Same. I'm a huge sap for this. When he gives up his chance for fame to let her express herself and in turn do their home country proud...was too damn heartwarming. Wasn't expecting it at all for an otherwise silly comedy. Really wonderful scene and song.
This jaw-dropping song was the finale to the same movie where a banker was murdered by an elf and Will Ferrel rode across a stage in a giant hamster wheel.
Damn right. Critics are self glorified complainers who can't find a real job. All that education and the only way they can think to apply their vocabulary is to shit on artist's efforts? I think every critic needs to spend at least one solid month practicing the art forms on which they shit.
The idea that singing in a language other than English was a pretty good way to lose (not to mention singing a different song) and then doing it anyways-pride in your heritage outweighing the need to win...something like that. Or maybe I’m just a baby. 🤗

Rachel McAdams is wonderful in this movie. When we finally get to this scene, the song hits your heart hard taking the movie from a silly comedy to a delightful movie. Big props to the writer of this song and Molly Sanden who sang it.
Erick Ibarra Oh you can hear her at certain points in the movie & these two I’m sure of: 1. At the first dress rehearsal when she’s surprised by the dancers & pyrotechnics & 2. When she’s songwriting at the piano. That’s her & her alone! Another instant that I’m not so sure about is when they’re trying out the K-pop mix - it could be just her but it could also be Molly! The chorus for ”Happy” could also be Rachel on her own but it’s possible that it’s Molly too. They have similar tones! 😅
Erick Ibarra She doesn’t sing any full songs that I know about. You can hear her where I mentioned before, distinguish her kinda in the background in the official recording of Double Trouble in the verses but you hear her better in the first half of the chorus. Also her voice & Molly’s blend really well in the chorus for Volcano Man. Otherwise, what you hear is Molly throughout the movie & the official soundtrack mix! Molly sings Jaja Ding Dong & Husavik all on her own, as well as the verse for Volcano Man & the hook for Happy (maybe even the chorus but not sure). She also dominates Double Trouble - has a much more powerful voice than Rachel.
I couldn't agree more. This song is so absolutely beautiful, it deserves to win the award for two reasons. 1. Everything else nominated sucks and 2. Will Ferrell is singing in it. He's actually really good.

I did not expect much from the movie, but instead I fell in love with the story, the characters and this amazing song! How many are here after watching it?
This scene/song just makes me cry. This is Sigrit’s love letter to Lars and to Husavik. She’s grown up being told by other people what is good for her, but she realized what she wanted all along. She stood by Lars through thick and thin. They have a great and understanding relationship, but Lars had been paying more attention to winning the contest lately than enjoying the whole experience with her. And to be told by Lars that she was cheating, that must have hurt a lot. I adore Sigrit’s pure love, for Lars, for her culture and native language, for her simple wish of building a family with him. This song would never have been written and wouldn’t hold that much weight if she didn’t go through the struggle. I thought at first that the movie would be more about Lars’s path to success, but it turns out that this is more about Sigrit’s dream. If they did win, their humble life in Husavik would be taken away by the fame and fortune. If Lars didn’t sacrifice their chance of winning, he would have never known how he already has a perfect life with Sigrit back home. I love Fire Saga and how they bring joy to their town. I hope more people can watch this film and hear this song. The way she described her hometown in the chorus is magical. So much pride in her people. It’s so touching and enchanting. 🥰
Yeah they did a great job building up this relationship and their history just over the course of one movie, even with a bunch of other stuff going on. I credit Rachel McAdams's acting for a lot of it.
Lars kinda thought Sigrit is his sister that is why he keeps saying "Probably not" everytime someone points it out. You can see the sudden change on Lars face when his Dad revealed it to him on the boat.
Veng Ven i thought it was just a running gag, or a commentary on how Icelandic people are named with their dad’s name (then add -sson or -sdottir to it), so it’s kinda difficult to figure out if people are dating someone they’re not related to unless they really ask their date about it. I’ve been really bothered by the last scene though, the Ja Ja Ding Dong one, because Fire Saga was celebrating Erick and Helka’s marriage, so that makes Lars and Sigrit their stepchildren, when Lars and Sigrit are the couple first and had a child. I have no idea if it’s even legal in Iceland to marry someone in the family like that...
I too am a grown ass man, a metal head, and I cry real man tears every time I hear JA JA DING DONG! and I am not afraid to say it. Absolute perfection.
"All I needed was to get away, just to realize that I was meant to stay" this lyrics hits so hard for someone like me who always thought there is nothing for me here in my home. By going away, you'll realized that the people around you, people who has been there for you, are the reason why you need to stay.
When you are young the world seems to small for you... As you grow older you start to realize the size of it and find that so many things you thought are achieveable are unachievable because the time flies so fast. Once you are faced with that realization you are drawn back to where you've come from with a fear that you have missed out on a lot of important real life events trying to chase the distant dreams.
Exactly what I thought of my country! Me and my family were supposed to go to St. Petersburg but then came COVID. We went to see my childhood landscapes instead. I remembered it was a beautiful place but when I saw that lake and those forests and baby bears playing late at night in isolated area... I realized that I was meant to stay 😊 🇫🇮
I traveled the world a good bit, and no matter where I go, I return to my hometown. It holds my heart, my family, and my friends. The people, though imperfect, are my people. They hold my traditions, my history.

