Xenoblade 2 was my first Xeno series game. I think it ruined me, because as much as I love the other games, this one is my favorite. Rex is unironically one of my favorite characters. He's just so wholesome, but he also knows when he needs to actually be serious.
"2 million sales are still a lot, but there´s so many mediocre switch games that sold much more" Me who loves Xenoblade 2 and Fire emblem three houses: HE FUCKING SAID IT, FINALLY SOMEBODY SAID IT
The ending of XC2 made me, at the time a 30 year old man, ugly cry!!! All the buildup, the high stakes, the emotions we were on through the journey hit during the finale like a meteor!!! Xenoblade jumped to my all time favorite JRPG series, above me being a lifelong Final Fantasy fan after beating XC2 and getting most of the way though XCDE. All the pieces fit together to make a 110% compelling experience that has loads of quality content to sink your teeth into, no matter which entry you play
I've honestly never played any other game that had the same kind of emotional impact that XC2 had and it really sneaks up on you. The fact that it has the same impact on everyone that plays it really is a testament to how fantastic it is. When I told my friend that I had just finished the game her exact words were, "oooof.. you need a box of tissues?"
I think Xenoblade is one of those series like Pokemon where people have a soft spot when it comes to what series they started first. My first game in Xenoblade is 3 and I'm currently on chapter 4. I can safely say that the Cinama and Story telling in this game makes it a masterpiece!
@@xanderscut in fact, your review has inspired me to write my own review of the game. Think of it like those "reviews" by Captain Astronaut except it's positive and I actually pay attention to the story.
@@jackleveille9319 to be fair I don't think captain astronaut ever meant for that to be a review. He always made it clear it was purely his opinion. And it was done humorously, as most things on his channel are. I enjoy xbc2 alot, but I can agree with him, or see where he's coming from on the majority of things he said (though some things were a little exaggerated, probably to make it funnier)
@@somebodyyoudontknow3980 But his word choice makes it seem like what he says is objective. He just said it was his opinion so that he can try to stave off criticism. And in the review that I'm making, I will be debunking quite a lot of his points like how bullshit the argument of win in the fight, lose in the cutscene is.
I honestly encourage Monolith to try and top Xenoblade Chronicles 2, because if they did, that would be a truly amazing game to be able to top this masterpiece. In my opinion, this is far and away the best rpg on the switch. Of course, I am biased as this is my favorite game, period.
You’re letting the vocal minority get to you. For haters, there’s only BeatEmUps, Captain Astronaut and.. well.. that’s about it. But then there’s Enel, Luxin, LXGK, Chuggaaconroy, BlunZ, this guy, and many many more. Most people love this game and those who don’t are just loud as heck.
Man I absolutely love Xenoblade 2, the characters are so beautifully written I just love them so much, the music is insanely amazing and once the story got going I couldn't stop playing until I finally beat it, I almost cried when I finished the game not just because I was sad but because how much I love this game and how amazing it felt to finally finish it...
It's my absolute all time favourite game, and I'm so glad that more people are trying it out. I hadn't even heard of it until chuggaaconroy started playing. I immediately fell in love with it and bought it straight after the first video, and I've put more hours in than almost any other game I've ever played
That’s great to hear. This is all time favorite game as well, like you I’ve sunk countless hours into this masterpiece, and every playthrough it never gets old. Thanks for the comment!
I love Exploration (2nd battletheme), Zeke's theme, Tantal day, Roaming the Wastes, You will remember our names (DLC with Shulk/Fiora) and The title piano-theme the most. Everytime I start or exit the game I listen to that shit for at least 1 loop XD. Also all boss themes and the theme at the world tree are awsome too.
I understand why people who played Xenoblade 1 first hate on this game because they found Rex cringe, but he's 15 my dude, of course he's gonna be a bit cringe sometimes. XC2 got me through an extremely traumatic childhood and helped me bond with my troubled sister, so it's incredibly special to me. It has such a beautiful world that you can get lost in and loveable characters you could get so attached to they'd feel like your friends. My sister and I would (and still do sometimes) talk about this game for hours. We would take turns on the switch playing it pretty much every day for a solid year, and it gave us something to look forward to each day. The portrayal of resolve and carrying on even when it feels like all is lost is beautiful and I think it may have helped save me back then, as a lost and lonely kid. I don't think I would have made it through so much pain if it wasn't for this game. Thank you, Monolithsoft.
This is very sweet and wholesome. I feel like you and your sis should exchange a Morag and Emperor Niall plushie, kind of representative of the experience for you 2, eh? Glad the game brought you so much peace and joy.
Finally, somehow who actually speaks the truth of this game rather than all those stupid reviews that have no idea what their talking about, this is truly one of the best games on switch and one of the best RPG’s ever
I literally have the same Xenoblade story as you do. I knew who Shulk was, but I didn’t care about Xenoblade. But I tried it out and I fell in love with it. I was worried because I heard many people bashing 2, but I tried it and I liked it even more than the first one. Xenoblade 2 is my favorite game of all time. I have a video just like this on my channel if you’re interested.
