    Being the person who “opens” a restaurant or any business is an empowering feeling! It allows you to set the pace and tone for those who show up later.

    She’s relaxed while she’s working as a barista because first of all she’s doing the opening shift and no one is there and secondly because she works at a small cafe. If you want to work as a barista but be in a rather low stress environment I do NOT recommend working at a place like Starbucks or other big commercial coffee places because those stores are focused on quick and somewhat easy service which means as a worker you will be stressed and busy as heck. If you want this ideal portrayal of a chill barista environment then I suggest you apply at a small local cafe or small chain cafe place. Of course there are other things that you can factor in that determines the stress level of being a barista but this is all just my opinion.

      But for someone who is starting to be a barista, working in a high stress environment is a good practice and training so working at Starbucks is ideal. When you're well adapted to your job and know it well, then you can apply somewhere less stressful.

    As an opening supervisor at Starbucks, I am so jealous. I wish I was able to take my time with opening but there always tend to be a million of miscellaneous tasks to get done on top of brewing coffees, teas, prepping the bars, etc. Although I do try to sneak in some time for my daily flat white before opening the doors :)

    • @PikaBloom

    • @socerfan15
      @socerfan15 4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Honestly same. I manage a Peet's coffee kiosk inside a grocery store and in my experience working in a kiosk is so much worse than working in a stand-alone coffee shop. I only get 30 mins to open and then we have customers walking in a few minutes before we're actually supposed to be open (which frustrates me to know because I really need those last few minutes). I have no time to clean, dial in the espresso shots, calibrate the thermometers, etc so those first customers are getting crappy drinks. Honestly most days we never get around to doing this and with the cut in payroll it's been months since we've done any of this.

    • @PikaBloom
      @PikaBloom 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@Brujadel89 If I may speak honestly, I work at Starbucks not as a career nor do I categorize myself as a coffee drinker. So if I'm practicing, I'm practicing to Starbucks standards (unfortunately) because that is what I'm being judged on as my current job. Very rarely do I work with or serve anyone who actually KNOWS their coffee. I only have one customer who orders an actual macchiato, otherwise I usually have people asking me the difference between a latte, cappuccino, and a frappuccino on the daily.

    Having been laid off back in March this really makes me realize how much I miss being a barista and, more specifically, opening shifts. Something romantic about having the entire shop to yourself and dialing in everything while you listen to the perfect early morning playlist. Super rad tulip btw. The most stacks I ever got was 7 or 8.

    Omg I love this! My boyfriend told me to watch this video because for about 3 years, including now, I’ve been working at Starbucks and I love it. I’m currently going to college and my plans for after is to eventually open up my own coffee shop. I work mornings as well, Monday-Friday at 6:30am. Morning give me so much energy, even though I’m tired, and makes me look forward to the rest of my day. I enjoy my morning tasks before we open up, my Starbucks is actually on campus of my school(St. Mary’s Uni) and I love seeing my regulars and having their coffee ready before they even order, well sometimes. Thanks for sharing this video, truly enjoyed it💕

    Pro-tip on restocking: Replace shelved / racked products back to front, not front to back. That way the oldest product gets moved to the front and is not just hanging around. I'm sure your work has some rule about when everything should be completely replaced, but this will at least decrease the chances that your customers will draw the short straw on a busy day and get much older product than the customers who got the fresh restock earlier in the day.

    Love that she tried the coffee before opening, because I wish every single coffee shop would do that. I drink Panera iced coffee and they have it in the dining room to self serve and it’s so easy to tell if the person making it doesn’t drink coffee makes the drinks and it’s super watery or sour. I now only go to certain locations and avoid the ones that are bad every single time I go.

    I used to be a barista inside the Venetian "Grand Lux Cafe bakery" always very busy, but the manager always had high standards in being clean, neat, organized, and well maintained. Learned so much from him and now that I think about it, I miss being a barista lol
