    I suspect the neighbor who complained about the fence being taller than the hedges is the reason the fence went up in the first place.

      That's from the Robert Frost poem, but the conclusion is sad ... fences divide us.
      Something there is that doesn’t love a wall,
      That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it,
      And spills the upper boulders in the sun;
      And makes gaps even two can pass abreast.
      The work of hunters is another thing:
      I have come after them and made repair
      Where they have left not one stone on a stone,
      But they would have the rabbit out of hiding,
      To please the yelping dogs. The gaps I mean,
      No one has seen them made or heard them made,
      But at spring mending-time we find them there.
      I let my neighbor know beyond the hill;
      And on a day we meet to walk the line
      And set the wall between us once again.
      We keep the wall between us as we go.
      To each the boulders that have fallen to each.
      And some are loaves and some so nearly balls
      We have to use a spell to make them balance:
      ‘Stay where you are until our backs are turned!’
      We wear our fingers rough with handling them.
      Oh, just another kind of out-door game,
      One on a side. It comes to little more:
      There where it is we do not need the wall:
      He is all pine and I am apple orchard.
      My apple trees will never get across
      And eat the cones under his pines, I tell him.
      He only says, ‘Good fences make good neighbors.’
      Spring is the mischief in me, and I wonder
      If I could put a notion in his head:
      ‘Why do they make good neighbors? Isn’t it
      Where there are cows? But here there are no cows.
      Before I built a wall I’d ask to know
      What I was walling in or walling out,
      And to whom I was like to give offense.
      Something there is that doesn't love a wall,
      That wants it down.’ I could say ‘Elves’ to him,
      But it’s not elves exactly, and I’d rather
      He said it for himself. I see him there
      Bringing a stone grasped firmly by the top
      In each hand, like an old-stone savage armed.
      He moves in darkness as it seems to me,
      Not of woods only and the shade of trees.
      He will not go behind his father’s saying,
      And he likes having thought of it so well
      He says again, ‘Good fences make good neighbors.’

    If the neighbor doesn't want to see the fence from his side, rather than step the fence, tell him to grow his hedge taller.

    • @janrogers8352
      @janrogers8352 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      If the fence had been put up level all the way across, ignoring the sloping ground, by the time they got to the front, it would have been over the permissible height and would then have required planning permission. This way the neighbour couldn't object, which they can with planning applications, even if they wanted to.

Many team up with an editor, but your son would need an editor and a shooter. Very nice looking fence and a pleasure to watch y’all work. As to the hedge pushing against the fence. Don’t think that will be an issue. With the fence blocking sunlight from reaching that entire face, it will not flourish and is very likely to die back on that side, not growing at all except at the very top. So, the “ nonsensical” neighbor seems to have brought the eventual demise of that nice hedge on him/herself.

      Imagine if your whole street decided to do this to their front tgardens though!! It would look awful for everyone, the street would look like horrible compounds.Hedges are much nicer, especially privet ones in great condition like this one.

    When you slide in those panels do you also fasten/secure them to the posts? Or do they not rattle in the wind?

    I’m not sure how the algorithm brought me here(!) but it’s always super interesting to see skilled work! And the moment you said you’re ready for some snap, I knew you were from my hometown. I’ve lived out of the UK for over a decade, and I get so excited when I hear my home dialect!

    Love the English style of fencing, where if you need to replace a panel, all you need to do is slide the damaged panel out and fit a new one, job done in about 10-15 minutes. Here in Oz., you set all your posts, add the top, middle and bottom rails, and then nail your palings on. If you need to replace or repair a fence, it’s a lot more involved.

      I've always had the colourbond fences & the couple of times there was storm damage, it was only the damaged panels that needed replacing. The paling fences are much less common now (I do prefer the look of them though)