Thanks for the review! Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the best RPG(or at lest JRPG) that I've played. I'm so touched by the story especially the ending as well as the music that sometimes I still I feel I'm in that world after finishing playing for one week.
I agree! I love this game and I believe it deserves more love. In my opinion, the reason it’s not as talked about is because people exaggerate the game’s mistakes way too much. Sure, it’s not perfect, it definitely isn’t, but it makes the great things lose their value. I only recently got into xenoblade, mainly from the smash reveal, but after finishing XC2, I can confidently say I love the series. (And yes I’ve played XC1, I loved it as well).
I can relate so much of what you just said. Xenoblade 2 is such a great experience, and it’s such a shame that so many people haven’t experienced for themselves because of its flaws being exaggerated. I wanted to make this video to show people the positive, and more realistic side of the game, so that they could possibly experience that spectacular adventure I did for themselves.
It’s so nice to see a good review for this as I think this it’s probably my favorite game of all time, I loved it so much and I think I might just go play it again after watching this.
This is one of my favorite JRPGs, this is the kind that takes you back to the PS 1 RPG era where you are completely hooked and can't stop playing. I love this game so much that I stopped playing it before the final boss battle because I don't want the story to end. Maybe if they get Xenoblade X ported to switch, I will finally complete this game.
Likewise my guy! Although I highly recommend you finish it, the ending is one of my favorites. I’m replaying it again to experience the story once more.
@@cyrrus_lite2796 yeah, I finished it a couple of months ago when they announced Xenoblade 3. Im gonna get Torna this week and try to finish it just in time for XC3.
literally was watching a random streamer, he mentioned xenoblades name like ONCE, so i thought “huh, maybe i should check it out”, bought it on the spot without hesitation. Best purchase EVER
Great video! You did a great job of explaining most to what there is to this game without giving spoilers, makes me want to play it again for the 1,000th time ;v;
This is a great video, man! I agree a lot with the points here, and it’s nice hearing someone talk about it who gives it the respect it truly deserves. I had no idea how much I’d love this game upon getting into it my first time, and I still find myself looking back on it, after finishing it months ago. And thank you for bringing justice for my boy Rex. He deserves better than he gets.
The one game that does make me cry. Literal tears. Absolute masterpiece, hits right in the feels, takes you to states of emotion you werent even aware existed at all...thats the highest point of any work of art, when it truly and deeply emotions you.
Finally. Someone who played the game for more than 5 to 10 hours and actually understands how great this game is. I played it a total of 5 times (3 beeing new game+ runs) and everytime my friends who couldn't get past chapter 3 tell me how boring, etc this game is I get a goddamn seizure. Especially with the DLC the game got so much more fun again adding lots of endgame content and crazy accesoiries. At Trust rank S+ and with top tier equipment you can just walk through the world and shredd everything into tiny pieces with a single special/chain attack. Besides the dmg cap the game really doesn't hinder you at getting as busted as possible (looking at you Poppi QTpi and Fiora lol). That's the exact reason why I love Risk of Rain 2 so much now. The devs don't give a shit how broken the game is, that's what makes it fun. You wanna have 10 bejillion attack speed? go ahead! You want every single of your attacks to emit a huge explosion covering the whole map? yes. You want to have zero cooldowns and become literally invincible unless you forget to press the ult-button? Absolutely possible. I love that in games.
Can you really blame them though? The first 5 chapters are extremely slow and boring, you shouldn't have to force yourself to play 30+ hours before it "gets good", that's just bad game design. What *should* give you a seizure is the game's pacing, not your friends falling prey to the game.
@@halosaft I've recently been playing the definitive edition of XC1 and that game is wayyyy slower in my opinion. I am good 20h into the game and I never really want to pick it up again because the gameplay feels rather boring to me. Apparently the story is really good (which is the main reason I still play it) but besides the very first 90 minutes it hasn't really intrigued me all that much. XC2 has a much more entertaining combat system that carried the game through the couple slower parts of the game and the story also gripped me a lot sooner. Everyone can have there own opinions but I personally never felt like any of the begining chapters where excessively slow or boring. As soon as you accept Bana's mission the game takes off until thestart of chapter 4. After that the only "slow" parts for me would be the end of chapter 5 and the start of chapter 6 which are admittedly a little boring to some end. And then maybe chapter 7 (altough I liked that one a lot). I completely agree that a slow start is bad for a game and from a game-design and storytelling perspective, I just didn't perceive XC2's story as slow.
