I agree they aren't comparable in price, but the EN's performance definitely rivals the type R, and is a good bit faster than the price class you mentioned. I think our car just punches above its weight class in terms of price : )
You forgot to compare the Type R shifter to the miata!! I have a 2018 Miata and test drove an Integra A-spec (200 hp) and man... the miata was so much more comfortable. I imagine the Type R's is likely similar o the Integra A-spec... is it?
So….. not objective, idk what the Honda boys are telling you but the truth is…. The Elantra is a way better buy, the Honda is slightly better, but with markups is at least a 20k difference. So if money is no object go with the Honda. But at that price point you could be looking at a bmw m2. So imo the Honda makes no sense
@lukemothug , I'd be happy with either. Type R has the edge since I live in FL. There's no snow and perfect roads. If I lived in a snow state, 100% GR.
Sucks about the Type R markups, but they are finally coming down, $5k over seems to be doable now. The Type R is worth every penny more than the Elantra N even at $50K
You nailed it when you said the Honda is in a different class. Not only is Hyundai's styling horrible. It won't last near as long as the Honda. The transmission alone makes it a better car.
@@Jcastro9444 The thing thats sad their new K series is designed well but using really cheap alloy. Its extremely ductile. Any extra force causes it to warp. Its not a $10k price tag difference, it's more like $30k after dealer markups. Civic transmissions have been known to grind second gear so idk where your description of a flawless transmission came from. The Elantra also comes with far superior warrenty than the Civic. Do your research a bit, for your channel's sake...
1. Dealer markups are market and time dependent. Can’t control what the markup will be at the time of the video or 3 years from now… so I can only go by msrp info because that is known. 2 manual trans opinion came from actually driving all that I listed, if you grind your gears, I’d look at your own driving. 3 Hyundai comes with longer warranty for original owner, true, but I make no claim that it is superior or worse than Honda’s in this video.
@@ShiftingLanesWhile it is true that you cant know what the markup will be, but it's almost certain that there will be a significant markup and you've never mentioned that fact when you said the Civic is only $10k more. Yes, you've never mentioned Hyundai's superior warranty, which is another reason why I believe this review was bias and incomplete. Just take it as constructive criticism. You risk alienating a lot of people who don't want to pay stupid prices for a car that's supposed to be in the affordable range.

Stop the Honda fan boy crap. Boycott Honda and their markups. Also Elantra N has beat civic type r in TCR series for years now. Car and Driver 0 to 150 to 0 test the Elantra N beats the civic type r by 5 seconds. Only buy the Civic Type R if you mommy and daddy buy it for you.
Though the Elantra N’s DCT is less engaging than a manual - especially a Civic Type R manual - for an automatic transmission it’s very engaging. The crazy fast shifts, upshift burps and downshift blips, paired with the exhaust pops and crackles, makes driving an absolute blast each and every time. It makes you feel like you’re in a much more expensive car and makes the car feel much quicker than it actually is. And if you want to be more physically engaged, you can throw it in manual mode and use the paddles. It still has the feel of clutch slip and grab, so it’s unlike any traditional automatic. I obviously love it. But if I absolutely had to row my own gears, it’d be hard not to really want the Civic Type R or Integra Type S.

