hello, i thought this would be the best place to get some turkey pen inspiration, i will be building a turkey pen very soon. great video, thanks (off to watch part 2)
My pen is 20 feet long and 9 foot wide. The pony wall is 24 inches tall and the total height is right at 8 foot. I wanted it tall to fit the space available in front of the barn - plus the turkeys love to perch up high. You could easily make it wider and shorter for your goats. The 16 ft long panels arch up easily with just a couple of people working together to handle the bulk. This design could be as long or short as you wanted, just by adding or subtracting panels.
Great use of resources. I am not a homesteader, but I would be if given the opportunity and God changes my husband's heart regarding homesteading, or changes in general. I am new to your channel. I have a channel as well. I would appreciate if you could check it out. Nice to meet you
Nice to meet you too Patrice. It doesn't take land, or animals, or even a garden to be a homesteader... just the will. I had a personal slogan for years. "Stop Dreaming about the Good Life and Just Start Living It!" That is how I got started. My first true homesteading was done in a one bedroom apartment in the city. I just jumped in and started learning. My husband was not, and in many ways is still not, into the whole homesteading thing. Funny thing is that he likes to eat! That is how I have won him over to the dark side after all of these years, since a lot of homesteading is about producing delicious food. I started by learning the basics of homesteading skills such as cooking from scratch, baking, pickling, jellies, canning, dehydrating etc... right in that apartment. I was homesteading away and learning lots and he got to eat my homework. Slowly he learned that turning me loose to do strange pursuits like raising veggies and herbs in pots and chickens in the backyard, tended to result in yet another delicious meal for him. His final conversion was monetary. I learned early on that if I could save him money by doing a project (and I had to have the receipts that proved it to him) it not only made me a better homesteader, it caused him to back me up on my projects more and more often. Hang in there and just start living the good life!
I do what I can, garden, can, grow herbs, but our property was handed down from David's grandparents, and the huge trees with huge roots are staying. That is not negotiable. They shade almost all of the property. I have been given the South side be the street. That's where I garden, compost, and built my garden room. Animals are out... So far.
Do your research. When I had my city homestead we had a lot of full grown trees all around us as well. (Check out my Small City Lot video... th-cam.com/video/8PHJRGWhewc/w-d-xo.html) A lot of veggies can be grown in the shade quite successfully, especially if you use raised bed planters. At my old home I grew my salad crops and especially things like kale, bok choy and Swiss chard around the base of large trees.
Hi! We just got some Rio Poults ourself and I’m researching everyone’s coops before we start ours. Glad I found your channel! Nice To Meet You!
Certainly! It is wonderful to meet you as well. Keep in touch!
That cattle panel seems like handy stuff. Janice
It definitely is!