@@ze_darku_magician5504 Well, when I said slow I was talking about the story, not combat. I actually like the combat in XC2, although I felt it missed a lot of things that made me like XC1 combat, but it seems like XC3 will take the parts from XC1 combat I missed while also keeping the parts from XC2 combat I liked. So I think XC3 combat will be my favourite. It does come down to opinion and what you look for in a medium, but to me there was really nothing to hook me in. And the bad writing and voice direction didn't help at all. The times I started to feel something and might have gotten hooked in, got ruined by Rex shouting and I just got annoyed instead. Or Akhos and Malos cringey lines... I guess the fact that the main villains got used as tutorial dummies to defeat also made them extremely less threatening and interesting. Compare that to how Metal Face was used as a tutorial dummy in the beginning to *not* defeat. You could barely do any damage to him in game. He was introduced as a real threat to you as a player. And he wasn't even the main villain like Malos was. Not to mention how he kills one of your friend and kickstarts the whole reason for the journey. The reason for the journey in XC2 to get to Elysium is basically just curiosity. Which is fine and like I said, depends on what you look for. But for me that wasn't the most interesting of hooks to a story. And I can understand if a lot of other people don't get grabbed by it either until halfway through the game. XC3 seems to bring back the whole war theme and urgency, so I hope it'll have a strong hook for me like XC1 though.
Coming back to this like almost 3 years later is weird but tbh my opinion hasn't changed all that much. I still love the game dearly. I've since replayed it again and I can now definitely see how people would really hate the first 4 chapters in some ways. It never bothered me before but when playing the game in a "would my friends enjoy this as much as I did 3 years ago if they played it now" mindset I can see the games flaws a lot clearer. This game is also the reason why at least 2 of my friends haven't given the series another chance ever since. Honestly I can't blame them too much. I'm pretty sure they'd have a lot more respect for Xenoblade as a whole if they tried XC3 as their first game. Still I firmly believe that chapters 1 & 3 are sufficient in hooking players and keeping them engaged until chapter 5 after which everything goes insane. If they haven't had anything better to do they might have pushed through and experienced just how awsome this game truly is. I'm still underway trying to convince them to give XC3 a fair chance and I will not yield until I have exhausted every possibility and every last bit of their patience. They will play it. Eventually. (Hopefully).
I couldn't believe how gorgeous the settings looked. I've never seen another game like this. The cut scenes are so long, but they're basically short movies and great anime gight scenes. I am so stoked for 3.
Always always ALWAYS happy to see XC2 validation! It’s such a brilliant and emotional game that really rewards the player for what they put into it, and just about anyone who has faith and gives the game a chance will find something to love in it. Shoutout to my boy Rex! Such an earnest and down to earth character who develops fantastic and inspiring conviction.
I randomly found this in my recommendations and this is a fantastic video. While there is definitely more depth to uncover in this game, for a nonspoiler video, it did a fantastic job at explaining the core strengths of the game. I honestly kinda wanna replay it now lol
Haha glad the algorithm’s working in my favor, thank you! So glad you could find my video, definitely plan to do a spoilery video in the future on everything there is to appreciate because like you said, there is so much depth to this game. Thanks for the comment!
A great video demonstrating just how amazing this game and keeping the video length digestible. As a fan I love the long videos but I’m sure people who haven’t played the games wouldn’t wanna watch something more than like, half an hour. Really good! Also I love that you snuck a piece of the Smash trailer in haha
I vastly prefer the English voices to the Japanese voices, and it's not because I can only understand one language. I don't like the announcer (MAGNIFICENT!), I don't think Pyra and Nia's Japanese voices fit them at all, and all the Nopon sound like squeaky toys. Plus, since my monolingual self can only understand English, I actually get to watch the cutscenes instead of having to be focused on the subtitles to know what the heck the characters were saying. And the regional accents are the best part. Makes every populated area feel more alive, like it has its own culture.
My boy rex gets waaaaay too much hate and just for that one cutscene like yes he’s not the best protagonist but like he’s still a good one at least in my opinion
Really bored by the complete absence of objectivity in videos bashing the game and any below rebuttals to this vid. Great piece, structured and succinct. Leaving this for the algorithm, keep up the great work.
It makes me sad that Rex gets hated on for his accent as "bad english". Not a lot of people outside of the UK are able to recognise a Lancashire/Manchester accent and, to anybody FROM North West England, Rex is a breath of fresh air from all the South England/London (what you called "British") accents.
Even for a game that I don’t personally think I’ll play, your enthusiasm is contagious!! I love when people tell me about the small details that make them love games!
Currently addicted to MH Rise but I always go back to XC2 mainly because of the world building, music and combat. Still working on side quests, dispatching merc groups here and there, farming cores and items in the overworld, and repeating boss fights. One of my top 5 games for sure.