One of my bosses is islandic and he loves this song more than anything else. He translated the lyrics she sung and he looked so happy and proud. He made me watch this movie for the first time
Although Will Ferrell only does silly comedies, I found this film was absolutely perfect for his character. Expected it to be a cheesy stupid comedy, was amazed with it big time. Loved it. great song too
The first time I heard this song on first watch of the film, it was jaw dropping. As soon as she starts singing, you know this is going to be special. By the end, I was a blubbering wreck. It’s quite possibly, one of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard in my life. As Lars says “the perfect song comes from the heart”. And of course, that gorgeous voice of Molly Sanden. Incredible.
I watched this with my mother in law, it was a little uncomfortable during the statute scene, and by the end of this song I was tearing up like a little boy. Whenever I experience beauty, whether it's visual, audible or any other sensation, I can't see. Luckily, I was able to play it off, but I was totally not prepared to cry in front of her.
wholesome? people sexualizing everything, statues with genitalia on full display, a ship of innocent people being blown up, and a man being murdered...if you call that wholesome I worry about what you consider violent.
We’d already booked a trip to Iceland when this came out. As a result we added Husavik to our itinerary and visited all the spots used in the film including Sigrit’s house just outside the town which is actually a farm building. One of the shops in Husavik has a wall where a quote in Icelandic is painted attributed to Will Ferrell, Rachel McAdams and Molley Sanden. The place that was used for the external scenes of “get back in there right now and play Ja Ja Ding Dong!!” is an office. You can go into the church and even up the stairs of the steeple where Lars rings the bell. Our time in Husavik was the one of highlights of our trip.
That was to let the viewing audience know that she was singing in Icelandic so they weren't looking at each other wondering what was said since the whole rest of the movie is almost entirely in english. Every Icelander knew she was singing in Icelandic. Every non-Icelander who understood she's Icelandic knew she was singing in Icelandic. It was put in there to remove all confusion for those of us lacking in the IQ department. I thought that part was cringe worthy mostly because I can't stand it when movies do that. I mean, got the proud moment of being represented that they were going for, but that blurt out kind of killed the vibe of the song for me personally and felt more like an interruption to clarify what was going on, even more so as I'm re-watching the song. People are replying to this like it wasn’t clear it was Icelandic but I appreciate his tone of voice and face when he says that. It’s surprising to hear for everyone and I like how in the beginning, she says she wants to sing in Icelandic but she and Lars agree it’d never win the song contest. It’s definitely a point of pride for her hometown and family and friends

@@sleepy9426 I completely agree! I did not expect to have tears in my eyes at the end of this movie, but that is exactly what occurred. This movie is absolutely chock full of heart.
I mean, I have a very hard time understanding why people are calling the movie hilarious or amazing. If the music wasn't outstanding like it was, this would've been a major flop. There just wasn't enough comedy in this to critique it so highly. I mean, Will Ferrell's funniest moments were the two bits screaming at the travelling Americans and the bit with the Elves...his one line "MA MORE MEATLOAF!" from The Wedding Crashers was more funny that all of those combined and he was a minor character in that movie for like 5 minutes? =\
"Where the mountains sing through the screams of seagulls, where the whales can live 'cause they're gentle people // Where the northern lights burst out in colours and the magic nights surpass all others" are such beautiful lyrics, you close your eyes and you can really see it

