Yeah it’s crazy out there, isn’t it? I really feel like I’ve got a good result in me at this combo, but I’m honestly not sure it’s worth the hassle to go back and keep trying!
Holy moly - not for the faint of heart this one! Super aggressive stuff, also a track with a bunch of corners that do invite lunges, and boy we saw some there! Enjoying seeing you back on iRacing chief, nice work!
Thank you lad, it was pretty rough out there! I used to pride myself on self preservation, and the ability to anticipate danger behind or around me. I needed those skills to be at their most razor sharp for this one. And sadly, they weren’t 🤣
My pleasure. If I have a rough day on track, the least I can do is share my misery 🤣 haha to be fair, I still enjoyed these races, despite the carnage.
Shame about some of the incidents you got caught up in there Chris but that improvement in your relative pace was brilliant and puts you in a much better position for your next GT4 outing. Your vids are always a win for me regardless how well your races go 👍👍
Cheers Tomo, yeah it was brutal. But despite that, I came out of it feeling much more positive, because I knew my pace was so competitive. Just got to figure out a way not to get obliterated 🤣
I would argue that you shouldn't turn that much in ACC as well - same with brakes (ACC just has better abs and less crazy tyre temperature calculations) BUT I see great improvement compared to last videos, nice job! Hint - if you look at your videos (both ACC and iRacing), like for instance in 7:04 - you will see, that your front wheels already gave up and you understeer, yet you still turn your wheel more. Instead of turning it more - turn it less so you can "fish" for more traction. You will regain grip faster that way
Thank you mate. So I’m planning to get back on ACC this weekend, and I’ll try to take some of these improvements and use them in ACC too. We’ll see how that goes! Thanks for the extra tip too… that makes sense, and I’d like to say I knew it already, but it’s the type of thing I always forget when the blood is pumping in the middle of the race. Cheers!
@@chrisrogerssimracing when understeering, the answer is to slow down more, not steer more. Waiting in turns is passive driving, passive driving means understeer. Always try to work the car to get more rotation, never just wait for it to finish turning. Decent improvement.
This is amazing! I was the no.11 car. Have seen a few of your videos and love your irl racing commentary style. It was a really messy race.T1 put me backwards. I then got turned again by Tobias. He apologised after the race. It was a shame as I felt I had pretty good pace.
Nice one. I’m sorry it took a mass T1 pile-up for you to appear in one of my videos! Certainly was a crazy one out there, mere survival seemed to be a pretty good result! Hopefully see you on the track again soon
It was well worth it. This has made my day. Had another go this evening. Started on pole and managed to make it to turn 2 this time, 50/50 on me this time as I could have left more space. But it was a bit of a dive. Ended up at the back but managed to crawl back to 6th!
@@alexpritchard4554 Nice one! Yeah I’m keen to try this again at the weekend, as I definitely feel I’ve got a good finish in me. But like you say, surviving the first lap is half the battle.
Yeah, with all my time in ACC and the like, I’ve become very reliant on radars, and have been poor in iRacing when it comes to awareness behind me, without a radar. I used to be really good at self-preservation in this sim. I’m sure it’ll come back with track time! 🤞
Great racing chris, the T1 incident was just clumsy all round, that Mercs was driving into a wedge that was always going to disappear, nothing you could really do, and the incident at the hairpin was also the Mercs fault (a trend perhaps?) Came from 1000 miles back took a terrible line through the corner and was not even past 90 degrees of rotation when he hit you, good job sticking with it though, i tried laguna last week in GT4 and shagged it into the barrier after a monster start, getting my iRacing juices going again… this is bad for my wallet
Haha yes, it’s not easy on the wallet! I’ve not fired it up for months and had decided to let my sub expire, but it looks like now I’m gonna have to fork out for another membership because I’m quite enjoying it again. Luckily my renewal date is Black Friday so I at least get the sale price 🤞
My god, this is so frustrating, Chris. There will always be idiots, but the difference in Etiquette from 1600ish to 2000 is HUGE. I started using Dave Cam's mentality: I don't care if I go backwards at the start; I just want to be safe and clean. Any spots you lose are usually regained by people wiping out in the first lap or two (this is especially true the lower the iRating). If you can manage to suck it up for a few days and just focus on consistently, I promise the SR will skyrockets, and the iRating will follow suit when you aren't even trying. Once you get a field of better drivers, it's safer to start fighting again. Sorry you got bullied so much here, made me mad for you!
