Teen wolf was really cute, it was really good at incorporating gay relationships naturally and not just one token couple. For that it has a gold star from me, because it doesn't take much to get that right.
Lizz Locke right! It doesn’t feel forced and there are more than one gay couple. They don’t end in absolute fucking tragedy and the actors have chemistry. I’m a gay teenager so I tend to enjoy shows that have gay characters over ones that don’t, and I appreciate that the gay characters Weren’t exaggerated or ostracized, but more or less just another couple making out in the back of the bus, no biggie. As it should be.
Kate B. Actually I do question hetero couples. For example, stiles and Lydia should’ve stayed really close friends with deep connection, but because they were shipped and became endgame, they were forced together when we all know Both Lydia and Scott change love interests like they change clothes.

Also, the film industry in general has a lot more practice making hetero couples a back burner detail but with gay couples it’s always extremely highlighted and blown out of proportion, and that annoys me. You must remember that this isn’t real life so couples CAN be forced here because their ship fans have influence. In real life the Social influence is still there but there’s a choice for ppl to be their true selves or be closeted, in shows usually gay couples are queer-bait cash grabs at the expense of the rest of the plot and it’s truly up to the producers how they want the show to go. If they really wanted one famous ship to happen and an actor wasn’t comfortable playing a gay role, I can confidently say that if they were desperate enough they would have a drastic time skip happen and change actors for a character.
Yes I agree, I'm also a gay guy and I can tell you it's blatantly obvious when they force gay couples into a show such as with RWBY and its usually highlighted as forcing a gay couple as opposed to bad pairings because it often can come from this perception that representation means that they simply have to have a character of a minority to represent that minority. The problem then lies in the way of how they handle that because it comes from a flimsy political motivation instead of a creative one and then the character or relationship gets treated with poor development. And I get that it used to be there weren't any gay characters at all but now that it is more widely accepted in American media which is great but we also deserve to have characters who are well written and represent that even though we are gay it is part of our identity and we encapsulate that part with other characteristics NOT the other way around. Homophobia at this point is probably more evident in token gay characters because it shows that a show doesn't actually care to develop their gay characters which in turn presents gay characters in a bad light. I consider it progressive if a show has a gay character but I consider it representative when they take the time and effort to make a well written gay character that is relatable to people in general and gay people especially.