@@KAMU13 Yes, but the thing about this song is that it's a part of the movie. If that makes sense. @@itsmekaustav77 the oscars should be about the quality of the performance and not the color or ethnical background. @@Yakuzan1 It's a great story actually. The Icelandic music composer who produced the song "Double Trouble" was looking for someone to sing the demo. His wife's younger sister friend (Molly) was around when he was composing and he asked her to sing to the demo for Hollywood studios. Molly did and they obviously liked it so much her voice was picked. I agree, great casting. Talking about being at the right place at the right time.
Rachel McAdams carried this movie with her acting and Molly Sanden carried it with her voice. I teared up during this song and remember thinking "wtf is happening, a Will Ferrell movie is not supposed to hit like this"
@ Steven The Seagull. Rachel’s voice was used in this song, it was blended with Molly’s in post production. Incredible performance by both amazing talents!
@Rafi Al Haidar that's cool, but the whole point of the speorg note isn't it's pitch nor it's technique, it's the fact it's the one note she put her whole heart and soul into it, referring to what Sigrid's mother said earlier in the movie: art should come from the heart not the head.
Molly Sandén is a Swedish artist yes, but it's not Swedish she is singing. Something in between Icelandic and made up words or her pronunciation is bad 😅I'm Swedish so I can't tell.

That is the spirit of Eurovision. Completely insane but so touching.

I have since been to Iceland on a personal pilgrimage and i must say - it was everything you could imagine.
This is a brillant take on art in general. You can make it good enough to sell. Or you can go the extra mile to make something that lasts.

Live version of this song: instagram.com/tv/CCExVa1BCKc/?igshid=1sen2m24sakrp
I still wanna hear Rachael McAdams natural voice after this haven't found anything
@@mathildabacklund5976 I Mean a full song not those small parts
That song would actually win the real Eurovision hands down.

There was something so powerful and raw about that man getting excited about her singing in Icelandic that I instantly started crying.
Belive me, all of us in Iceland felt exackly that!
It was such a moving moment!
I DID TOO OMG
Um, that's actually a really great breakdown of the movie, nice work. 👍
Yeah they did a great job building up this relationship and their history just over the course of one movie, even with a bunch of other stuff going on. I credit Rachel McAdams's acting for a lot of it.
For being a Will Ferrell comedy, it had some surprisingly deep moments.

