impressive artwork, as usual, Trent. the part of you that makes me more jealous is your confidence in "irregular" brushes. I tend to sketch all my drawings with a soft round brush and then lineart and colour with very rough, very precise pencils. The outcome is ok, but it lacks the good-old-school painting feeling your artworks have. About sci-fi artists, my all time favourite is HR giger, and all his alien stuff.

I'm a novice and like watching the work flow process from more skilled seasoned professionals such as yourself, and to be honest, it's almost impossible to find videos of anyone using it. I have a huge problem in my own work, with planning out my piece because my best work always just comes to me on the fly as I go, but that's also pretty hindering because I never finish anything because I don't know where I'm going with it or what my end result is or should be... So I'll work work work in this crazy zone until I stop to do real life things or I get bored and I'll never wind up feeling like I want to work on it because I'm lost so I'll start some new idea. 0:36 seconds, it's just gross how easily he puts her body together so naturally and without any guidelines,.. he's SO lucky to have a talents like that! I coun't paint my garden fence.
@@Dzaeli I've been drawing since i was 8, every day, and i just don't have the talent. LITERALLY i've drawn thousands of full pictures, and the reason i make money from them is the amount of detail i put in a picture is extraordinary, like i'll draw and entire picture of whats out my window down to the tiniest detail, but it doesn't look anything like accurate. i just can't do people like that
The robot is actually outstanding. I like it so much that I am hesitating to steal the idea. Nah, I'm kidding, I don't steal ideas, but I like it so much. Especially this purple fading in the area behind Hanna Solo and of course the intense green in its eyes that makes such good color contrast. I'm blown this time... for real. It appears that staying in your comfort zone makes out incredible results. :)
Ive just fallen in love with your art style and the development of this piece is amazing! Also the commentary nearer the end is really helping me understand a few things my tutor has talked to me about on my course
If one pick up a copy of Star Wars art & illustration books, you will see some of best si-fi artists work in full display. McCaig & McQuarrie's artworks, I believe are in there too. What's fascinating besides great digital illustration & painting is the thought process involved by designers/ illustrators/ matte painters. Who can do all this fun stuff on the fly. There is no overnight sensation in art. It takes a long time, constantly improving their craft to reach this point. Like a true blues musician, you knows blues because you have paid your dues.
Goffy Uno I couldn't agree more about the thought process. Whenever I draw I enjoy making the series of decisions needed to complete it. As I'm still very early on in my learning, it's almost more important than what it ends up looking like. If I learn to make good decisions then the end product will be something I can be proud of. Trying to apply that to life too. :)
We should be best friends. I decided that when I watched this. Let's start off by you bringing the munchies and coming over to my house. We can draw all weekend and watch Sci Fi stuff at night. Way to rock the inspiration, fella. This was a pure delight.
This is a very good video. It's really interesting for me as a beginner to see your process, from sketching to putting in the finer details towards the end. Well done, sir!
Also, I am really impressed to see a pro artist like you do all your sketch and pencil work on an Intuos instead of a Cintiq, which almost all of the other pro artists on TH-cam work with.
Great work as always, for favorite sci-fi artist i think i'll have to go with Sergi Brosa (Brosa on deviantart) because he has this really interesting sci-fi/fantasy/steampunk style.
This is motivating!! I recently got back into digital art...finally taking more advantage of my wacom pad. Then decided to get year sub on sketchbook pro, its pretty cheap and affordable!! Its on sale right now for peeps who are on the fence.
wow i am so amazed by this. I have been drawing for years but i only recently started using the computer and to tell you the truth i hated it because it felt soooo clumsy and as its not a sketch book you cant just blend and rub out or just turn the book. but now after seeing you draw i think ill give it another go. its sounds silly but i thought you had to use the layers over everything rubbing rubbing out was such a pain coz by accident you might rub to close to something else.
That`s an amazing job, plus a great talk about your work! Thank you very much for sharing this. Hey, I saw your videos about the Cintiq Companion Hybrid testing Sketch Book Pro. How different was the experience between both, the desktop and the mobile version? Take care!
This is an awesome piece. I know as artists we criticize ourselves the hardest but your criticism on your coloring is completely unfounded. The colors are amazing.
Thank you for this :) I never really understood the scope of what is possible with sketchbook pro until I saw this. Never really understood in what way I could have used the different tools. Have you seen the new Sketchbook Pro 7/2015? It has alot more features like gradients, more selection types, perspectives, movable symmetry lines etc.
Loved watching and listening to this. I'm currently reading your Twilight Monk books and really dig the style. I was wondering if it would be possible to share some of the settings to a few of the tools you used in this?. I just started using SBPro and they have a nice set up for working with brushes and brush sets, exporting and importing. If not that's cool just thought I would ask. Keep these great videos coming. Thanks.
The way you said you started off, like, with the buying of paper and such; That's exactly what I'm doing right now, and I have been for about three years. (I'm seventeen.) About once a month, I go to Wal-Mart to buy supplies, and then I look up videos such as these, brainstorm design ideas, and try to come up with new characters that I use to practice anatomy so that I can have fun while practicing. Hopefully I can eventually get a tablet. It would save a lot of time
kaedan henderson And it would save a lot of money. If you do the math on it, a tablet with sketchbook pro would only cost you about 150 bucks. Paper and pens/ink/brushes... that adds up a lot faster and gets more expensive.
Trent Kaniuga Hi Trent i would like to know what tablet are you using on this video, thanks very much!!! Also you should start doing some tuts on how to draw using tablets like wacom or even android tablets

