment, other than a cellphone camera, and because I'm not (and couldn't) competing with Lee.
    Here's what I had, from a place called "Steve's Burgers 2" that I hadn't tried before (I don't think there is a "Steve's Burgers 1".):
A "Willie Burger", which was about 6 ounces and medium-well done. it came with Swiss cheese and mushrooms. This name means nothing in particular in America, but I can hear half of Yorkshire laughing all the way over here. It was excellent.
Also I had a hot dog, which came with chili sauce, onions, and mustard. This can be hard to find in NYC proper; it just isn't a specialty there. It was also excellent.
Lastly, I had an order of "Italian Fries", which came with sauteed onions and peppers. This is a little unusual, but I wasn't surprised to find it in New Jersey. I had my own ketchup packets, and enjoyed this a lot.
The whole shebang cost about $25 including tax, delivery charge, and tip, and was delivered about 35 minutes after I ordered it on GrubHub.
"Your mileage may vary", but this is fairly typical of what hamburger-and-hotdog people eat. No, I wouldn't (and don't) have this every night.

Not representative of America or even New York. Typical prices are a quarter to a third of what is asked at these kinds of places. Nobody living off a paycheck is going to Salt Bae or any place like it. Lee's vlogs provide a way for normal people to see what this is like.

I’d love to see a chocolate version of that shake. Burger was a little undercooked for me but it obviously tasted great.
I don’t know if it was empty in there because of the time you went or empty because of the crazy prices.

Was it better than the BJ's Brisket Burger in Orlando (I took your recommendation last year and thoroughly enjoyed that burger)?

Blimey. That's a while back. Funnily enough I'm in Orlando again now. 👍🏼

    Hi Lea
Have you ever tried triple fried chips..?
Try them & let us know what you think.

while in New York, you should try Paul's burgers on Second Ave and St Marks Place. Excellent burgers and steak sandwiches plus its a small business and not too expensive. I walk by SaltBae burgers on Park Ave South almost everyday and it's not particularly crowded either. $120 dollars for a gold burger - outrageous! $22 for a burger -much too expensive. I would give a 9.5 on looks alone. I don't think I would ever go there seeing that it is out of my budget.

Looks tasty af. But basically £25 bucket for a burger and fries (Inc tip and tax). USA prices have gone mad

Macmaster try Bareburger in Manhattan or Brooklyn. Also try John's of Bleeker Street for Pizza. A couple recommendations for you.

I reviewed John's of Bleeker. Take a look back. 👍🏼

Macmaster I checked and cannot find a review of John's of Bleecker Street. I did see your review of Bleecker Street Pizza. That is around the corner from John's of Bleecker Street. It's not the same place John's of Bleecker Street has a coal-fired oven.

I am 59 and have only had 2 burgers in my life ! (both from different branches of McDonalds) and they were both disgusting ! That burger looks good though. That SaltBae fella seems to be a right bellend !
