13:19 "Navigator to captain Taff. Err... yeah, thanks for your help, i will keep a lookout for that water going that way, you've been a great help, Navigator out"
I have such fond memories of playing this game as a teen in the early 2000's that I'll easily forgive the "rough" look to the game that everyone seems to be complaining about. It'll be really nice to see the updated plane model that they've been teasing though!
FOR YEARS,,,,,,I wanted to play this game but I was hooked on European Air War which had the same sim level gameplay but in a fighter setting. You would escort bombers and run other missions. Fond memories of me limping a fighter back to base with oil pressure dropping. The level of realism back then was next level. The amount of time it took to reach a target was no joke. Missions would take an hour in some cases. I miss those days. I'm not developing a game like B17 but maybe when I am done with my game NTL (videos under channel) I'll start working on a modern B-17 with modern graphics and gameplay mechanics. What a dream that would be
MicroProse already is working on a modern one, B-17 Flying Fortress The Bloody 100th. I believe their using the redux to get familiar with the engine and how to work on bloody 100th and future titles better. If you wanted to go this route you could work on the pacific theater, B-29: Bomber Command XX/XXI?
@@wolfydude12or ....and here is a radical idea ...how about not a yank plane for once Christ im fairly sure a Wellington aint been done before Anyone would think the USA and Germany were the only 2 nations in this war for the amount of love anyone else gets 😂 Hell i would take playing as a Betty or Kate at this point
25:20 Misbehavin' Crew? Misbehavin' Game! Maybe that's the game's way of saying your B-17 blew up over England, and you are now forever circling the airfield, waiting for permission to land.
I notice you have been reducing your altitude to avoid flak in several episodes of the series. For what it is worth, a rule of thumb flight crews used was for every 5,000 foot increase in altitude, flak effectiveness decreased by half. I don’t know if that is modeled in the game, but it might be worth thinking about!
Ha, ha, ha, ... I thought the navigator was secretly drinking alcohol, but after this episode I think it must be very tough and strong measures. I don't know if it would be better to hang a towel on the navigator's seat. And send the navigator to Earth with a kick so that he can learn to navigate in the field at an accelerated pace.
Great episode taff, any problems with the game is likely down to early days with development.. but regardless it's still going to be sorted and developed in one way or another. Anyway leaving any issues to one side that was a great flight, was able to hit both targets on two separate attempts. Yeah bugs might be a bit frequent for now but anyway.. that was a great amount of work done on different targets, bombing accuracy is better so the fledgling crew is earning their kills and reputation. Got some more air kills and got medals awarded, so.. leaving the glitches to one side, great episode anyway. Be it oil or factories, none will escape destruction, thanks for another great episode, looking forward to the next. Have a nice night mate and thanks again.
@@prinzalbatross9526 Never thought about it that way, wasn't intended to be a joke. Honest.. I suppose it was just be being hopeful that the glitches with something new will be overcome quickly.
@@joeaustin4472 I only ask because the game is more than 20 years old. From what I've read the redux only covers cosmetic, interface, control updates to make the game look and run better on modern PCs. I can't imagine the devs are doing much with the code or AI.
@@prinzalbatross9526 Is that right? I don't have this game and I tend to get mixed information in regards of the classics, always considering getting it but always get side tracked. I knew this game was old but I didn't know it was over 20, I was under the impression it was around 10 or so, didn't know it was that old. Didn't know about the scale of how far the remastering went either, thanks for letting me know about that.. got a much clear picture.
I don't know about a pathfinder plane, but every bomber up there has their own navigator so they certainly would know they were off course. The problem is that Taff doesn't visit the navigator station to periodically sort things out.
I just hope the newest B-17 game coming out from MicroProse will have multiplayer. Maybe, they can even feature the Earlier B-17 without the front lower dual 50. Cal chin turret.
