    How I use potato flakes: mashed potatoes, shepherds pie, potato pancakes, fried potato patties.

    I would use up the less tasty potato flakes in sourdough bread. I bake bread a couple times a week. I put leftover rice, oatmeal, cauliflower or zucchini in bread. I add about a cup to the dough to make a 12 inch pizza crust.

    Oxygen absorbers and desiccants are so inexpensive, I use them in everything (except sugars and salt) packaged for storage, even vacuumed sealed goods. We run a dehumidifier almost constantly. Our basement has three separate areas (1895 dungeon style - haha) so it can be a pain moving the unit around. Worth it. The slightly "off" potato flakes might make good potato pancakes: add garlic/onion powder, and chopped green onions. Or for Shepherd's pie? Again, you can add spices and herbs to mitigate the different taste. That was an awesome comparison test! Thank you.

    Grandma would make little potato patties, then put bacon grease in her cast iron skillet and fry them up. They were awesome.

    How to use the potatoes....add to soup for calories or substance, Shepard pie, mashed with steak, fried chicken, Salisbury steak, meatballs, or other. Make potato bread. Hope that helps!

    I love that you made this a learning and teaching opportunity! It’s such an important difference. A little oxidation here, a little oxidation there … best to avoid it as much as possible. Wishing you all well! 🙏❤️

    When we freeze dry our own food, sometimes the O2 absorbers shrink the bag down and other times it doesn’t. Never know if they are working or not.

    I was eating instant potatoes while watching! I use them primarily to make our families shepherd’s pie ( not at all traditional!). Ground meat, coated with tomato sauce and ketchup mixed with taco seasoning and extra cumin. Then top with a can of mixed veggies, then instant mashed potatoes and cheese. I also like using to thicken soups and baking bread.

    Potato leek or onion soup; gluten free potato bread (dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls, etc); breading or crust for fish fillets; ingredient in mix for lentil, fish or veggie patties. SO glad to have found organic potato flakes that are instant and delicious! They add a very satisfying taste and … I don’t know … dimension? … to an otherwise restricted diet. I tell myself that using them as one ingredient in a mixture with other vegetables and fibers is a good way to have my potato with less effect on insulin / blood sugar. I’m being asked to make a (from scratch) chocolate cake right now. That’s a great opportunity for my next potato flakes experiment! 😂🙏❤️

    I make fried chicken in the oven with potato flakes. I dip the chicken without skin in butter, then roll it in potato flakes and roast the chicken in the oven for maybe 45 minutes. 0:06

    ONION RINGS!!! Add potato flakes to the batter for onion rings like Chef John from the Food Wishes channel. Freaking. Amazing. Also soup, but that's nowhere near as exciting.

    Were the potato flakes used in both cans identical? Can you verify this information? If they weren't, then there could be differences in the quality and therefore the smell and taste. Thanks!

    In reality those cans wouldn't have had much oxygen in them in the first place, to cause much harm. I did my potato flakes in a 5 gallon mylar bag and used oxygen absorbers in them.

  • @ItsEverythingElse
    @ItsEverythingElse 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Why would you NOT just throw in an absorber. It's by far the least expensive piece of all of this.