@@itsmekaustav77 the oscars should be about the quality of the performance and not the color or ethnical background. I could not care less if they nominated all white or all persons of color, so long as they truly deserved it.
And by the way, Parasite, a Korean film, swept this year's awards. So I don't get the "Oscars so white" issue.
Some people make a big deal of everything.
By the way, I am not white. I am from South East Asia.
agree !!!!!!!
Harold del Castillo u said it well.. people trying too hard to be politically correct tht it ruins the enjoyment of it..
It must be very cool to be from Husavik and listen to this song, i'm from Italy and i've never felt this homesick for a place i've (sadly) never been to
- Are you Gay?
- Nooo, no! I'm Russian!
BEST. LINE. EVER!
Would have actualy work for some other countries, but well ... :)
Sisu
@@aurelienpiquet6711 That's exactly what makes the line so funny, if you know a bit about what's going on in Russia...
it's actually surprisingly true, there's shame poured on any gay person here in russia, so much so, that it's heavily discouraged
Hahaha
“Where the whales can live, cause they’re gentle people.” I’m not crying, you’re crying.
Exactly.. Gets me every time
😭😭😭
No.... N-no... I'm notUAAAAAAAAAAAH😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
That's just really a perfect and brilliant comment Olly!! [and yup, I am now :)]
No no, it's invisible ninjas cutting onion near me.
Whoever’s idea it was 2 cast Rachel McAdams deserves a raise
I think the one who casted Molly Sanden does!
It was molly sanden from from Sweden or somewhere in a Norwegian area
Rachel McAdams carried this movie with her acting and Molly Sanden carried it with her voice.
I teared up during this song and remember thinking "wtf is happening, a Will Ferrell movie is not supposed to hit like this"
@ Steven The Seagull. Rachel’s voice was used in this song, it was blended with Molly’s in post production. Incredible performance by both amazing talents!
Just watched this gem of a movie again. I’m a grown man and I cried…again
same😂
same
Well into my thirties. Same.
me too... no problem
Its a beautiful song.
When she hits her speorg note I totally don’t cry.
@Rafi Al Haidar that's cool, but the whole point of the speorg note isn't it's pitch nor it's technique, it's the fact it's the one note she put her whole heart and soul into it, referring to what Sigrid's mother said earlier in the movie: art should come from the heart not the head.
@@00metta00 nope it’s just a C#6 it’s not deep
@@lukebrunker264 No one actually cares wtf you are saying...lol.
@Rafi Al Haidar I'm not sure they or anyone could hold that high note that LONG
Same! 😭🖤
The Icelandic portion of this song was so powerful and beautiful. I couldn't understand a single word, but I teared up regardless.
Don’t worry I’m Icelandic and I didn’t understand a single word of it either
@@daya7185 same, sounds more like Swedish than Icelandic
@@ruduax I’m pretty sure the singer is actually Swedish so her Icelandic pronunciation is probably influenced by that I guess
@@daya7185 For some reason she says Husavík instead of Húsavík. Annoys me, and I'm Norwegian. :p
Molly Sandén is a Swedish artist yes, but it's not Swedish she is singing. Something in between Icelandic and made up words or her pronunciation is bad 😅I'm Swedish so I can't tell.
" Shes singing in Icelandic " brings out the emotional pride we all feel for the smaller countries we live in when the rest of the world is watching and seeing us when we achieve greatness...Gorgeous!!!😍😍😍
1:01-1:06 is my favorite part because the crew in charge of pickibg the iceland artist for the contents is completely blown away when the duo they though would ruin their chances has brought them the most hearfelt ballad to their country and to love. You can see how touched they all are and how strong of a memory has just been created. Being able to see their love for their country and music become intertwined in a single moment on a face is truly remarkable.
Saw it last night, had no idea what eurovision was but fell in love with the movie and googled the past winners and fell in love with them too
Christopher Garcia man zelmerlow is my fav
Welcome to the Eurovision family , my friend ! We hope to enjoy the show and the next year !
Christopher Garcia Conchita Wurst is my favourite of recent years 💜❤️🇦🇹
Same here.. didn't such a big singing contest is held every year.. kinda makes me wish if there were a global contest as well...
@@nasifsky no please not global it will ruin esc even more and add more politics

The elves had gone too far....😄😄😄
Funniest moments in the movie!
I laughed so hard at that line
Haha I just rewatched it and realized that their last names are Eriksong and Eriksdottir. Erik’s son and Erik’s daughter lolz
Hey bud we have the same name😂😂
I didn't want to watch this, but my wife picked.. watched it 3x now already
I believe in Elves
I said to my girlfriend let’s watch it and see how bad it is. Didn’t look away the entire movie. I’ll never judge again

We are all people. That's enough
"Where the whales can live cause they're gentle people" why am I crying
That single sentence makes me cry so hard, that and the way it sounds, it´s almost like you could feel the gentle people and the free whales vibing in that same moment, I still don't know how they made it but I'm thankful.
The whaling industry was huge in Iceland for hundreds of years
Whales are extremely gentle creatures and do not deserve to be killed by humans.
I cried too!!!
@@Bigevilfishy why does that matter? What matters is now. And now husavik is known for whale watching.
46 year old metalhead who hates musicals here. I love this movie. This song brings tears to my eyes.
Bro..
Samesies..
being a metalhead doesnt imply you are a hardass btw so nothing weird here.
The past few days I’ve been listening to..
Corrupted: Garten
The Body: The waters of the earth
Lightbearer: Silver tongue
Amenra : Mass III
envy: Recitation
Coldrain: Vena
and this one song from a musical comedy about Eurovision..
Same here, man and I’ve been listening to the soundtrack on Spotify constantly hahaha. 🤘🏽😎🤘🏽
Agreed, metalized to the core, this song had me bawling...truly amazing