I've never played a game that played with my emotions as much as this one. And for me, just like in series and movies, I love emotional rollercoasters which is why this game is my favorite game ever
As someone who's played tons of RPGs and who's all time favorites include Xenogears and Chrono Trigger, Xenoblade 2 is my favorite of all the more recent JRPGs. I was really disappointed that people brushed it off as waifu bait since having played the game several times, it is a Xeno game. Even the bunny girl character a lot of people criticized, I actually ended up liking her after playing her sidequest. She makes a point that as a blade you can't really choose how you appear and it's easy to get judged by that, but your actions are what truly define you. I also really like Tora and Poppi because Tora's story is about defying expectations. He goes from not being able to become a driver at all to becoming (at least gameplay-wise) the most powerful driver in the game. And Poppi wants to evolve to meet her driver's expectations, but she also has her own fears because she recognizes that she won't have full control over how she evolves. She and her sisters can be used for both good and evil and she has to prepare herself for the long term consequences of that. The game really puts in a lot of time to making all the characters meaningful in some way, and not only that but if you're looking for content Xenoblade 2 has pretty much infinite content. Challenge mode and the sidequests will keep you playing for an absurdly long time if you have the mind to complete them all. I have a few hundred hours in the game and still have not done all the sidequests. Of course the game is not perfect, there was a lot of minor qol that they fixed, and I think the affinity charts could be tweaked to be less grindy as on NG+ it took a good amount of grinding to max out the driver affinity chart. Some quests like Ursula's New Groove are also made for masochists. And I kind of wish they had easier ways of grinding for Poppi's upgrade points in the base game so people didn't have to sink 10+ hours in Tiger Tiger alone. In NG+ they gave a huge qol boost with being allowed to essentially convert exp into expensive parts. But, the battle system is great and easily one of my favorites from any JRPG period. It's one of those things where if you take some time to delve into it you can do some truly nutty shit. The base game is actually more deep than even Torna because since Torna's system was designed for a much shorter game, there's a lot of really straight forward answers without as much room for creativity. The base game meanwhile, some fights are straight up a puzzle, especially in Challenge mode. For example, the Elma fight was both one of the most frustrating and also most fun fights I've done in any game.
Superb video! I agree with everything you said. It such a shame people complained about the trees and water in Pokémon Sword/Shield, but still played- but don’t give XBC2 a chance, while the world so much more alive!
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is vastly superior to the first game and that one was awesome. Story, soundtrack, character development for such an enormous party (including full character development for ALL villains) philosophy, and themes for the second one will NEVER leave me. I love this game so much. Combat in the second game is amazing and if you're grinding mini bosses for special chips, it's never boring and never the same battle! I hold all games to this standard now and they all fall short even if just slightly!
Loved this game, as a content creator my self there is so much to talk and see in this series. Well done on a good review by the way, it defintely needs more views bro
@@xanderscut well you got a subbed from me, looking forward to more content from you channel. Ngl this is my favorite game of all time and it was my first game when I got my switch that Christmas of 2017 I've always been interested to try Xenoblade ever since Shulk came to smash and with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 this game blew me away I love the world, characters, story, and combat it kept me engaged the whole way through sure there were bad moments but I was still having fun I'm glad to see more positive videos on this game
I just finished playing this game. It was actually such a joy the whole way through and to be honest I'm gonna miss characters like Zeke (at first I wasn't sure about him when I first saw him but he really does grow on you as the game goes along) and Morag. It really felt like you yourself were on this journey with these characters and the dynamic between all of them was something i liked a lot. It really felt immersive coupled with the beautifully designed worlds and music.
I got the game from my birthday this year I'm loving it so far the only things I don't really like is the navigation through the worlds, they are beautiful but I often find myself lost. And I even had some bad luck trying to get a certain blade for a quest. Overall as my first Xenoblade game I'm really enjoying it
Completely agree with almost everything you said here, WONDERFUL video and glad people love this game as much as me. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 really is my favorite story/game I've ever experienced with its almost perfectly written characters (especially the antagonists), excellent world-building, my personal favorite soundtrack in any game or anything for that matter, not to mention its's unique style and top-notch gameplay with complex/unique systems. I know the plot isn't the absolute best thing ever, the English voices have their weird moments, and it can get kinda slow-paced sometimes, but I still love it to pieces. It's hard to explain, but personally I think it's imperfections and the way it goes about it's storytelling, character interactions, world design, and memeable story/gameplay moments, make it really truly something special. Additionally to give some context of my first playthrough, at the time I was definitely feeling at my best and decided to explore into more gaming genres. I happened upon some JRPGs (FF, Chrono Trigger, some others...), and I immediately fell in love with them, actively becoming my favorite gaming genre. Their highly detailed worlds, stories, and unique gameplay with grindy systems made me really enjoy them and have all the aspects I appreciated in a game. I would just get immersed for months in their worlds. Around the same time, I also was starting to get into anime, and was totally encapsulated by the medium, especially liking the isekai/harem genre. NOW, this game came out and I was curious about it since it was a JRPG that was a Switch title, so was thinking nothing of it. Little did I know, it literally combined everything I loved about each of those experiences I had, and I immediately fell in love with it and the characters, especially Pyra/Mythra/Jin. But then, the story and gameplay kept getting better and better, and as someone who never played a Xenoblade game, it just really kept blowing my mind, especially the later chapters. It truly made me feel and experience emotions I never even thought possible... So with all that said, idk how anything can top this game for me... ALSO TORNA IS THE BEST EXPANSION TO A GAME EVER FIGHT ME
0:50 out of those 3, the middle one is probably the least irritating to watch. It's almost in a "respectable" manner, even though most of his points are just personal(he should REALLY change the titles to "why Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is disappointing TO HIM" instead of making it seem like his OPINION are facts are something.) The worst one is ABSOLUTELY the top one! He refuses to review it only to constantly bash it in every future video for the next 2 years and when he tries to give it a 2nd chance.....he completely HALF-ASS'S it and doesn't even TRY to learn anything!(very UNPROFESSIONAL there.) I remember even commenting that on one of the middle one's videos saying I'd choose his video over all others if for SOME godforsaken reason I was forced to watch a negative review of this game.(even though thier ALL wrong in the end).