0:36 seconds, it's just gross how easily he puts her body together so naturally and without any guidelines,.. he's SO lucky to have a talents like that! I coun't paint my garden fence.
not luck, he's been drawing professionally since he was 17, just keep practicing!
Such beautiful work! Actually kinda reminds me of a Big Daddy from Bioshock :)
Interesting thoughts, thanks for sharing the process.
Ive just fallen in love with your art style and the development of this piece is amazing!
Also the commentary nearer the end is really helping me understand a few things my tutor has talked to me about on my course
KatieePandaa Im glad that it's helpful to you!
The robot pinup guy is named Hajime Sorayama. VERY cool stuff. Wonder if he's made the switch to CG? Certainly be a good fit.
I'm a huge sci fi fan my self and i gotta say i really enjoyed the topics you covered in your video xD Neat painting man :P
This was a great video displaying the software's capabilities. You asked about favorite sci-fi artists; mine is Ian McCaig and Ralph McQuarrie.
CaptainPecato Masters of the craft.

Not only you're gifted, you're also very humble...That is a great combination, my friend.
We should be best friends. I decided that when I watched this. Let's start off by you bringing the munchies and coming over to my house. We can draw all weekend and watch Sci Fi stuff at night. Way to rock the inspiration, fella. This was a pure delight.
your demos are inspiring! I draw wildly these days... just so you know. thank you!
Excellent work. Favourite sci-fi artist since you asked John Berkey.
This video gives me ASMR, I can't stop watching ._.
Great work as always, for favorite sci-fi artist i think i'll have to go with Sergi Brosa (Brosa on deviantart) because he has this really interesting sci-fi/fantasy/steampunk style.
the 80s airbrush artist that popularised cyborg pinups was Philip Castle I think.
Thank you so much for this video.Your drawing is beautiful.
This is motivating!! I recently got back into digital art...finally taking more advantage of my wacom pad. Then decided to get year sub on sketchbook pro, its pretty cheap and affordable!! Its on sale right now for peeps who are on the fence.
Trent, I am a big fan of sci fi art, any tips or reference you use frequently?
For sci fi, I like to pop on a a great movie like Alien, 5th element, Guardians of the Galaxy, or star wars for inspiration.
wow i am so amazed by this.
Absolutely fab work :D
My fave sci fi artist has to be Wayne Barlowe.
That`s an amazing job, plus a great talk about your work! Thank you very much for sharing this.
Hey, I saw your videos about the Cintiq Companion Hybrid testing Sketch Book Pro. How different was the experience between both, the desktop and the mobile version?
Take care!
😳 oo man my dream is drawing like you. Respect!!
Amazing! I love the colours! :D
Thanks.
This is so fantastic! I love the style. One day I will get a wacom on surface pro to sketch.
i really like the way you color the drawing. simple and effective. can we do the same with photoshop?
Bro-mazillaz assemble! Love your commentary!
I feel like you did sketches for the borderlands games.
Cause this sketch has a borderlands sci-fi feel to it.
I love the way you build volume with a huge brush and just wipe in color. Can you describe that more?
I am really struggling with colouring. Could you give me some tips about how to draw linear (the best possible)? Awesome video, I watched it at least 5 times!
