- This is Johnny Hiland with Sammy at Tahoe Wabo Grand Opening. Johnny can play almost any genre really well. Here he is chicken picking some hard rock and roll.
He plays country on our last Jennifer Brantley CD "Breakdown" One song titled "Sound of Lonely" really stands out and also features Sonny Garrish on steel. It's on itunes if you care to check it out. He also played on Hank 3's last CD too - เพลง
Johnny's one of , if not THE most versatile guitarists around! he can literally play any style, and play it WELL.

I've seen Sammy with Montrose, Van Halen and now Johnny Hiland who plays clubs around town and blows away everyone with his virtuosity. Sammy has one of the best voices in rock and kept the energy levels high. Few rockers age well.

johnny is from the town i live in..as kids we all jammed together and i've had the pleasure of doing a show with him as well.. johnny is beyond gifted and plays damn good for someone who is legally blind !!! ROCK ON MAN, COME HOME SOON !!!

I love the way Johnny Hiland intertwine's hybrid chicken picking lick's , country pedal steel licks with EVH type hammer on's and a few blues lines also in the mix, a signature of a awesome guitar player who has developed his own unique style, he has a lot of tricks up his sleeve !
I have never heard ANYONE get that kind of tone out of a Tele. This guy is absolutely amazing!

What’s amazing with Johnny is he always plays the right part and it’s always musical. And the tone he’s getting here from a Gatton-style Tele proves that a lot of the sound is in the fingers. The stuff he’s doing with harmonics here should make Zakk Wylde go back into the woodshed. What a beast of a player Johnny is, we’re so lucky to have him. Great guy too, so nice. Shout out to Sammy, too, an underrated talent.

Johnny is so versatile.
Im sure that a lot of guys who live in the country domain can rip some heavy rock all to hell, but for whatever reason you just don't see it much.
What stands out about Johnny in particular is he is so fluid in every style he chooses to play. incredible speed and always in the context of the song. He doesn't fly through notes when it isn't appropriate. He doesn't step on vocals. He is always in the tune.
More at a player level, he swaps between chicken and flat so effortlessly, I have to watch his right hand to actually know when he does it. There is very little tonal difference when he doesn't want that difference to be obvious.
Ive commented on several other videos of him and one of the things I cant forget to point out is what a genuinely nice guy he is. He is humble, honest, and he will strap on a guitar with just about anyone who wants to jam... not that I'd necessarily want to play along side him and feel like a student again. lol
But any youngsters out there watching this, just know that he spent countless hours and days learning by replaying song parts over and over until he got it right. Translated, that means he is basically self taught but learned from the best.
Personally, he inspires me to practice. Thanks for that Johnny.
This is the Future right here! I have to admit, I thought Johnny always sounded "fake" when he played rock, but this video proves me dead wrong. Whats can I say, this guy is truly awsome! Sammy just rocks too, to me he ranks up there with Dio and Bruce Dickenson.

I got a chance to meet Johnny at his mothers house a few years ago. He is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and one of the best guitarists I have ever heard.
Just proves you don't need a "Frankenstein" guitar to rock hard. Just talent! A simple Telecaster will do just fine, thank you!