I had a 2022 Elantra N brand new, fresh off the truck, but traded it in at 26k due to reliability issues and Hyundai making it an absolute hassle to actually use the 100k mile warranty and them never giving me a loaner nor a rental, but had my car for 2 weeks each time. I got a 2021 Honda civic type r with 14k miles. I can say that Honda is, more powerful, better build quality(Elantra had creaks and while it looks nice on interior it’s with cheaper materials), surprisingly in comfort mode type r rides smoother and less harsh on bumps then the Elantra N, more trunk room, better sound system quality, but Elantra N has hands down better technology. I can trade loss of better tech and heated seats for better reliability, handling, speed, and quality.
Wait until that tranny goes and it will. Hyundai is not good for honoring warranties either or getting parts 🤣. While a better driver in the civic walks you.
Nice you know how to drive an automatic that’s rated .4 sec faster 0-60 and slower in a quarter mile by 1 second even with the fl5s better downforce and increased drag. Curious to know what you’re “drag race” looks like cuz I’m doubting you’re launching a fwd car stock
Bro is bragging about a standstill drag race in an automatic vs a manual😂. Sure enough both fk8 and fl5 would start to creep up regardless and WILL pass you given they are more powerful. Same concept when your driving on the highway/freeway or normal road conditions since you don’t have to launch the car. On a roll/ in motion driving it will walk you detrimentally again given it’s more powerful and the fact that you don’t need to launch the car. Looking at the price, Honda fan boys better hope that the CTR is better. Imagine what kind of car N can make for 45k lol
They say that the Type - R has a better resale value. If you plan on selling the car then that matters. One more reason for me to keep my 2023 Elantra N.
The ambiguity in me has risen but Elantra n😏😍🤗
You praise the ctr transmission but said nothing about how absolutely flawed the Rev hang is.
TypeR all day long not even close
Unless you have driven both, you can't respond to this question objectively.
@@stefanb974 lol
Driven both, own fl5 and it wins in all categories. By how much, that's up to you. Driving wise it objectively is faster and more fun especially in manual. Elantra N is superior if you keep it stock IMO because you get the warranty and much cheaper. Not much aftermarket like honda unfortunately.@@stefanb974
E N DCT the better car, only the fanboys keep Honda price elevated, E N the future.
@@mrnobodytheuser2950 lol
These are not comparable in price at all so let's stop pretending like they're competitors. I purchased my Elantra N manual for $31k meanwhile Type R is double the cost. Yes you'll be paying about $1200 a month for the civic 😂
These are the vehicles you could compare it to WRX, Si, GTI, ect
I agree they aren't comparable in price, but the EN's performance definitely rivals the type R, and is a good bit faster than the price class you mentioned. I think our car just punches above its weight class in terms of price : )
You forgot to compare the Type R shifter to the miata!! I have a 2018 Miata and test drove an Integra A-spec (200 hp) and man... the miata was so much more comfortable. I imagine the Type R's is likely similar o the Integra A-spec... is it?
Honda has way too much pedigree to ignore.
So….. not objective, idk what the Honda boys are telling you but the truth is…. The Elantra is a way better buy, the Honda is slightly better, but with markups is at least a 20k difference. So if money is no object go with the Honda. But at that price point you could be looking at a bmw m2. So imo the Honda makes no sense
I'll keep my corolla hatchback 6spd and keep dreaming of the type R.
But you don't dream of a gr corolla?
@lukemothug , I'd be happy with either. Type R has the edge since I live in FL. There's no snow and perfect roads. If I lived in a snow state, 100% GR.
Sucks about the Type R markups, but they are finally coming down, $5k over seems to be doable now. The Type R is worth every penny more than the Elantra N even at $50K
At 50K a lightly used Supra or a S650 for not much more will give you much more for your dollar.
@@jasoniviejr.7925 Maybe so, but I hate the “Supra”
Wouldn't say worth every penny more.. you can do a lot with 10-15k in mods that'll create an even better driving machine than the Type R

Video seems biased toward the type r. Points out flaws on the hyundai only to excel at pointing out the type r's advantages.
You nailed it when you said the Honda is in a different class. Not only is Hyundai's styling horrible. It won't last near as long as the Honda. The transmission alone makes it a better car.
It looks so long, not a fan tbh. Who ever call it hatchback is smoking because it's a long family lift back sedan
I mean looks great IDK for a hatchback, looks unique and aggressive, Love it.
Honda or Hyundai, what a decision just wait till that Hyundai blows up!!!
For the difference in price Hyundai could probably throw in another engine.
No wonder I see a lot kia/Hyundai on bed truck than Honda.
At the Elantra price still around 20K difference with the R. You can buy another one!😁😁😁
Lots of Honda fanboys I see 👀
The K20C in the type R is the weakest K series ever made. My friend tuned his and it instantly blew up. Stock its fine but civics are boring stock.
Yup new civic engines are trash, meant to be kept stock unless built. K series if you wanna go fast modded.
Everyone whos actually in the market knows this isnt true so should you. This is the disconnect between car reviewers and actual consumers. I'm just saying know who your audience are. Look into Type R 2nd gear grinding issue, it's widespread amongst Type R owners and Honda has been ignoring them. Yes, you've never mentioned Hyundai's superior warranty, which is another reason why I believe this review was bias and incomplete. Just take it as constructive criticism. You risk alienating a lot of people who don't want to pay stupid prices for a car that's supposed to be in the affordable range.

