I'd like to help with subtitles in my language and create something similar on my country.

I have an idea of how to make our commercial Politician's here in America jump at the opportunity to Transition to Sortition.

Roger you appear to be very fixated on the idea of soritation. Why not local consensus based participatory democracy? Surely it is the community of people who are affected by decisions working together, through consensus, to make those decisions that is the answer? Soritation seems to me a poor substitute for this! Surely Random, even if stratified, sampling of the population will simply by the laws of probability give you the opinion of the majority (centre of the bell curve) pushing out minority voices? How would this method guarantee that a minority view, like climate change, would be reflected by the assembly?

It's worth keeping in mind this is a US unique problem in many ways, Europe, Britain, and Australia are (Mostly) further ahead. So this is less of an issue in such places. The US is heading towards this direction over time to.

The Assembly would be precisely about how to transition to a zero carbon society. It would be informed by experts. As we are *all* going to be affected by climate and ecological collapse, this seems like the best way to fairly address national level issues. That's not to say that it can't be replicated on a local level too. People's Assemblies are also promoted by XR, but as they are self-selected, there's the problem of being non representative of the whole community. A tendency towards being an echo chamber. In my opinion.

Hi, it's important to bear in mind that opinion polls of the public would have us reinstate the death penalty. Randomly choosing those who lead us is a nice idea but the views of the majority of them may be a long way from what those people supporting Extinction Rebellion would like. Educating them with experts may or may not work, and who chooses the experts.
My other issue is how we would get from here to there. Revolution is very dangerous, unpredictable and risky. It would almost certainly result in dictatorship. I appreciate that our current political leaders act like dictators with enormous hubris, entitlement, blindness and folly. The Labour (to some extent) and Green Parties are different now and present a far less risky way of changing the system. The system must change but the path needs to be clear. I am inspired by Extinction Rebellion but we also need to find articulate and charismatic leaders to act as spokespeople who people who are not part of the rebellion will vote for.
