Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are two of the absolute best metal albums ever. The latter is my favourite album of all time. Cliff Burton was massively important to Metallica’s early sound. Not sure if you guys caught it, but the beginning of For Whom the Bell Tolls is all Cliff’s bass playing. He also makes those distorted “wow” noises in The Call of Ktulu. He was a true master of his craft, RIP Cliff 🤘🏻
Awesome album choice, guys! Metallica is legendary, and this is probably their best. But if you’re still exploring the roots of metal, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest are the true trailblazers. Sabbath made it heavy, Priest made it metal. Legendary vocalists and both bands dual guitar work and vocal prowess laid the groundwork for bands like Megadeth and Metallica and shaped the entire genre. I’m so old, my first Metallica albums were on cassette and the opening track on here was my introduction to Metallica. My brother made a copy of that song on my cassingle and told me to check it out. I didn’t get RTL at first, because it wasn’t at Walmart, but Justice was and I got that instead (at the time, Justice was the newest one available).
Don’t know if you guys knew, but the intro to Bells was done on bass. The night pitched wah wah was done by the late cliff burton, probably the best bassist of all time
As a 16 year old, seeing them live in '89, the nation in the grips of the Satanic Panic....Creeping Death was mind blowing. Being in the pit chanting "DIE DIE DIE" was so powerful.
I’m 53 and grew up listening to Metallica…seeing you guys reacting to these songs the way I did when I first heard them is just wild! Full circle! You DEFINITELY should do Master Of Puppets! Greatest metal album ever!! Keep rocking guys!
I swear no-one in this world can headbang in the right rhythm to the opening track 😅 You just naturally start nodding your head to the beat of the snare on the verse but when the second riff hits your neck is like "what just happened". I was only able to hear the riff as it's supposed to be when I heard the instrumental demo version of the song. What a great album, and actually it was Escape that originally made me fall in love with the band in the eighties. I had heard One and some other tracks but the chorus of Escape just stuck in my head. Love that song and I don't care what others think. And the way that the chorus is in major key at first and in the end in minor key. Also Fade in Black is quite a different song as it has a chorus without vocals. And you still want to sing to it.
The last song, Call of Ktulu, is an instrumental. And while it may seem a bit repetitive initially, try listening between the lines because that entire section before the guitar solo is a canvas for Cliff Burton, their bassist, to do cool stuff on the bass, in essence, he's doing lead lines almost the entire time, if you want to pick it out easier, it's the noises that sound a bit like a massive creature underneath the other instruments, imo he's trying to replicate Ktulu moving under the waters in the oceans
@@Dunnay48 A part of me believes this was done with Cliff's okay, plus the fact that they weren't exposed to high calibre professional mixers at that point. I can't picture a scenario where someone with Cliff's influence on the band can lie down on something as vital as how he sounded.
@@njldst2007 hmm that might be it, i've just heard *not necessarily true then i guess* that Cliff wouldn't stay around much during the final mastering, which would then mean he wouldn't be there to defend his audibility, etc etc made quiet in the mix.
@@Dunnay48 Could be that too, who knows. One thing I did notice is that after I was aware of the bass' sound, I feel like I notice it much more easier the following listens, so it's like a cool easter egg of sorts I guess

Of all their albums, RTL is still my favorite. It's been 30 years since I first heard it, and I know exactly where I was when I did. Who I was with. How I felt afterwards. Some fun facts for you -The "Bell" you hear at the beginning of For Whom the Bell Tolls is in fact NOT a bell. It is drummer, Lars Ulrich, hitting a very large anvil with a hammer. -Fade to Black was written in an apartment in '84. It was shortly after all of their gear was stolen outside of a gig in Boston, MA. Containing a Marshall that his Mother helped him purchase before her passing. -The bridge section of Creeping Death was written by Kirk when was 16 years old. It was originally used in his first band, Exodus and was called "Die By His Hand"
I think they will be ready for Reign in Blood one day. It has to be done at some point in time. It is in the top 5 metal albums of all time and one of the heaviest albums ever made.
To think that the mind of a young Cliff conceived the idea of making a song so abstract through the idea of making of instrumental piece about a weird ancient lovecraft god where his distorted bass was like the voice of that unkown universal entity always I loved that idea, very genius
You guys gotta bring Little Man back and do Deep Purple's album, Machine Head. It's a killer record. It's also one of the most rocking ass organ players in the world. That record has something for everyone: shredding organ for Little Man, shredding guitars for the guitar enthusiasts, killer drums for the drum enthusiasts. Machine Head is one of the records that made Metal what it would eventually become.

Iron Maiden and Judas Priest soon please! Number of the Beast, Powerslave for Maiden and for Priest Sad Wings of Destiny and Painkiller.

Yes please!! The best concert ever! And Jason's back vocals are perfect ❤
@@beatmet2355me too 🤘🏻😎
Agreed! The best live concert recording for any artist that I’ve ever seen. Absolutely amazing!

