this is one of the things that looks very difficult about being a referee. how do you position yourself at a ruck without getting in the way of the attacking team or the defending team but still able to get close enough to spot any funny business? it's not just for the sake of tradition that players show respect for the refs and call them 'sir'.
My refereeing career was ended by ‘getting in the way’. Missed a call 5 minutes before as was too far away from the action on a line break. So made sure that I was on the heels of the next person to make a break. The fullback made an absolutely brutal hit on the centre who broke the line hitting them backwards at a rate of knots. Unfortunately I was directly behind and as I planted my leg to stop, I had two players hit my knee side on. Torn MCL, meniscus damage and damage to the patella. Took me over 12 months to recover fully. Went back to playing as obviously safer!
It's only when you see normal people getting clattered bu professional players that you see the forces involved in tackles and runs at this level and the skill it takes to push through contact.
If I'm remembering it right it was a testimonial match, so nobody is really taking things seriously and its about having a good time rather than anything else
What the hell's gonna happen when Sarah Cox or another female ref, especially if they're small, reffing a big European men's game and gets caught up brutally. I mean, the odds are slim but eventually. Having said that, they'd probably take the hit better than Romain Poite seems to - whenever he got hit he looked like he'd been through an industrial tumble dryer. God bless Romain, I miss him 100x more than Jerome Garces.

My favourite is the Ospreys going in to form the maul with Nigel Owen at 4:23 😅

Getting back on the pitch after something like that to any extent is maddening! Props to you for going back for more after healing up
Sir Forde does it again 👏👏. Wonderful selection of clips. Now, about that competitive restarts compilation I've been waiting for. . . . . . .
th-cam.com/video/_S6O1v9G-aM/w-d-xo.html already done it mate
HIA for the referee is one of my favourite moments ever
5:20 Jeez, he got absolutely melted!
I love how, in football, when a ref gets in the way, they get jeered and booed. But in rugby they’re cheered. Best sport
At 2.01 looks to me like the no.7 actually pulled the ref out of potentially nasty place! Well done again Mr Forde Qualitay vid fella
So close to 100k!!

Very good Mr Forde !!
no arms tackles, obstructions, handling errors... one can see why those blokes only made it in rugby as refs...
0:53 Super classic! 😂😂
06:54 is a massive no arms tackle on Zac Guildford by the ref😂
Can you make an Andrew Porter Tribute?
Stopping Mrs Lawes' boy using only your left kidney probably does smart a bit.
Is it wrong to be slightly in love with Wayne Barnes?!?
Is anybody going to explain what happened at 3:40?
If I'm remembering it right it was a testimonial match, so nobody is really taking things seriously and its about having a good time rather than anything else
@@Fordmister cheers thanks
French spéciality ahhaha 😂
Holy crap, did the ref survive at 5:23?

I think you answered your own question. Not every ref is going to be 5ft 11 and 200 pounds