It’s crazy to me how IGN didn’t get away with a few misspellings in their XC:DE review, but BeatEmUps got away with all his straight up false information about Xenoblade 2 and unfair comparisons. If he doesn’t like the game and couldn’t finish it, fine, whatever. But the fact that he started comparing it to games like Ys VIII, something he actually completed and understood is just infuriating. All of a sudden he starts pulling statements like “Mythra is a new character in Torna” “Story is surface-level” “Combat is automatic” “Torna introduces elemental orbs” out of his arse, trying to imply to his audience that he understands the game, when in reality he’s just making assumptions about what the whole game is based on the less than 10% that he played of it. Not only that, but whenever we tell him that it gets a lot better a few more hours in, he dismisses it, but then he tells his audience that people should give Octopath Traveler, an arguably much more tedious game than XC2, another chance for that exact same reason. He is undoubtedly the most ignorant TH-camr I have ever come across and his clickbaity thumbnails and titles don’t help either.
@@ametrine7462 i agree with you, i like beatemups, but that review of xc2 was terrible. He compared xc2 to ys vii even though they are both different games from different franchises. then he says that he doesn't want to make fans of the game angry, yet he bashes the game in about every other game review. then when he decided to give it a second chance, he seemed like he was complaining about everything in the game. and what Ametrine 7 says he gave out misinformation about the game in torna, no mythra is not a new character and with his total playtime in the main game, he should've been past that point in the story unless he grinded or was doing a lot of sidequests.
Fantastic video man! Sorry it took me so long to see it. I love the way your passion and love for the game bleeds through, it really makes the video engaging to watch. All that said though, I just don't know what I feel about XC2. I really think I need to just dive in and give it a go before I can see what you and so many others do. But you did open my eyes and show me a lot more of the depth that I didn't know was there. Keep it up!
Thanks so much Snugboy! Honestly your Xenoblade video was part of what got me to start writing video essays, I thank you for that. I’m real glad you enjoyed it. I do hope you get to experience that same experience I did with Xenoblade 2 someday. It definitely has its flaws, but it also has so many amazing things to really sink your teeth into.
Wasn’t expecting to see you here. Do you think you’ll ever make a XC2 video? It’s kinda hard to get into at first, because of the bad tutorials and the story is kinda filler-y in the first two chapters.
Nice to see a great review of this game, luck3d out and got a special edition of this game at my local target without really knowing what it was about, it just looked like a really cool special edition, turned out to be one of my favorite games
If it weren’t for xenoblade 3s announcement I probably wouldn’t have forced myself to play this game. And I have no regrets, except the fact that I didn’t play it sooner
Finished my Xenoblade journey last night and the Mio and Noah video made me give your channel a glimpse. Ah, Getting a bit emotional just over the OST alone shows what great memories I have of Xenoblade 2. I adored what I saw of 1 as a kid, but being a kid, income, whats that? Even with 2 It was me waiting for a switch as a gift, bought 2 and did not play anything else until 2 was done. It was an amazing experience and much like others It's end a tearful one (just like 3, dammit monolith). One cool thing is when I went back, even with the world going to shit since then (virus, general health of myself) I found myself enjoying the game even more than my first time through and while I didn't replay it (I mainly did postgame stuff because SCREW doing the Poppi quest or Ursula's again) It was convenient the man who exposed me to Xenoblade in Chuggaconroy, was lp'ing at the time, so I got to watch it through one more time. I also until this video didn't know Dromarch climbs even when Nia is riding on him. Most people that complain about the early voicework, don't get to the parts where it really shines, doing action screams like that with a voice you're still trying to figure out would be extremely tough, but there's loads of video's showing JUST those screams, just like Tidus's meme laughter in FFX. Now this is just between you and me but I've never wanted to turn on the SUB in a Xenoblade game, other than me not understanding Japanese, I think all the English casts have done an amazing job, This will sound rude but, I seriously hope they continue using the Europe side for localisation and not NOA, Purely so I don't have to have the "atlus cast" in all the RPG'S (Another thing I wouldn't appreciate until lots of SMT and Persona years later haha). The real big stinker with 2 is the memory leak, never had it until I played it again to finally see the DLC I payed for all those years ago, happened just after I did the Telos jumping, so yeah GREAT timing. Thanks for the blast from the past.
