How to Mail Merge in Gmail | Send Bulk Emails on Google Sheets

In this video, I have explained how to Mail Merge in Gmail.
Sometimes, we need to send one email in Gmail to multiple people in one go. However, the email body should have some variants depending on the recipients. You can achieve this using Mail Merge.

There are a lot of add-ons and extensions for mail merge in Gmail. But I have explained the free method. This method is offered by Google itself.
For this, you need to copy a Google sheet on your Google account.

The copied Google sheet contains an Appscript, which connects with your Gmail account and sends the email with the data on the sheet.
To run the app script, you need to authorize some access. This is required because the script will connect with the Gmail account.
For the email body, create a draft with the fields you want; each field should be inside double curly brackets {{field}}.
You can have multiple drafts, this script will send the mail merge emails for the subject you provide when sending running it.

Hi, thank you so much for your tutorial. I am using a domain email which already connected to gmail. May I ask that is this mail merge enable to send bulk emails which using the domain email as the "sender"? Because there seems no choice for the senders, but I need to send the emails by the domain email. thanks so much!

Hi,
It doesn't work with the connected custom domain email.
Before writing this comment, I tried changing the From email to a custom email in the draft. But when it sends the email, it uses the Gmail account only.
Workaround:
If you have the Outlook application installed on your computer, you can connect the custom domain email with the Outlook app (Watch this guide: th-cam.com/video/CUsvXJ9dcW8/w-d-xo.html ). Then, set the custom domain email as the default on Outlook and send the mail merge through Outlook ( Watch this guide: th-cam.com/video/NikC2cJ_tHQ/w-d-xo.html ).

It will work if you get a Google Workspace account for the custom domain (Here is a guide to start: th-cam.com/video/awHYJuKEYik/w-d-xo.html ), then you can use mail merge on the custom domain email.
When you have a Google workspace account, it is easier to send mail merge emails.

Thanks this worked but why does some emails says serviced invoked where the category email sent is?

This is because of the daily sending limit.

It is the limit for the sending account, and it does not matter whom you are sending.

Hi,
It supports CC, but the CC email would be the same for everyone.
To add the CC, open the script ( as shown at 1:57 ), go to line 98, remove the front slashes before cc to enable it, and replace the [e-mail] with your CC email address. Save the script.

Hi, it's up to the reputation of the sender's email. Also, when you send bulk emails, they often it goes to spam. For bulk emails, you can use a service like Mailchimp or Brevo.
