    Love how black windows came back into style lol. My house is from the 70s and windows from 70s and 80s, with near-black alu frames. They were considered dated in colour, but now are cool again (and so I just swapped in new dual pane glass inserts to freshen up)

    Love it. I just built a home and it’s grey painted brick. I love it but think the windows should have been black to match the door. I think this is just what it needs. I know you said maybe not on a new window but I truly believe it will definitely give my new home a pop and curb appeal. We’re in Texas so I’m hoping the tape will hold up. Thanks.

    Hi Greg. I want to paint my interior kitchen windows and I love the fact that there is a solution for the grids. I am concerned about painting the latches but we never use them anyway. Would it be ok to do that? Also I am going to have to hand paint because of the way my kitchen windows are configured - Its an old house.. Tips please.

    • @MRGREGSHOWTO
      @MRGREGSHOWTO  ปีที่แล้ว

      Howdy partner! You can paint the latches, but if you have to open them beware that any tight scraping could mess up the paint. If you aren’t using them, you should be fine. Hand painting will be tough but should work. Long single brush strokes. Or tape very well and use very light coats of spray. Best of luck!

    GREAT VIDEO. Just what I was looking for. I am doing this same project on the back of my house with metal windows. 6 of them. I am using now this technic to mask off my windows. I am using the same set up as a template masking, paint to save paper and money, take off masking to another window. I have 5 the same size. Oh a tip for you. Get you a Rust-Oleum 241526 Comfort Grip for spray paint cans, makes it real easy to paint without getting paint on your hands. I am 68 year old woman and the can spray makes my hand hurt. Good job!@
    THE BLACK electrical tape is GENIUS. Since mine back windows are dark brown and not updated like the beige in front, I chose to just paint them again in dark brown because of the grid.

    • @MRGREGSHOWTO
      @MRGREGSHOWTO  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey partner! I have heard that black paint on vinyl windows can cause warping, but no idea if that’s true. I would probably test on one window before I tried on all. DTM acrylic is for metal, so you’ll have to find a paint that does well with vinyl. Good luck!

    This is great! I’m excited to try.. I know this will vary but how many tape roll did you need for your home? I have about 8 mid size windows.. about how many rolls would you recommend? Also which finish did you prefer, the high gloss or semi gloss?

    • @MRGREGSHOWTO
      @MRGREGSHOWTO  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks, partner! I think you would probably be able to get it done with about 3 rolls, depending on window size. The semi gloss is nice, but high gloss has more pop. Really up to you. I like semi gloss slightly more. Best of luck and thanks for watching!

    • @MRGREGSHOWTO

      Thanks, partner! The tape would certainly work indoors. I have not tried painting the tape, but that may be doable. If you choose to try, check out our video on how to mask French doors (could make it easier). They do sell electrical tape in other colors, so you may be able to find gray. That would certainly look sharp! Best of luck to you and thanks for watching!

    • @tinalajoy3290
      @tinalajoy3290 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You may can buy a durable tape near the gray color you are trying to match. I know my teenaged son used some gray duck tape he paid a few dollars for to repair his driverside window on his vehicle and the same tape has been holding it on for 6 years thru college graduation in hot Texas with no issues even though the car is rarely parked in covered parking. So it is durable and comes in narrow sizes bought from Walmart. Never has been replaced.

    • @MRGREGSHOWTO
      @MRGREGSHOWTO  หลายเดือนก่อน

    Could I use brush methods for the interior frame, as opposed to spray? I sprayed one of our windows and nearly fainted. Paint went everywhere and the house was consumed with toxic fumes. Will not repeat indoors! What type of paint could I use with foam rollers & fine bristle brushes for the interior (on an aluminum frame)? Any primer you'd recommend? Thanks!

    • @MRGREGSHOWTO
      @MRGREGSHOWTO  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yikes, partner! Sounds like a bad situation. I would recommend a DTM Acrylic Paint (direct-to-metal). Should not require priming. Just take your time and do your best to prevent the brush strokes. Spraying is the smoothest, but it can be difficult indoors. Please let us know how it turns out!

    • @MRGREGSHOWTO
      @MRGREGSHOWTO  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Howdy, partner! My windows are aluminum and we used a mix of standard spray paint and DTM (direct to metal) acrylic. For vinyl, they do sell varieties that have low-heat pigments that don’t run the risk of warping the vinyl because they reflect the heat rather than absorb.

      @@MRGREGSHOWTO it actually turned out great. It was a nice smooth finish. I sprayed it about 8 or so inches back and put on two coats. It looks really good. Some people are way too critical. This is a very inexpensive way to update an older home. He's only doing the exterior so I'm sure it looks fine unless you are within a few feet. If you don't like how it looks, remove the tape and go a different route. I am looking to paint the interior so I don't think Scotch electrical tape is going to do the trick. Maybe get some flat aluminum bars cut to the correct size and spray paint to match. Seems like any adhesive would be hidden by the muntins on the other side and minimal gaps could be filled. I'd love any other suggestions. There's a site called New Panes Creations but it looks a little pricey to do for a lot of windows.

    • @kimberlyowens8435

      Well it's black to. So there is no sense on making it look like a showroom finish by sanding all the old paint off, priming it and using a paint sprayer when it's just going to fade in 5 years and you'll have to do it all over again anyhow on the outside.
