Knowing now that SZA saying she doesn’t want to be pigeonholed as an R&B artist and then being awarded the Grammy for best R&B album hurts. She deserved so many more accolades for this album from the Recording Academy.
Love language is my fav song off this album. I can play it on repeat in my car any time of the day lol. Especially since it samples an Aaliyah song. And not an Aaliyah song that was an album cut, she sampled a song Aaliyah did for the “Romeo Must Die” soundtrack - which was such a great and fantastic choice. The first time I heard it, I recognized the sample at the end and when I googled it, I was surprised it was a sample from the song “I don’t wanna”. - which is one of my fav Aaliyah songs

SZA is such a deserving album of the year winner. It is a masterclass in an artist allowing themselves and being allowed to experiment in all different types of music and showing the pretenders that she is on another playing field entirely. I love how you mentioned her wide range of influences and interests, she is very smart with how she uses all her references while keeping them distinctly her. My favourite songs on SOS are Low, Love Language, Gone Girl, Nobody Gets Me (song of the decade imo), Shirt and Good Days. All that being said, Taylor will win because the Grammys want to cash in on the Taylor Mania even though she doesn't deserve it 😒 kinda like with Renaissance losing to Harry Styles because he was the it-boy of music in 2022 for some reason.

The one we've ALL been WAITING FOR 🤩with baited breath 🤤 The amount I had this album on repeat 😭 the perfection of its imperfection with intention STILL astounds me. I'd really love for the Grammy's to live up to our hopes on this one. The disappointment would be rather loud for something that would give magnum opus if it weren't for the fact that greater and greatest work is still coming from her. I'm so excited by the artist she is and is becoming and this body of work speaks volumes to that. It just hit the psychic and emotional pulse of our life and times in a way works so rarely do now a days. You saying "heard of it" is something I need in alert/ ringtone form 💛

Midnights not only features some of the weakest songwriting of Taylor’s career, it’s also very bland and lacks real depth. It’s a good album sure, but definitely not AOTY material.

I have been checking my phone all day to see if this video had been uploadet yet! This album is obviously amazing, but I also have a personal connection to it. It came out just as I was writing a big important assignment, (cant really explain what it is, the dansih School system is… different) and I remember just listening to it between writing and researching, and it gave me those breaks I needed. Its just such a good record to the core, and personally I Think she totally deserves the win. Even though Lana really does deserve a win as well.
I actually enjoyed to slow rollout of SOS because it really felt genuine in the era of music where quickly made singles are shoved in our faces. My favorite SOS song is either Ghost In The Machine (with Pheobie Bridgers) or Notice Me. I also need more Szaologist content! I love SZA so much, not just as an amazing singer, but for her energy and character. She’s unafraid to be vulnerable and doesn’t worry about appearing perfect to others. *SOS* is an incredible album, and its success rightfully placed SZA among the A-listers. I listen to “Low” countless times every day and never get tired of it. With each song, you discover new layers of her talent. Plus, she avoids drama and focuses solely on her music. I truly adore her.
I think that I don't mind who wins AOTY out of these 4 amazing artists... however I believe that Taylor is def capable of better art than midnights. SOS and GUTS are def amazing sophomore albums and I mean Lana is always pushing an awesome album. I feel that (in my own opinion) GUTS or SOS should win AOTY because they really bring out a lot of growth and discovery in Olivia and SZA.
I've loved this series, honestly I'd love it if either Sza or Lana win this award since neither of them have won album of the year but their discography have inspired many artists to make music, some of which have won Grammys. Olivia would be nice too but I genuinely think Olivia's best album hasn't been created yet.
5:46 This is fr. I mean "Good Days" did absolutely well back in 2020 and now that it's on the late-2022 album something is different. It's subtle but it's certainly tweaked. The duration is different from what came in 2020.

SOS isnt really my music type, so I only heard it once to see what it was. But while it’s not for me, I do see why this is being considered. It’s interesting, different flows and topics. This video did a pretty good job explaining different albums for me lol
I think SOS is obvious winner for AOTY. It was both huge commercial and critical success. It´s a really interesting and artistic record in general. I would be extremely surprised it it didn´t win.