Yeaaaaa! Im gonna choose A Hyundai over A Honda🙄

There are videos on the TH-cam showing the EN DCT beating both the type r and type s.
@MGN909 please send the links from a proper car journalist that shows its faster in a drag on the same day side by side, show 3....then show 1 link where any Hyundai is faster than the FL5 on a track...I will wait
@@van_der_lindeDAI mean, that is some pretty ridiculous criteria. Anyway… If you want journalist results, just go check out the Car and Driver test results for each car. Type R has a 0-60 time of 4.9s and 1/4 mile time of 13.5s. Elantra N has a 0-60 time of.4.8s and a 1/4 time of 13.4s.
@Symphoniics so a auto is faster than a manual by .1... now show me where its faster on track
@@van_der_lindeDA There’s a Throttlehouse video of a non-octane learned EN 6MT barely losing to the Type R in a drag race. If octane learned, it would’ve been right next to the Type R. Now as far as track driving goes, the Type R will be faster most of the time, but for $10k less, the EN sure makes it quite competitive!

I think it's pretty obvious which one you should buy, I mean, you are comparing a car that cost close to a super msrp with average dealer markup to a car that is the cost of a si after markups. I think the only people buying the civics are truly loyalists.
Also I never modded my Elantra N
And I haft the DCT version
Plenty of EN owners including me had no issues with their cars and I have DCT.
@@Duran762 I can second that. Not a single creak either...

I have an Elantra N DCT and stock im walking Fk8 & FL5 in a drag race, im content with that lol Hyundai ftw
Realistically speaking if the type r came with a DCT there would be no competitor other than the Golf R.
@Ace20001216 th-cam.com/video/ryBld0_KxlE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=grGNhDQo14iw6nVO Elantra N beat your godly type R. It still stands an EN in DCT form is better in every way than the FL5 lol especially if it's octane learned. Drag racing is just a plus faster than that overpriced honda.

The FK8 looked better to me than the new FL5, and I can't choose between the FK8 and the Veloster N. Maybe I prefer more outgoing looks over sleeker looks, but damn I'm loving my Elantra N right now
FL5s are still overheating on track. Atleast the fast ones I've done track days with pull off halfway through a 20 minute session because of oil temps
For all those who can’t afford or can’t get ctr at msrp, i would absolutely consider an elantra n, especially after the facelift for 2024. Host of upgrades for performance and exterior design. Even at msrp it still is 10k difference. I am waiting for ctr at msrp dealer and have the buyers order written coming out to be just shy of 50K out the door. But i was seriously considering switching to elantra n manual after seeing 2024 facelift. I still am while waiting for the ctr to arrive
I picked up my 2024 CTR for msrp on Feb 20th 😅
Nobody in their dam rightful minds ever woke up and said they want a Hyundai, especiallly over a type R. The only argument Hyundai owned have is “it’s cheaper” , “it’s got a longer warranty”..
Ok yes it’s cheaper, but also cheaper all around too and that longer warranty ain’t from the goodness of their hearts lmao unreliable compared to Hondas.
I guess I’m not in my right mind because after having my FK8 for over 3 years I’m wanting a EN in DCT
I love how all these people trying to justify why a cheaper car is better than a car that is objectively better and more expensive. Everyone talking about 0-150-0 test and how civic is slower lol. Both are track cars, not drag cars, if you’re taking an Elantra N FWD as a competitive drag race car I question you. Going by the 0-150-0 test, the gt3 rs must be a worse car than turbo s and a z06 and god forbid more expensive than both. Both the Elantra N and type r must be worse than a Kia EV6. We get it you’re happy with your car, don’t be overcompensating with all this “oh I walk type Rs all day in a stock N”
E N just more bang for your buck, het at least Civic will probably hold better resale thnx to fan boys.
But the thing is as an EN owner myself. For the price the type-R should clearly be better but the fact that it’s not and it’s only marginally better. But hey you do you, whether you or any of the other Type-R fanboys feel or think I have pulled on FK8’s and FL5’s in a straight line. So why don’t you justify the type R being 8-12k more?