Am I right to think that you can fine tune the drift while on the bombsight screen? Im sure I used to use the vertical line of the sight to do it as I found it easier than adjusting thw sight from the interior screen
Statistically, the ball turret gunner was the least likely to be wounded or killed as the ball had some modicum of armored protection. The waist gunners were the most likely to suffer.
Unless the turret hydraulics failed so they couldnt bail out they were pretty secure But its still a dangerous position to fight from since most fighters are likely to attack from below and if you have to make a belly landing its a bummer to be in that spot
Love this series taff! I'm looking forward to picking this game up once it's out of early access. One question though, are you not able to adjust the flight path in the pre-mission briefing?
I haven't played this since its first release, but I wonder if the navigator getting lost isn't caused by changing the route to the bomb target and the waypoints?
Nah, the game has always just assumed every navigator is blind and stupid. I've seen navigators get "lost" while still over England heading outbound. It's a video game being a video game and giving the player something to do.
Misbehavin's navigator is certainly living up to his aircraft's nickname: How did he pass out as a qualified navigator? He couldn't navigate his way out of a polythene bag on the evidence of his performance so far. That's five missions down and he's got lost on four of them! On the first iteration of this mission, it beats me how that starboard wing didn't fold; there was more hole than wing outside No.4 engine. The game itself ... well, it's clear it has a long way to go before it's worth buying.
Just a quick one Taff, have you thought about targeting the leading edge of the target rather than the centre as the first bomb seem to hit where aimed the rest follow on??
I've bitten my lips and tongue about this up to this point. But that navigator couldn't find his asshole through a wet paper bag with both hands and a signal flare.
Taff, question!! Why do you almost always, line up your bomb run across the target, instead of along the Long alignment of targets?? Just wondering is all! Been following you for many years and totally enjoy you game play style and commentary!! From SOMA, The Long Dark (all versions), Fire Watch (Awesome ) by the way, SH all, IV, V and your flight Sims, WWI, WW2! So Thank you for many many hours of enjoyment and Wonder!! Please don't stop!! 1🐸
The game really must have wanted to be certain the crew had a couple of fifth missions? 😏 Lt McNaight is our pilot so that is something to make it home.
What I found when I played the original might 8th,20+ yrs ago,is you need to print out the manual and keep it beside you . Once you get shot down a few to many times, the learning curve kicks in😊
What I plan on doing is reading through the manual, and then do the training missions one at a time, repeating as often as needed to become proficient with each one. That might take a while, especially the landing training...
Your navigator and bombadier do not appear to appreciate all that fiddling with the flight plan. Haphazard waypoints confuse navigators, and messing with IPs confuses bombadiers. Perhaps the changes to the game punish that kind of foolery.
Loving the fact that the reviews keep tanking. Not only have they not fixed the age old bugs that have been present for well over a two decades, they've now introduced many more. What a complete joke by Microprose releasing this pile so as just to coincide with AppleTV's utterly mediocre MotA adaptation. And lets be honest, especially if you've read the book, the TV series is mid as f#$k.
I love these b17 series but I really wish you’d stop buggering around with the waypoints 😄. I want to see all the flak and fighters. 20 odd years ago when I had this game I used to engineer suicidal missions to Berlin at low level. Good times
At this point, I'd not be surprised if the navigator finds himself in a parachute if he keeps getting lost that badly.
😂 the crew will trow navigator to the german if he make the group always lose
Finds that if he needs to bail, the others have cut the strings
"Make sure you've got your flak jackets on boys."
Not you, Navigator.
Once the aircraft models and terrain gets a bit of love, this will look decent.
That's the understatement of the century.

Funny. The guy in the briefing room..."EZ goin" has enough mission s to go home.
At 16:16 the formation is over a large body of water...and being engaged by heavy flak. I wonder where the floating flak batteries were.
must have been a bunch of those hilarious quad 8.8cm river vessels WT has for Germany's coastal fleet lol
yeah boning the right angle is superior, definitely should try at the edge since the bombs always go very long
There is a dial to adjust the milisecond delay between bombdrops, he tweaked it in one of the earlier missions, turned it waaay down.
