    I know this video is old now, but I just found it and I have to say - as a beginning illustrator, watching your process is fascinating! You don't see many artists who render right on top of the same layer over and over and play with shapes the way you do and I love seeing it! It's good to see professionals who aren't afraid to be messy and paint on top of things and play around until those pieces feel right. Thanks for everything you share!

    Just noticed this was uploaded in 2013. Always loved drawing and I want to get into digital artwork. What an influence and probably the most rewarding 40min video I have ever had the pleasure to watch on TH-cam. Thanks for sharing!

    I remember many years ago, when I watched Trents channel for the first time (this was his first video I ever watched ) and I was sitting in my bedroom, my passion for art reignited ...than i played it for like 50 times again :D haha. Thx Trent!

    I think the long video and commentary is awesome. I am watch for the start to finish. The commentary along the way is great too. That you bother to do this is great too. It would have been like getting to watch Stan Lee draw and talk about his work. I'm very excited about these sessions. Thank you so much!

    *OH*. Not even thirty seconds in and I've already learned something that will help me immensely in the future. I've used a character style sheet before, but usually just as a png that I put to the side as a quick reference for later. I can't accurately express how hard I facepalmed over not thinking about that. Seriously, thank you. I'll watch the rest when I'm awake, but I appreciate the effort you've put behind explaining your process. It's helpful to people like me who aren't up to your level yet. (As I'm sure you know, but seriously, thank you.)

      Not many people can pull of these long videos . But your offering a wealth of info . You should make more of these. If the likes' are any indication; these videos are useful.
      Also, do you have all your custom brushes, and presents , colors, etc for download ? And, are you using a Intuos Cintiq , or Pro ?
      And are you able to draw a very detailed Marvel character. I was thinking Magneto ,Venom or Spiral .

    • @IPpainting
      @IPpainting 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Remnant his brushes are on the gumroad page in this video's description if you have noticed
      And there is no Intuos Cintiq
      He uses a intuos pro M and the other tablet type is just simply called Wacom Cintiq :p
      and for the info if people might not find him, his name is Katsuya Terada

    My advice would be to start out small man. Don't overwhelm yourself with expectations. Focus on enjoying the exploration. There is no time frame, there is no goal. Just get comfortable with it. If you're used to working with paper, maybe you should try just using the pencil tool in Corel Painter. It handles similarly to working with a real pencil. Then level up by using the blending tools to get that real paper smudge look:) Stick with it man.

  • @TrentKaniuga
    @TrentKaniuga  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I mostly emulated a lot of other artists in my early years. Now I can pretty much dissect most artists techniques, but draw however I want depending on the piece and what my intention is. I study the real world, and films, breaking down and emulating what I see when I like something in both visual understanding and storytelling.

  • @TrentKaniuga
    @TrentKaniuga  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    When I switch to Corel Painter in the video, I'm mostly just using the digital watercolor brush which paints over the same layer as the lineart. But sometimes I'd have a new layer to paint over everything, lines and all to clean up stuff.

    Thats an interesting question man. If it's more stressful than fun? Well there are 2 kinds of stress. There's distress, which hurts your confidence, and weakens you, and there's eustress, which makes you stronger and increases your confidence. If you're playing basketball against pros, you're gonna get discouraged. Don't make art a competition. If you like something you see, try to emulate it. Don't put pressure on yourself and enjoy it. If you can't enjoy it... in any capacity then I say stop.

  • @okamichamploo

    forgive me if someone already asked, but I noticed you start with some grey scale work before you started adding the color. Could you explain a bit how you made that trasition? Did you just paint over the grey scale, or did you use a layer effect to keep the grey scale values while adding the colors?
    I`ve done a lot of experimenting with color layers, but never seem to get the colors to come out just as I want.

    • @ThatGBAGamer
      @ThatGBAGamer 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think of gray scaling as the sketching of color. If you understand the grey scale of the image you have made then you are able to color things way easier.

    '--I used to draw him with those short sleeve sweaters. I dunno, I was into those, I used to wear those, with leather pants. I know, don't judge man, it was a weird time for me. I was going to gothic clubs, and dating dominatrixes--' DUDE that's a story in itself! XD You could make a book out of that sentence alone.
    Anyway, it's great to see a process like this a bit slower. It makes me feel better about sketching messily. I have a habit of trying to be too perfect on the first layer of the sketch. It's horrible. I'll end up spending an hour on what was supposed to be just a 30-second idea and end up getting too exhausted to move onto the shading (which is what I love the most). Thanks so much!!

    Maybe you want to go into game DESIGN? Designers create quests and balance enemy placement/combat scenarios. The job is different depending on the game type, but for the most part, Designers are the people that make the game fun, and artists are the people that make the game pretty to look at. I like to think that they both should work together to accomplish both objectives though.