"SING IT❗️"
"What is it?!"
For Whom the Bell Tolls 🎸🤘🤘🔔
I’m so old, my first Metallica albums were on cassette and the opening track on here was my introduction to Metallica.
My brother made a copy of that song on my cassingle and told me to check it out. I didn’t get RTL at first, because it wasn’t at Walmart, but Justice was and I got that instead (at the time, Justice was the newest one available).
Don’t know if you guys knew, but the intro to Bells was done on bass. The night pitched wah wah was done by the late cliff burton, probably the best bassist of all time
Little man is my fav member, guest or not.
I'm 52 years old, and remember banging my head to this at your age and earlier. It was bad ass then, too!
As a 16 year old, seeing them live in '89, the nation in the grips of the Satanic Panic....Creeping Death was mind blowing. Being in the pit chanting "DIE DIE DIE" was so powerful.
Welcome to true talent. This is a perfect example of genius.
don't forget about their first album kill em all. definitely a recommendation to understand Metallica's early roots
I’m 53 and grew up listening to Metallica…seeing you guys reacting to these songs the way I did when I first heard them is just wild! Full circle! You DEFINITELY should do Master Of Puppets! Greatest metal album ever!! Keep rocking guys!
Fight Fire With Fire is my favorite song period
Thank you , little man.
That movie with the wet sponge was The Green Mile (1999).
Little man liking this more than Slipknot's ST was pure betrayal lol
On a serious note, cool video
love you guys reaction, and love that sitka hoody🤙
The last song, Call of Ktulu, is an instrumental. And while it may seem a bit repetitive initially, try listening between the lines because that entire section before the guitar solo is a canvas for Cliff Burton, their bassist, to do cool stuff on the bass, in essence, he's doing lead lines almost the entire time, if you want to pick it out easier, it's the noises that sound a bit like a massive creature underneath the other instruments, imo he's trying to replicate Ktulu moving under the waters in the oceans
I can't believe they (james and lars) made the bass mix so low though :(
@@Dunnay48 A part of me believes this was done with Cliff's okay, plus the fact that they weren't exposed to high calibre professional mixers at that point.
Everyone: yeah i really liked that yeah
“What do you think, little man?”
Little man: 🎩🤵💸
Great reaction and this was my first of you guys but not last. "I was me but now he's gone" what a lyric and song
The Green Mile was the movie where the guy catches fire in the electric chair. Written by Stephen King. And the orison guard does that on purpose to make the guy suffer. Wild.
iowa from slipknot is a must
I really like you guys. I'm 53, and have seen my boys eleven times. It's very refreshing watching you young guys listening and loving Metallica! Metallica and King James forever!
Creeping Death Is a song about the Passover. Call of Ktulu (Cthulhu) Is Cliffs gem. Rest In Peace, Cliff.
Cliff's gem is Orion. Hands down
I also disagree, Orion is Cliff's finest work.
Of all their albums, RTL is still my favorite. It's been 30 years since I first heard it, and I know exactly where I was when I did. Who I was with. How I felt afterwards.
Some fun facts for you
-The "Bell" you hear at the beginning of For Whom the Bell Tolls is in fact NOT a bell.
I honestly prefer Ride the Lightning over Master of Puppets.
Saw Metallica live in Detroit and they played Ride The Lightning so damn well. The whole concert made me want to cry. I hope to see them again!
Love seeing the young guys appreciate our jams.
oh man, this brings me back when I was a kid and I first listened to metallica kill em all cassette, from then on it was all metal for me
Give us Slayer Reign in Blood. You are all beautiful guys.
This! Although that might be a little advanced for them..
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 nah lets throw em into the deep end with meshuggah lol they'll have a stroke
I think they will be ready for Reign in Blood one day. It has to be done at some point in time. It is in the top 5 metal albums of all time and one of the heaviest albums ever made.
Ill literaly die to see you guys reacting and justice for all
Nice Little Man caught the key change in Fade to Black
The original release in the 80’s has an additional song , a cover version of Am I Evil. Which is really awesome. 🤩
Creeping Death, not a sleeper. They still play it at probably most of their concerts.
FYI- my first time on your channel and I have to say little man is a must.
The movie of the sponge and the electric chair is Green Mille. You need to watch it. Wholesome movie
Awesome.. I like it unedited.. it's great watching you guys rock out
To think that the mind of a young Cliff conceived the idea of making a song so abstract through the idea of making of instrumental piece about a weird ancient lovecraft god where his distorted bass was like the voice of that unkown universal entity
always I loved that idea, very genius
Remember guys, this album is now 40 years old. Take a moment to process that.
I was in the situation that this song describes and it really resonated with me, this song helped me get out of that situation.
So pumped that u guys listened to the older stuff. There’s just no comparison between 80s Metallica and the black album.
Also, this album’s theme was from Lars’s obsession with the topic of death during that time. He was curious, and he and James wrote about it.
Wow what a beautiful album. Forgot how the track list goes and I was rockin out with y’all🙏🏻