I was thinking about XC2 today, melancholic about some songs, and I cant believe I found some streamers tagging it as "Retro" now. Is such a beautiful game and I still think this is fresh in my brain, to the point that I cant believe it grew so much on everyone and several communities. I legit want to dive into this game again to relive it, or find more streamers playing it for the first time.
I’ve struggled to find a game that compares to Xenoblade chronicles 2. The negativity surrounding the English VAs massively triggers me, most of the voice acting is some of the best in modern video games. This game offers so so so much and it is missed by so many people due to all the negativity in TH-cam from really uncultured people who struggled to get to grips with the complexity of the game and non US VAs.
What I loved about The blades accents are American especially pyra and mythras voice acting. Not only that the way Pyra and Mythra speak don't feel like your usual Anime Voice acting with Bandai Namco or persona Voice acting too breathy to trying to be "anime" not saying theyre bad of course, but rather They sound like your Avarage American Girls. It sounds.. Natural.
To be fair. Rex has awful screams and no matter how you spin it, that's just bad VA work. The rest of the games VA ranges from fine to meh and the awful lip sync does it a huge disservice. It's not quite as bad as people think, but it's way worse than you're giving it credit for.
@@JetHammer I don’t think it’s as much bad VA work as poor directing. Rex’s greatly improved screams toward the end are evidence that the actor was much better than the early game car engines sounds they passed off as screaming would have you think.
The way I found out about the game was because of the character getting into smash and when I was watching the announcement I pulled out my phone and looked up what game they were from then it was all over my yt homepage so I gave it a try and it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played
I too entered this franchise thinking only the worst of XC2, jumping on all the memes on how anime and fanservicey it was, then I decided I had to see it for myself and I am proud to say - after having played all three main titles on Switch - it's still my favourite.
I was introduced to Shulk when I saw the original Japanese trailers of the 2010 Wii version, and I participated in Operation Rainfall to get the game localized in North America.
I originally didn't want to play Xenoblade 2 because I thought it was weeb anime garbage, but when I played it, man, it was a true masterpiece. It's my favorite game of all time and I spent 1200 hours in it. I'm glad to see more people love this game as much as I do.
I hate how mcuh people hate on 2, i looked up which xeno game I should play first but only 3 was in stock. i played it as my first and was severely disappointed, I played 2 a month later and it was the best game I have ever played. 3 just had flat, boring cookie cutter characters with the same theme every. godamn. time. emo character with sad backstory trying to redeem themselves. cop pasted everywhere. the only somewhat unique characters are Eunie, Noah and Mio and even Mio's backstory is unravelled in the final chapters. But for 2 there's Rex, who starts from the bottom and rises to the top but never being consumed by power, being a mirrored image of Jin who went the opposite way. Nia is truly tragic, albeit her backstory could have been introduced earlier, she was used by her driver as a replacement daughter and then forced to become a flesh-eater. Even Zeke, the comic relief character, has to recover from being banished from Tantal has to redeem himself and then uncover the truth about his lineage. every character even the rare blades have a unique, emotional and relatable motive, backstory and personality. And 3 is left being carried by that one scene in chapter 5 and its gameplay. it saddens me that people consider 3 a masterpiece of story and 2 being a crude, stupid anime game.
This is my absolute favorite video game, but so many people go into the game thinking its gonna be just like the first game but its not, it takes its time to set up the story rather than the first game that picks up within like, the first hour of the game. The game also falls victim to the most horrendous tutorials I have ever seen so most people dont really get the combat either, so a lot of people just end up seeing "slow story, slow combat" and never experience the games true potential.
Heh, first time I heard the music in Mor Ardain it was turning from night to day. I thought a boss had snuck up on me! I panicked! Definitely one of my favorite memories of this game
This is a really good review!! I agree with a lot of your points 👍 I really love the combat more than 1. The characters are great, love the music, and the environments are amazing I’m on chapter 8 right now and after putting in over 100 hours I can say it’s definitely in my top 5 switch games
Great video! I tried the original off and on again between Wii and 3DS but this was the title that got me into the series. Since then I've played and beat the original and 3. While 3 is my personal favorite, 2 comes in second and will always have a special place in my heart both as an entry in the series as well as one of my favorite games in general. I'm actually playing through it a second time now after five years. :)
Xenoblade 2 was my first Xeno series game. I think it ruined me, because as much as I love the other games, this one is my favorite.
