    I’ve got a brand new ATI aluminum DOT certified transfer tank for gas. The issue is that the majority of tanks are not rated for explosive liquids. The tanks rated for explosive liquids have baffles that stop the shifting of the liquids and fatigue of the welds whereas the others do not. I know you’re using diesel but going with a tank with baffles IMHO is the way to go.

    I liked the video, very informative. The reason why the fuel gauge went straight to E once you were on a 1/4 tank is because you have to extend the float arm on the sending unit. Thanks for the video

    Cuz we found out in a construction company back in the 90s we had over 200 fleets which meant we hauled a lot of auxiliary fuel in each crew true leaders truck and they were steel tanks

    The reason the DOT approved tanks are aluminum is because of luminum does not build up static electricity when refueling equipment or your trucks from that tank the way our company stayed in business was we had to put a ground cable from the fuel nozzle and ground it 10 feet away from the truck you're dismissed also had to put a drag chain on the truck itself as a static discharge this was illegal an OSHA approved by the state of Texas all together is still a pain in the ass this happened because another Corporation we're doing the same thing just like a farmer and filled out there that feeling from a steel tank static charge build-up and it exploded killing some people that is why you can only carry an aluminum tank on the highway

    I appreciate all your experience. It seems like a lot of folks are hating on your speaking skills, dude keep on fighting the good fight. There are a lot of good points you mentioned that most folks who don't deal with tanks on a daily basis may not know.

    What about semi truck tanks for extra fuel? I have seen it a few times, but I can't find much info online. Just a heavy duty aluminium tank from a semi, laid across the bed parallel with rear of cab. Familiar with this approach? Thanks!

    One Fleet owner that I know of he runs aluminum tanks in the bed of his trucks but he also runs a gout ground strap Stihl chain off the back of his truck or static discharge as is going down the highway it's never double Overkill if it saves your life and keeps you legal PS all it takes is one. A cop or Trooper having a bad day find a steel tank in your truck bed for transfer and fuel it's a hefty fine and he will put you out of commission this is not just my opinion these are the facts and the laws I've already experienced it the cheaper wrapped resin buying these 14 1500 $2,000 fuel tanks to put in your truck bed nice aluminum ones go to junkyard by 150 gallon tank off of a semi tractor build an appropriate rack to hold it in place with padding and rubber grommets this will give you a hundred 50 gallons minus 10% for expansion and it's a lot cheaper than the pretty square and rectangular thanks I mean they're nice but who's got a couple thousand dollars for a hundred gallon tank

    when you talk about trying to fill up with fuel in a state with cheaper fuel before you get into the next state, Isn't that irrational thinking because if you are like me with my semis, I need to keep track of miles in each state and pay the correct amount of tax based on the miles for each individual state anyway.

    do you have a 8' bed or 6.5? what length of bed do you recommend to fit a fuel tank and gear? I want the Ram but it doesn't offer the mega cab with the 8'

    You could save yourself a lot of hassle with a gravity flow fuel system from auxiliary to primary why have an expensive pump get yourself a RDS combo fuel tank toolbox stop misleading people

    • @sebastiangdad
      @sebastiangdad 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Slabaugh the valve would have be a large diameter so you can fuel up fast otherwise your tank might overfill

    • @deerepower337

      I have my truck set up for the last 12 years with the 5/16 line from auxiliary to primary and it has worked flawlessly I show full fuel until the auxiliary is empty and my gauge starts dropping when I fuel up I put like 50 gallons in the auxiliary and then fill the primary till the nozzle clicks I go back to the auxiliary and keep pumping by the time I’m done both are completely full no pumps hoses wires nozzles works like it should

      The other benefit to a transfer tank set up besides the ability to fuel up other equipment is the ability to add an inline fuel filter. You can filter your fuel before adding it to your tank and extend the life of the hard to change filters on your truck if you choose to do so....just another thought

      unfortunately, gravity flow systems are illegal to run in commercial vehicle systems

    Good Vid. I watched your other vid on sleepers too. I just bought a use 3500 crew cab with the idea of sleeping in the back. I didn't know that there were so many restrictions on sleeping in the back. I really wish I would have watched this vid 2 weeks ago. I probably would not have bought this truck. :-/
    On the note of the fuel tanks and weight, have you thought about removing the box from your truck to reduce the weight? That was what I was going to do. I see quite a few hotshot trucks with just fenders and a hitch on the back. Any DOT guide lines or restrictions on do that?

    • @Nordic_Mechanic
      @Nordic_Mechanic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah sleeping in car regulation is bullshit. Removing bed is legal, will allow to shift that weight into payload.

    Uhm ya know, uhm. No..... I don't know or I wouldn't be looking for info..... And fuel is alway pulled uhm ya know, from the, uhm ya know bottom of the uhm ya know tank......
    Ya know?

      Shawn Travels Ya know? Uhm, the pump won't draw directly from the bottom of the tank. There is always a space between the bottom of the tank and the sending unit. Therefore, in reality it is not pulling from the bottom of the tank. Uhm... 10/19/18
