Ok so my bike is a 97 750 with the dual setup... But outa nowhere my daily rider started acting up its stuttering and then you pull accelerator n it dies or tries to die. I can change parts but I'm no mechanic but this should most likely be a carb issues right? Yesterday it fired up n ran great, when it warmed up i took for test drive it did great at first n then it's like a switch flipped n it started stuttering then eventually died while trying to give it gas i seemed to make it worse actually. Please some advice would be greatly appreciated as my daily transportation has been down two months and I'm on disability bc a terrible spine injury i can't afford to just go get a m New bike. Please help guys.
Texan Tom would pull the carb clean the ideal jet and main jets just clean the whole carb get a build kit it’s like 8 bucks also the weather has got a lot hotter the past couple days so before you pull the carb maybe try to adjust the two fuel mixture screws on the carb one on each side if that doesn’t help check your fuel filter make sure it’s nice and clean and you have enough gas in the tank if you are running a fuel pump maybe check that if it’s clicking loud then might need a new fuel pump or you can just do gravity fed but you always have to have a good amount of gas in the tank carbs are a pain in the ass but once you take it apart once you’ll understand the bike a lot more
Texan Tom also check your battery you could maybe need a battery most auto stores will test it for free but you can get battery’s for a vlx for like 30-40 bucks on eBay
My 97 shadow was doing the same exact thing and I’m in the process of trying to put my bike back together, I found my carb diaphragm had a hole in it, & has my mechanic clean my carb. I also bought a new battery bc I was having to roll start my bike and was told that the old battery might not be giving the spark plugs enough juice to run at higher rpms once I give it gas which might be why the bike keeps dying. I’m struggling to get everything back together nicely but I’ll let you know what actually fixes this issue. If someone has videos of them putting the carbs back on their shadow please leave a comment with the url. If not it might be awhile before my mechanic can help me piece her back together

i'm pretty sure the fuel pump is OEM. It's the same system on my bike, from 99' that's stock
bro my 96 has the same fuel filter then into the fuel pump. I think it does come stock on the older models
