    I tried a little experiment, instead of a Dacron connector I sleeved the top 3 inches with hollow elastic then just tied a double overhand knot in it. It did not disappear into my top kit and then double loop method fitted easy onto it, very safe as the line could not cut into the double elastic and also an immediate strike as no Dacron or bead to move first,, Try it guys, it works fine and no expense paying for connectors.

    I always leave a tag on my loop so when it comes to removing the rig I just pull the tag of line and off it comes, very handy in the winter when hands are cold 🥶

    I love these basics films, I think they’re really useful. What I’d like to see is a shooting film. So, the weight difference between the numbers and the amount of shot on the line for a 4x16, 4x14 that kinda thing. I personally really struggle as it’s usually no8’s all over the place.

    ive never cut my small loop on the large loop ,will be doing from now on as makes sense to do so .

    I use the single loop, on small lines use a baiting needle to lift the loop up👌

    I still use stonfos as I like to do as few knots as possible on the bank side as I can't feel the line in my fingers when tying loops etc. If stonfos damage elastic maybe a dacron on the elastic and a stonfo tied on to the dacron and then the rig connected to the dacron connector could be a good halfway house?

    I weigh the pros and cons of each and use what is best for what the situation requires, for shalla and through the water tapered rigs i use direct to the laccy with a bead, for down the edge i want a dacron so i never have to worry about durability issues if i foul hook an elephant, which i have done before on cudmore arena lake, rig-rig + end of elastic + bead all went bye bye that day.

    I use the two loops to dacron but I tie the small loop first I find this much easier

    I buy dacron connectors but i find them too long, so i shorten them so there's about 1cm if that sticking out the bead.

  • @OneDaveAtaTime
    @OneDaveAtaTime 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Short Dacron every time no line cuts into the elastic or danger of elastic pulling into the top kit

    What about the fine, solid 4's, 5's and 6's that canal / natural venue anglers sometimes use?

    • @winningwaysbasics
      @winningwaysbasics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Again personal preference but you do see a some lads favouring the old school stonflo type connectors for the really light ones. We very rarely go below a solid 5 even for silvers but still tend to use a small Dacron.

    What's the advantage of the bead method over the old school crows foot connection?

    • @winningwaysbasics
      @winningwaysbasics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A bit neater and when it comes to re tying knots when it’s worn you use less elastic each time as it’s just an overhand knot meaning it lasts a lot longer 👍🏻

    A fishery near me are charging £5 a pint of caster and £4 for maggots, F-ing scandalous. 2019 i was paying £2.50 and £2 for maggots but, i buy bulk 25kg bags of pellets for £35 which last me up to 2 years.

  • @jamesd2708
    @jamesd2708 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tried it both ways but I find the bead ends up 2ft up the elastic away from the pole rig and I have to pull it down every time I get a fish.
    How do you stop this from happening? Thanks

      You want a nice snug bead, Andy uses the ones off a Preston Dacron and due to the design it clicks into place a bit more securely than some

      Just match it to the size of elastic you use. Most manufacturers do a range of sizes.

  • @rikkiegglesden5295
    @rikkiegglesden5295 ปีที่แล้ว

    Andy saying his way is simple compared to Jamie's way lol how is that more simple ?. I always just do one loop plus leave rigs left on top kits so second loop is completely unnecessary. Even silvers rigs the main line is never going to be that light.