Seek & Destroy is one of the best songs ive everrrrr heard - Used is insane, Snooze obviously, Good Days was my anthem for like a year after it came out.
For me, it’s been such a cool experience to see SZA’s trajectory as an artist. I’m a huge and long time fan of the whole TDE roster and have been following SZA’s career since inception. Her ability to weave between so many different genres as a BIPOC artist spreading mass appeal has been such a gratifying experience. I follow a lot of your content not because of just Taylor Swift but I love your reviews and takes on pop culture in general so to see you speak on genres of music and reference artists I listen to like Aaliyah or Lauryn Hill was quite interesting. Would love to see you explore more outside of pop in the future ☺️
Her first project See SZA Run. It came out in 2012 and it's a beautiful composition for alternative R&B melodies and her going all in doing whatever she wants when she was in her early 20s. It was released after she attended college studying to become a marine scientist. Her EPs are definitely otherworldly.
I would honestly be surprised if SOS didn’t win. The competition is tough for sure, but it just feels like a stand out among all the other great albums

Sza really expanded my interest in different kinds of music and as much as I love midnights, 🆘 is something truly special.
Sza put her soul into this album you can feel it. She’s the most deserving in my opinion

5:46 This is fr. I mean "Good Days" did absolutely well back in 2020 and now that it's on the late-2022 album something is different. It's subtle but it's certainly tweaked. The duration is different from what came in 2020.

@@theswiftologist Same. All I know is that I've heard the 2020 version enough times to be able to listen to it right from my brain (you know?) so I can tell immediately that the album version is not the same. Yes, the production has more punch now.
This video just made me realize I need to re listen to SOS. And I haven’t listened to Al, the albums nominated, but of the ones I’ve listened to, this one should definitely win.
some of yall hating on them js seems so petty lol, they never fully 100% confirmed taylor wasn't going to win, they also made it clear that taylor's album was good, however lacked a base which other albums, such as guts, sos, and lana's album, did have. They never brought taylor down, simply saying Other albums deserved it more.

SOS isnt really my music type, so I only heard it once to see what it was. But while it’s not for me, I do see why this is being considered. It’s interesting, different flows and topics. This video did a pretty good job explaining different albums for me lol

I think SOS is obvious winner for AOTY. It was both huge commercial and critical success. It´s a really interesting and artistic record in general. I would be extremely surprised it it didn´t win.
SOS is artistic excellence at its finest. If the Grammy’s still believe in that, SZA or Lana will win. If it’s all about popularity, Taylor will win. I really hope it’s the first because my god were those two albums the absolute best of the year.
I love Midnights and Taylor, but compared to SZA and Lana? Give Taylor Song of the Year.

Seek & Destroy is one of the best songs ive everrrrr heard - Used is insane, Snooze obviously, Good Days was my anthem for like a year after it came out.
For me, it’s been such a cool experience to see SZA’s trajectory as an artist. I’m a huge and long time fan of the whole TDE roster and have been following SZA’s career since inception. Her ability to weave between so many different genres as a BIPOC artist spreading mass appeal has been such a gratifying experience. I follow a lot of your content not because of just Taylor Swift but I love your reviews and takes on pop culture in general so to see you speak on genres of music and reference artists I listen to like Aaliyah or Lauryn Hill was quite interesting. Would love to see you explore more outside of pop in the future ☺️

I'm officially old. I know nothing about SZA except her name. Where should I start?
Her first project See SZA Run. It came out in 2012 and it's a beautiful composition for alternative R&B melodies and her going all in doing whatever she wants when she was in her early 20s. It was released after she attended college studying to become a marine scientist. Her EPs are definitely otherworldly.
I would say start with CTRL and specifically, the song Drew Barrymore. Then listen to supermodel and the rest of the record

I so wish you’d do a video for the record by boygenius because I’m a huge fan but the way you feel about midnights is how I feel about “the record” it would be so interesting to hear your thoughts. I also hope SOS wins but I’m just very pessimistic it won’t go to midnights solely because it’s a Taylor Swift album and I think out of all the records nominated that record is least “deserving” (I like midnights and Taylor swift please nobody yell at me)

sza has this crazy ability of making us feel her every word like it's our own. in my opinion sos was absolutely gorgeous. what gets me was how it's so extensive and sprawling, yet fluid and unified.