Rex is unironically one of my favorite characters. He's just so wholesome, but he also knows when he needs to actually be serious.
"2 million sales are still a lot, but there´s so many mediocre switch games that sold much more"
Me who loves Xenoblade 2 and Fire emblem three houses: HE FUCKING SAID IT, FINALLY SOMEBODY SAID IT
The ending of XC2 made me, at the time a 30 year old man, ugly cry!!!
You're not the only one. I was 31 and I cried at the end too. It hits really hard
34, and same.
If that made you ugly cry, what did you do at the end of the Torna DLC?
FINALLY! A POSITIVE REVIEW OF XENOBLADE 2! KOS-MOS IS MORE COMMON THAN REVIEWS LIKE THESE!
Lol so true
@@xanderscut in fact, your review has inspired me to write my own review of the game. Think of it like those "reviews" by Captain Astronaut except it's positive and I actually pay attention to the story.
@@jackleveille9319 Ayyy that’s great, looking forward to it! Please let me know when it’s done, I’d love to watch it!
Sometimes I forget that there are people out there that genuinely love this game. Thank you for this video.
This is one of the best RPGs on switch.
I honestly encourage Monolith to try and top Xenoblade Chronicles 2, because if they did, that would be a truly amazing game to be able to top this masterpiece. In my opinion, this is far and away the best rpg on the switch. Of course, I am biased as this is my favorite game, period.
@@conorb.1901 of course, I'm always down for devs to top their games. Especially because that means better games for us as well.
Hey, long time no see
You’re letting the vocal minority get to you. For haters, there’s only BeatEmUps, Captain Astronaut and.. well.. that’s about it. But then there’s Enel, Luxin, LXGK, Chuggaaconroy, BlunZ, this guy, and many many more. Most people love this game and those who don’t are just loud as heck.
love this game to death, I dont care what elitists say
Man I absolutely love Xenoblade 2, the characters are so beautifully written I just love them so much, the music is insanely amazing and once the story got going I couldn't stop playing until I finally beat it, I almost cried when I finished the game not just because I was sad but because how much I love this game and how amazing it felt to finally finish it...
i was playing it when i watched it i cant get past the patroka and mikhail
So stoked to get this game on my birthday!!!
I am such a fan of Xenoblade 2 - it’s my favorite in the trilogy!
Spot on review I love Xenoblade 2. It's got the perfect mixture of new and old elements from the Xeno series.
That counterattack song always gives me goosebumps ❤❤
I'm glad this was my first introduction to the Xeno series
Counterattack is the most awesome video game music I ever heard!
Agreed! I love it so much.

Amazing video! I’m so glad to see a positive review on Xenoblade 2. This video basically sums up why this is my favourite game ever!
Ayyy that’s so cool to hear! Xenoblade 2 is also my favorite. I’m definitely gonna give your video a watch as soon as possible, you got a sub from me!
@@xanderscut Thank you
I had to look for some positive review just to confirm I'm not crazy for really liking my playthrough so far.
Thanks for the review! Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the best RPG(or at lest JRPG) that I've played. I'm so touched by the story especially the ending as well as the music that sometimes I still I feel I'm in that world after finishing playing for one week.
1:31 I had the same reaction. XBC2 is by far my favorite game ever made. It's just incredible.
Its been so long since Ive finished this game and it still lives rent free inside my head. Awesome video
I humbly request Why Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a Masterpiece (Non Spoiler Free)
I’ll most definitely make more Xenoblade 2 videos! There’s a lot I couldn’t gush about without spoilers, so I’ll absolutely come back to it.
Same dude! Every time I play through Xenoblade 2 it never gets old
This is one of my favorite JRPGs, this is the kind that takes you back to the PS 1 RPG era where you are completely hooked and can't stop playing.
I feel the same! Its like playing PS1 RPGs again! Feel emotional like in final fantasy x.
Did you ever finish it?
@@cyrrus_lite2796 yeah, I finished it a couple of months ago when they announced Xenoblade 3. Im gonna get Torna this week and try to finish it just in time for XC3.
oh it's time :)

Best purchase EVER
Great video! You did a great job of explaining most to what there is to this game without giving spoilers, makes me want to play it again for the 1,000th time ;v;
Good video! Not sure what to really say except for thanks for convincing me to buy Xenoblade Chronicles 2 :)
This is criminally underrated
Thank you so much!
I agree
This is a great video, man! I agree a lot with the points here, and it’s nice hearing someone talk about it who gives it the respect it truly deserves. I had no idea how much I’d love this game upon getting into it my first time, and I still find myself looking back on it, after finishing it months ago.
