She's so brilliant, I totally sat there in the movie theater thinking "how come I never saw her before, when she's this good? maybe she does mostly stage work..."
Her Philly accent had me convinced she was American. Then I saw her name in the credits: "Toni Collette," and realized she was the Australian actress who was so great in Muriel's Wedding. She looked and acted so different I didn't even recognize her from the previous time I'd seen her in a film.
    That's good acting.

Well, dude, when I was a little kid (like two or three years old) I had two 'imaginary' friends, Martha and John. Apparently I drove my parents nuts because I would insist they were real and couldn't understand why no one else could see them. The thing is, I can actually REMEMBER them; Martha was a girl of seven or eight and used to wear an old-fashioned print dress. John was a bit older, perhaps ten, and had brown pants held up with braces. I wasn't scared - as far as I was concerned they were just two additional playmates. I don't recall exactly when I stopped seeing them - I got older and the world intruded, and one day I realised I hadn't seen Martha and John for a while.

@@ramaarafat4608 Honestly, they weren't creepy. They looked as solid as you or I, and I never had the impression that they meant any harm - the only difference was that nobody else could see them, but kids being kids, I didn't worry about that aspect of it too much and just enjoyed my playmates.

Actually, it is one of those films that people can enjoy watching multiple times. It's not the twist that makes this film work, but all the details leading up to it. That's why this film works as a double narrative, because once you see the film before being exposed to the twist, and then see it again after knowing what the twist is, all the details leading up to the ending still make sense. Also, the film's not entirely focused on one tone or perspective, allowing different genres to blend in.
