  • Hello everyone, welcome back to Assetto Corsa Competizione for today’s Low Fuel Motorsport GT3 Sprint race at Silverstone. I’m fearing the worst here - it’s not a track I go well on, and I’ve been dropped into a high split.
    I’m car number 22 on a grid of 23, and I’ve qualified down in P18. My qualifying time is about as fast as I can go, so even making it into the top 15 will be a tough ask. Not only that, 16th to 20th are separated by less than three tenths of a second.
    I’ve had some tough ACC LFM races in my time, but this could well be a LONG race….

    Never ceases to amaze me how much progress can be made by simply keeping out of trouble. Well driven Chris.

      Thank you Simon. I used to choose this strategy quite a lot, and used it to good effect. This race, though, it was more a necessity than choice… wasn’t fast enough to keep up with them. But it also meant I wasn’t close enough to get taken out… sometimes it pays to be slow 🤣

    This race is a great example of the phrase

    Being quicker means nothing if you can’t keep the car on track. Good race Chris 👍🏿

      Consistency is key in any race, being ultra fast only helps in qualification unless it is a consistent fast.
      Good race craft and awareness helps to stay out of trouble.

    Well done, Chris! Awesome to see luck go your way for once. I was on the edge of my seat the whole race expecting you to get collected, which seems be what normally happens. Freebies are how I get most of my places when I race. But in my league, we don't have as much carnage as you see in typical LFM lobbies.

  • @CTSimRacing

    Races on LFM are definitely better if you just stay out of trouble. The amount of progress you can make from the back is insane. Silverstone was always one of my weakest tracks as well. Until this week, my best time was a 2:02.5. But somehow I've found a little bit of pace and come within a whisker of 1:59 and now usually run within the 2:00 mark almost every lap. By being consistent and not making mistakes, I got myself a 2nd and 3rd last night. Sudden and massive improvement on earlier in the week.
    I think some of it is getting a decent setup that fits your driving style. The Coach Dave setups I've been using aren't working for me but found one guy on TH-cam that provides some very nice setups that allow me to attack corners, especially Maggots and Beckets, much more in the Ferrari. The ones I've been trying are the ones by Fri3d0lf. I'm a bit of a coward so tend to use his Safe Quali setups for everything with maybe some minor tweaks. You're usually quicker than I am so give those a try if you haven't already.
    I'll tell you what, though. Never complain about the standard of driving on LFM. 🙂 Everyone's Lando Norris on LFM compared to what you find on Forza. It's almost impossible to get a decent race on there. 😤 I've tried. Don't think I'll be bothering with it again.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oooh yes, that’s the guy I found on TH-cam too, and used a few of his setups. After my last few races where I’ve had some spins in the Ferrari, I decided to go back to my ‘play it safe’ option of the BMW here. I find it the easiest to drive, and keep in a straight line. But I’m slower in it. Knowing how much I struggle with Silverstone, I thought the safe option was the wise one! My 2.00.7 in qualifying was really pushing it. Think I matched it on one or two laps in the race, but with invalidated laps. As for this race, I have no problem with bad driving standards when it’s not me getting caught up in it 🤣

    It's comforting to know I'm not the only one who struggles to get into the 1:50s at Silverstone. Even in my real-life oval racing, I've learned that in order to gain positions, just hang back, avoid the crazy guys, let them wreck each other out, and gain positions by default. Simple. 😅 What a well-run race. It encourages me for my Silverstone race in the Moza Challenge tomorrow.

    well done. you definitely do not deserve to suffer in rookie series. yet, just another proof how safety as a priority pays biggest dividends, especially when surrounded by rookies. once I ended up 3rd after starting from the pit, in a mid season race on spa with mostly rookies by collecting freebies and passing only on kammel straight for safety. also, I always wondered what those lap drivers are thinking, if they're thinking at all.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, it’s rough down there! I know I could just run a few races safely at the back and farm a good amount of SR, but when I only get to do 1-2 races a week, I want to try and make the most of them and at least try to get a good finish. Luckily, I had the best of both worlds here. My pace was way slower, which meant I wasn’t close enough to get taken out 🤣

    Don't you hate when back-markers still try to win the race lol , earlier today a back-marker tried to defend instead of letting me through after I flashed him so I put pressure on him to force him off the track

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ahh yeah it’s really frustrating. I usually pull aside and let a lapped driver behind unlap themselves, rather than risk them taking me out. But a few times lately, doing that has cost me positions on track… it allows the drivers chasing me to close in and, sometimes, dive through the same gap. So I tried to stay in front of the guy, but that didn’t work either… I got too stressed!

    The crashing out in front is helpful for places, but I don't like it when that means I have the fastest drivers on the track trying to make places back up behind me. Not uncommon for me to stack it when I get scared of braking too early because they're all over my rearview.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, that’s exactly what got me in the last lap of this one. I was so worried about the guy in my rear view mirror, I was watching him to make sure he was a safe distance away and completely missed my marker. The fact he was a lap down, was even more frustrating!

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You’re absolutely spot on. These guys are VERY fast on a hot lap, but aren’t so good when it comes to racing alongside other cars. Nearly all the crashes in this race were caused by drivers getting too close to the cars around them.

    • @daviddavies3637
      @daviddavies3637 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You will find that quite a bit on LFM. People who can hot lap but can't string a consistent race together. I've actually made a friend by playing on LFM and he's one of these guys. At times he's pulled out laps way faster than me but unfortunately keeps making mistakes. I thought I'd pulled out a decent quali time in my second race last night but he pipped me to 3rd on the grid and I think he stayed there the entire race. I had my usual bad start but remained consistent while those in front of me were dropping it. He then dropped it on the penultimate lap while trying to chase down the guy in second, handing me my second podium in two races. It was a shame as he'd driven a tidy race up until that point. I was catching him but had already decided to let him keep third, considering how late it was in the race.
      At the end of the day, speed alone isn't enough. Keep it tidy and the results will come.

    Its one thing Hotlapping and another thing is race craft,they hardly ever practice alternative lines and braking points going side by side that's why there are so many incidents, no point doing a 59 in quali if you can't race side by side.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, exactly right. Pretty much every crash I featured on replays was caused by that exact issue… drivers not knowing how to drive closely with one another. Thankfully, I was so slow, I couldn’t keep up with them and didn’t get caught in any of it!

  • @davidontherailroad
    @davidontherailroad 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    You may not have been the fastest car out there, but lap time is worth nothing if you can't keep it on the black stuff and pointing the right direction. If you want to finish first, first you have to finish.

    • @chrisrogerssimracing
      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly. Not enough people realise that in sim racing. Particularly in ACC… there are a lot of VERY fast hot-lappers, who then struggle as soon as other cars are nearby. So many of the crashes in this race were simply caused by drivers getting too close to each other.

      By the letter of the law, yellow flag rules are in place until you reach the next flag point, and the greens are being waved. So you can’t pass, even after the incident, until yiu see green. But these rules aren’t enforced in sim racing, so in reality, if you lift or slow down approaching an accident, you will either get overtaken or hit from behind 🤣

      @chrisrogerssimracing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah this is very true. I wish the sims could find a way to enforce it, as I do like to race by ‘real’ rules. RaceRoom has an option to add yellow flag rules, and we tried it for a while in community races. But it was flawed…would often force you to give a position back if you passed someone and they had a tyre just over the kerb, for example. So it didn’t really work.
