I'm glad you agree that Taika looks hot in the Blackbeard outfit. It's so cool. Not at all historically accurate to have a biker leather daddy in a crop top on the high seas but he looks sexy so I don't care.
The outfit is a direct reference to Mad Max, if I'm recalling correctly.... And If I am incorrect it is from some action movie... I've not seen it. But those who have have said that it's literally the exact same outfit... So it's kind of funny and not historically accurate(this show, much like Bridgerton, is not even attempting to try and be historically accurate at all... intentionally) but it looks REALLY good.

I think you guys will like this quote from Leslie Jones who plays Jackie:

One of the most underrated but hilarious aspects of the show is that everyone just talks in their normal English accent, and all the characters completely ignore this, which is why you have this funny mix!
And Stede's is a kiwi accent if I'm not mistaken.
@@SaruCharmed yeah, Stede and Ed are both using their actors natural accent... A few of the other minor characters are actually putting on accents and not using their natural ones but a lot of the British actors are also using their natural accent. But yeah, it's not like every single actor in the show is using their natural accent... Some are putting one on.
@@AnxietyRat Yeah, The Swede and the first mate are obviously putting on an accent for comedic effect, but the rest are just talking.
Okay, the British navy officers are hamming it up a bit as well...

@@ivanabr @skrolle I met him at a comic con about a year ago, can confirm that is what he sounds like. In the show the izzy character is very intense so its kind of comedic and funny that his voice has that sort of high pitched raspiness to it. It definitely does come out in his normal speech but because Con himself is just a very nice and laid back kinda guy the voice isn't nearly as jarring.

It's more Kiwi humour than British I think? (Because Taika and Rhys tend to rub off on anyone in range). But although NZ comedy does lean more British than American most of the time, this show reads as a combination of NZ and American humor to me? But apparently Americans can find it a little dry or deadpan? I dunno, it's a weird mix but it works.
The nose jar is VILE. I can still hardly watch them drink that, even though I know it's all fake.
Taika is also one of the executive producers for this show (not sure you caught that), though it was written by David Jenkins.
If I ever get a parrot I'm calling it Pollyamory, thanks for the idea :p

Queen Anne’s Revenge

Waterbar Queen Anne's Revenge cocktail recipeIngredients
1.0 oz. Illegal Mezcal
.25 oz. Cherry Heering (float)
.5 oz. Lemon juice
.5 oz. Grapefruit juice
.5 oz. Agave
1.0 oz IPA (recommend Elysian Space Dust IPA)
3-Dashes Peychaud’s Bitters (in bottom of glass, before ice)
Directions:
Add Peychaud to empty Collins glass, then add ice. Build all other ingredients, excluding Cherry Heering, in shaker tin, with ice. Light shake and strain into a Collins glass over fresh ice. Float Cherry Heering and garnish with dehydrated grapefruit wheel.

So... I just found out on Google that Stede Bonnet "The Gentleman Pirate" was a real pirate???? I knew Blackbeard was real but had no clue he was too.
Yup. They are both very loosely based off of real people. Their personalities are pretty much NOTHING like the actual people were rumoured to behave... But yeah, the names are the same, basically.
Izzy Hands (Israel Hands) is also a real person who worked with Blackbeard
They also met in real life! Blackbeard did indeed save Stede Bonnet and 'kept him hostage' but didn't really kill him for whatever reason that historians still don't know. Pretty interesting if I do say so myself 😏
