Absolutely all a cappella. I've heard a live version of this, and the drum sounds created by Layne Stein, the vocal percussionist, come across exactly the same. And yes, that was Geoff Castellucci, both as the lead singer and the creepy doorman. If you haven't taken a peek at his solo channel (seeing as how you enjoy bass), then you are seriously missing out.

Yep, that' was Geoff Castellucci. He's also the horrifying person who welcomes us in the gate, and the arranger for this one. The one with the gorgeous riffs was Eli (pronounced El- ee)
You should check out Voiceplay’s new Halloween cover of Friends On the Other Side!! It’s their best Halloween one IMO
They had fun with this. Also Geoff worked for Disney at one point in the Haunted Mansion which I believe is where the song is from so this is sort of an homage to that.

You can tell they have fun with their work which, along with the obvious (having amazing talent) they really engage the audience with their performances in these videos too. So fun. Thanks for continuing with Voiceplay 😊 also, as a side note, Geoff has his own channel and WOW will you be blown away with what he does with some covers. I really do hope you check that out too, but I know you're very busy, so it's ok if you can't. Have a great Halloween, whatever you may have planned 🎃

Yes, it was Geoff and yes, there was no drum set, just Layne. The guy that impressed you the most though with the riffs and the soft tone is Eli (pronounced Ellie). He has a lovely soft tone but an amazing rocker voice too and can also do all kinds of different character voices! He is not given as much credit for what he does as he should. Eli, Layne and Geoff are the 3 basic parts of this group with other members being changed these last few years. They also do most of the arrangements, production, videos etc
Erl with the very high voice was with Geoff and Layne from the beginning but left the band a couple of years ago. He is spectacular in their Queen medley. Laser voice. Cuts through you like a laser beam.
Lovely band in all of their forms through the years.

@@SSTVocalCoach Ok Sam, since you love Halloween you must do a reaction video of Voice Plays version of In The Hall Of The Mountain King it is theatrical fun at it's finest. I would suggest you listen to the classical symphony version first so you could understand what Voice Play has done with it. They will amaze you. Please do it. I am a big fan & subscriber of yours & love all your reactions & breakdowns.

The vocal percussion is done by Layne Stein. Yes they are hard to recognise in this but that is Geoff. I've seen it many times now and know who is who but you have to know them well. The guy with the riffs is Eli (elly) Jacobson, former rock singer and master if riffs and runs. The very high voice belongs to the larger Earl Elkins Jnr.

4:32 - So, that's wasn't fry, that was all chest voice, he doesn't use fry on Voiceplay's videos!
BUT at the time this video was filmed, his chest notes had a little bit of fry, they weren't so strong as now

Wouldn't put it past him since voiceplay's "grim grinning ghost" came out ~5 years ago, which is around the time he hit an alleged E1 in chest ("cheerleader" I think) and an F1/F#1 in chest (Twenty one pilots).
In addition to those mentioned (especially Hoist the Colours which I think is their best to date - a veritable tapestry of sound! ) consider their medleys, especially Queen in 5, and Boy Bands in 5. Earl and Eli (high tenor and tenor 2) really shine in those. Little Mermaid shows Geoff in a es hole be wss light. There is also a nice 4 octave drop for him.

@@maeco7 nah....facial structure is different, and i believe the same 'actor' played Santa in Oogie Boogie Song...I am referring to the 'Attendant', not the bust........>^^
@@ericturner7824 I've seen the behind the scenes video for this one on Patreon - you can see Geoff in makeup for both the ghost host and the middle bust. The makeup is just very well done and the short hair throws people who only know him with long hair. Pasquale Palazzolo, Geoff's brother in law, is only credited in one VoicePlay video - as you said, Oogie Boogie's Song. They have all of their credits in their video descriptions (you can see Pasquale listed in the Oogie Boogie Song vid, but not this one).

@@maeco7 just was on Geoff's Instagram page, and there is a photo of him as the 'ghost host'.................must have been the 'tan' that threw me off.......lol, thanks again.