And thank you for bringing justice for my boy Rex. He deserves better than he gets.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you.
Love long cut scenes. Just like XenoSaga

I love the Englisch VA from Xenoblade 2
I vastly prefer the English voices to the Japanese voices, and it's not because I can only understand one language. I don't like the announcer (MAGNIFICENT!), I don't think Pyra and Nia's Japanese voices fit them at all, and all the Nopon sound like squeaky toys. Plus, since my monolingual self can only understand English, I actually get to watch the cutscenes instead of having to be focused on the subtitles to know what the heck the characters were saying.
And the regional accents are the best part. Makes every populated area feel more alive, like it has its own culture.
I couldn't agree more, Xenoblade 2 is by far my favorite game and means so much to me. It's refreshing to see a positive take on the game! :]

You perfectly articulated why I love this game so much. So refreshing after hours and hours of negative reviews lol
Absolutlely well said dude, your thoughts match mine exactly. Just completed my first playthrough this week, absolutely no regrets :)
Hell yeah, glad you liked it!
Bout to buy it for my birthday! Needless to say, your video got me HYPED!
Damn you are such a chad you explained why Dahlia is a good caracter.
Thanks to this review I'll buy this game

THANK YOU! I've played more than 600 hours on this masterpiece of a game!
So many people are missing out on a classic.

Great video. Xenoblade series is already really nostalgic for me
I just finished playing this game.
ALSO TORNA IS THE BEST EXPANSION TO A GAME EVER FIGHT ME
Will always support any video that appreciates this game.
Still my favorite Switch exclusive, even post-Xenoblade 3. Such an underrated masterpiece.
Glad to see praise for this amazing game. It gets so much hate because its 'anime' or the 'outfits'
Amazing video gps
And damn, the music Is soo good😭😭
Xenoblade 2 absolutely blew my mind, its prolly top 3 of my all time, I loved the voice acting lol
I just downloaded Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and I'm going to start playing it next week when I have more free time :)
I hope you enjoy!!!
@@xanderscut Thx
So true. I can normally accept criticisms on my favorite games, but BeatEmUps’s XC2 “criticism” was just downright awful.
12:02 I don’t cry much during movies and shows but that also made had me cry
NICE SNUGBOY THATS VERY NICE OF U
@@zinko3258 I TRY
Wasn’t expecting to see you here. Do you think you’ll ever make a XC2 video? It’s kinda hard to get into at first, because of the bad tutorials and the story is kinda filler-y in the first two chapters.
Nice to see a great review of this game, luck3d out and got a special edition of this game at my local target without really knowing what it was about, it just looked like a really cool special edition, turned out to be one of my favorite games
I started playing a month ago xb2 after i bought it last year and boy I love it. I'm glad to see more appreciation for this game.
I already wanted this game, now I need this game
This game is criminally underrated this game is a master class
@@Cowmoo83 I can agree to this.
The way I found out about the game was because of the character getting into smash and when I was watching the announcement I pulled out my phone and looked up what game they were from then it was all over my yt homepage so I gave it a try and it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played
Dude I keep thinking about this game but wonder if it’s worth 60bucks
I love this game so much. I'm 90 hours into it and literally can't stop playing.
After picking it up at launch and putting it down I finally finished it this month. Such an incredible experience
Pretty excellent video dude! Your video deserves more views than what it has.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate the comment!
I'm replaying this again. There are only few games that made me play the 2nd time and this is the best among them.
The tides are turning, people love XC2 now, and I am glad. It is my sister's favorite game of all time. It isn't hard to see why.
I am so happy to know that more people loved this game as much as I did!
Heh, first time I heard the music in Mor Ardain it was turning from night to day. I thought a boss had snuck up on me! I panicked! Definitely one of my favorite memories of this game
This game had me in tears way too many times. Got Xenoblade 3 a few days ago and already love it. Can't wait for it to break me again.
This is a really good review!! I agree with a lot of your points 👍
I really love the combat more than 1. The characters are great, love the music, and the environments are amazing
I’m on chapter 8 right now and after putting in over 100 hours I can say it’s definitely in my top 5 switch games
Making me cry with the ending song again… how could you 😭
This video is amazing
Great video! I tried the original off and on again between Wii and 3DS but this was the title that got me into the series. Since then I've played and beat the original and 3. While 3 is my personal favorite, 2 comes in second and will always have a special place in my heart both as an entry in the series as well as one of my favorite games in general. I'm actually playing through it a second time now after five years. :)
Man I got crazy goosebumps form that soundtrack
Such a great video, couldn’t agree more!
I can’t believe you have only 300 subscribers. The quality of the video is great, you definitely deserve more subscribers.
Much appreciated! That’s really kind of you