Thank you Colin, yeah that’s definitely the best mentality to have. Couldn’t believe how aggressive everyone was… as soon as I saw the cars bashing doors behind me on the start, I knew it was going to be rough. Despite the chaos though, I’m actually feeling far more positive than this time last week! It was a real relief to find all that extra pace, and know that I’m competitive after all. Cheers for watching 😃
This split was HORRENDOUS. Man oh man I'm so glad they hired someone to redo the stewarding system because those jump starts and lane changes before the S/F line have got to go. It's these types of races that turn people off from officials, and the current stewarding system is wholly inadequate to the task of managing a race.
Oooh, are they planning to overhaul the reporting system? That’s such an important thing for them to do. Having done so much racing in LFM, where every report gets published for you to read the verdict, it feels like a huge backward step coming to iRacing… where reports just generate an automated email reply and nothing further. Hope it improves 🤞
Haha I’m afraid not! It was Split 3 out of 5 I think. So it was a split lower than last week at Laguna Seca. Now I’m getting a bit better with the car and the iRacing feel, hopefully I’ll be able to hold my own if I do get back up a split 🤞
Haha. Yes, I need to refresh my self-preservation skills now I’m back in iRacing. Before, I was very good at sensing danger. Seems I’m not so good at it now 🤣
Unlucky with T1 mate, not your fault. It's lap 1 and a tricky T1, if I was in his position I'd of backed off. The driving standards with alot of this races drivers are very questionable. You recovered well mate.
Thanks Joe, yeah it was pretty poor out there, wasn’t it! I’m exactly the same as you… I always put myself in the same position and think what I’d do, and there’s no way I’d have tried to squeeze up the inside there. I’d definitely have been backing out (but then again, I’m a known coward on the track) 🤣
Haha 🤣 no don’t worry, I saw you in my mirror and saw what a fast start you’d had, so I knew exactly where you would be as you came around the outside. Congrats on the win! Particularly from all the way back on the grid, P9 to start? Very impressive! 😃

Yes, the reporting/penalty system (or apparent lack of it) is the one thing that stands out to me, coming over from LFM, where they publish the findings of every report for us all to see. The couple of times I’ve filed a report in iracing, all I’ve ever had was an automated email to acknowledge receipt. Hopefully they can improve it.
No, sadly not. Unless you install a third party overlay. Which I’m always reluctant to do, as it sometimes causes me PC performance issues. I really miss the radar, big time.
@@matthewbyrd398Yeah likewise. On my last stint in iRacing, I got really good at watching my mirror and anticipating what would happen behind / alongside me. But I’m out of practice at that now, I’m tuned in to relying completely on a radar.
I can see some improvement, but especially the hairpin and some of the tight section and T1 you bleed off the brake before properly starting the turn in and then crank that wheel, still too fast and steering too much in some corners. Keep working on trailbraking and string theory. You steer too much to compensate for the understeer that you cause yourself with quick drop of brakes. I rarely use more than 90 degrees except the slowest and tightest sections like the hairpin. Steer with your feet. Trailbrake in this case. Hockenheim is notorious for crazy dives. Gotta work on placing your car in a way to discourage it and planning your attack and defense and escape routes well in advance. Hairpin is a regular spearfishing spot.
Yes definitely. I was actually far better at this in practice and qualifying. In the races, because the first laps were so bad, I was a touch more frustrated than I usually am, which forced me to slip into some of the bad habits. I was really hoping I’d have got a good rhythm going while chasing the front-runners, because I would have driven a lot smoother. But instead, I get stuck in the middle of all the mayhem and started to get sucked into the dogfights!
Tough luck, Chris. That was a couple really harsh races. I feel like most of the grief you got wasn't your fault. Drivers in both those races seemed way to aggressive and not so gentlemanly.
Yes, very much so. There wasn’t much I could do about any of those incident points, except for the occasional off-track I picked myself when riding the kerbs. Very chaotic!
I’d like to think so. I always do everything I can to leave space if I think I’m in danger. But in both races here, I’d already committed to the corner and it was too late to back out. Bit of a disastrous day all round 🤣
i dont understand why people try to win the race on L1 T1. like you have an ENTIRE race to gain posistion. calm down people lol. you did nothing particularly wrong everyone was in such a hurry to get to t1 for whatever reason instead of trying to survive
