I know I'm in the vast minority, but I actually miss the old artery. I remember being a little girl and wanting to live in one of the properties that overlooked the highway lol I know it sounds weird, but I'm sort of bummed that I'll never have the chance to live in one. Plus, at least you had sunshine and beautiful buildings to look at when you were stuck in traffic; sure beats a tunnel.
After watching this I actually miss driving on the old upper deck. Now everything is underground and you can't see the city anymore and it did not do anything special for relieving traffic. But I do remember the traffic jams as soon as you hit the old Boston Gardens at the Storrow Drive exit. But at least you could see the city. My father told me he found entire complete houses while working operating an excavator. I made more money on prevailing wage jobs for federal funded jobs on federal property like the Air Force base. Remember the building with the light on top that would change from red or blue if there was going to be a storm, on top of the building that took longer than the Big Dig to complete. Anyone remember that?
I returned to Buffalo from Boston to get back to college; that Sat. Morning saw me with my kid brother driving back the 450 miles. On the elevated 93, I did 60-65 MPH with little to no other traffic in sight. No ticket either.
Hi Joe, I'm making a documentary on the Big Dig and I was wondering if I can use some of your footage in my show. Would you get in touch with me at kaylee.soh@britesparkfilms.com Thanks, K

Yeah the artery was a lot better than the garden that was planted in its place.

Good riddance to a big ugly unmaintained mistake that cut off one part of the city from the rest!
