    While I don't mind the movie the book is a lot better, it's more cerebral, a lot more violent and depraved and you get into Todd's head a lot more, he is far more disturbed sadistic and evil in the book to the point you nearly feel sympathy for a Nazi war criminal, the ending in the book is totally different as well, I do wish that Johnathan Brandis had played Todd instead of Renfroe, sadly both young actors died too soon, if they had made this film about 15 years ago I think Caleb Landry Jones could of played Todd brilliantly, after seeing his intense slow burn performance in a film called Nitram based on the true story of Tasmania mass shooter Martin Bryant

    • @rijpmajohan
      @rijpmajohan ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The book offers more horror and obviously more psychological insight but it's very unrealistic and tied together with a string of weird and unnecessary coincidences. I think the movie actually solved many flaws that the book has and made the story a lot more convincing. In the book Todd is described to be 13(!) while at the same time acting way too confident, smart and mature for his age. Todd is dominating all the conversations from the start and then randomly starts killing a whole bunch of homeless people without any immediate consequences.
      I enjoyed both the book and the movie but I think this is a rare case where the screenplay is actually better than the book in many ways.

    When a good book has been written, your imagination is triggered and projections become "sensual"(not sexual, not the same thing as some people think), and time expands since the actual reading demands it and you can always "pace" yourself and indulge in a particular scenario(s)...now, according to research, the average attention span of an adult person is about an hour and thirty minutes(it was longer before when "Cinema" barely took off) so, when i watch a Film whether is based on a book or an original screenplay, i always think about what one of my Film production teachers at Chapman College(OC), said to us about Montage: you are compressing time with images...that is another reason why, "Gothic" painting defined "Motion pictures"...perspective as symbolic form, Euclidean space, Semiotics, Archetypes, etc...one single image can carry a whole movie...literature and Film are two different mediums, and the natural "progression" after the written word is an image...film complements "Grammar"...The book, is always going to be "better"...

    There is two small errors in the part.
    The Israeli man said, "You can expect to be in Jerusalem by the end of the summer."
    Dussander would have been extradited to Germany, not Israel. Yes, Adolf Eichmann was tried in Israel, but he was kidnapped in Argentina and smuggled out of the country. Even if Dussander had been sent to Israel, he would have been tried in Tev Aviv.
    Still, the thoroughness of the newspaper article, even if it was on the screen for less than a minute, is a great attention to detail.
