I wince when I read comments under this video that criticize this woman for looking down. Anyone silly enough to overlook that a., she speaks English as a second language, and b., she performed an ENORMOUS amount of material at this concert and relied on a teleprompter at her feet for help with the lyrics. Forget your virtue-seeking criticism, close your eyes, and listen to one of the most brilliant female vocalists of this century. Put her with this world-class orchestra and killer arrangements, and there is nothing finer. And by the way, nobody has ever sung this Bacharach composition as beautifully as Oosterhuis. I watch this once a week and probably will for the rest of my life.
I don't understand why anyone has to put negative comments about someone unless they can get up there and do something like this themselves. If you sing like this, then you might be able to have a comment about doing it. To quote Hal David, what the world needs now is love sweet love. I agree with you Gus!!
What a pretty woman! Her soulfulness, her range captures me. The gentleman, her guitarist, is such a big part of this beautiful rendition. Thank You❤❤❤❤
Brilliant rendition: I played this as my Partner (Hilary) died on the 20th Nov. 2024 from pneumonia, the house is now empty, I miss you so much, R.I.P Hilary.........
I lost my wife a little over a year ago. This song brings me to tears. Lois, you left me far too soon. 37 years together was not long enough. I love you always.
Literally every version I've heard of this song was done by someone who used it as a vehicle to showcase their voice and/or vocal dexterity. Oosterhuis, on the other hand, uses her voice to showcase the grace and beauty of the song. She doesn't overpower it...she (and the marvelous arrangement) becomes part of it.
A fair observation of practically every performance by Luther Vandross (with various partners). But it hardly applies to Ella Fitzgerald's reading of the tune.
I consider myself to be a big Ella fan and I'm ashamed to admit that I had never heard her rendition of the song until I watched a uTube video today. Thanks for the heads up!@@caponsacchi
I think this is Stunning,,She has beautiful tones in her voice..Power & Grace..The song sounds difficult to deliver..The melody 2.00 to 2.15 is almost outside sounding..She handles it Brilliantly..I think this would be an avoid song for a lot of singers..Trijnte Oosterhuis you are one impressive Lady..
No one can ever replace Dionne, of course, but if you ask me, Trijntje is the current keeper of the Bacharach flame. This is one of the most beautiful songs he and David ever wrote, and this performance is one of the best ever. Exquisitely done!
As a matter of fact, Dionne Warwick IS easily replaced. She has a wonderful voice, but man, she always sings a teeny bit flat, and it drives me crazy. No thanks, I'll take Trijntnje any day.
I've never heard of this artist but thank goodness for TH-cam. Oh my...the last time I was totally impressed with a female singer was Whitney Houston. I would love to see Trijntje in concert. Absolutely perfect.
In that case you should look up The Ladies of Soul, also with Trijntje Oosterhuis and Dutch and with Glennis Grace who's voice is very close to Whitney. Enjoy!
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 ABSERLOUTLY BEAUTIFUL. IM ONLY SAD THAT I HAVE JUST LEARNT ABOUT HER. IVE SO MISSED OUT IN ALL THIS TIME OF HEARING ANOTHER BURT BACHARACHS EARTH ANGEL SINGER. 🥰.
Thank you for those beautiful arengements and you beautiful voice. . Every time you are snging , it is a precious gift because in your voicesound there is a light 🙏🙏🙏✨⭐️☀️🎶🎵
Trijntje is all about the songs; no gimmicks, no frills. Just a beautiful voice telling the story. The best compliment is NOT to find it odd to listen carefully and compare Streisand, Warwick, Carpenter, etc., to someone I have never heard of up until a month back and not vice versa.
This is a remarkable series .. I'm old enough to remember when these songs were on the radio and the tranny of that format (3 to 3.5 minutes). This concert and it's publishing on the internet/TH-cam and now we have the time to embelish (with the orcastra tion) and to let Trinjnette explore the emotionally of the song. These are the blessings of technology and artistry that we now enjoy!
@@gregcoste5332 As the late Karen Carpenter once shared with us: when I was young I listened to the radio waiting for my favourite songs when they played I sing along it made me smile... The world as it is has me convinced that the true blessing is our memories of things wondrous and wonderful. Trintje's superb rendering of these timeless tunes always evoke in me a wistful, nostalgic smile which makes remembering them ever so sweet.
What an amazing voice - truly wonderful; Ive been listening on you tube whilst working for the last hour and didn't look at the video until a few moments ago - her English is faultless. Her voice is velvety with tones of Whitney - she has one more fan in the UK as of today; this lady is wonderful...
Firstly, yes, this is the best version of all (I've heard them all); she has the perfect tonal inflection and pleading wistfulness of a person who is broken-hearted and hoping for redemption of the relationship. Kristen Chenoweth is also very good. "Looking down" is very appropriate as this is an internal reflection, not a public declaration or ballad. It looks more sincere. It also allows the artist to really concentrate on technique and best quality. She really knows how to tug at the heart-strings. She even exceeds the Bacharach-Dusty Springfield duet for pure sincerity and sweetness. Most of the others seem too commercial in tone, not genuine. My hat is off to you Trijntje, and my heart is swollen with feeling. Great job! 'sniff' :)
When I get attack in my new house with something I couldn't see, I called the priest and he blesses my house with song like this I think he knows what's in there since then this song stuck in my head. Tnx alot
Never heard of her but she has an amazing voice...I love the way she makes you as if you can personally say that's how I feel inside..."I was never meant to be alone"....
I just started listening to her music, songs a couple of years ago, this one song reminded me of a time I n my life that I thought I wouldn't survive 20 years ago, my late husband had passed away a year after I heard this song, and i never thought the memories of that year would ever take me back to that place, it s haunting and bittersweet at the same time beautiful,
Loving this talented and beautiful woman!
Dionne Warwick sings this song so beautifully too. I just recently found this beautiful woman. She is amazing. 💖💖Thank you

Absolutely true
Gus Wah Was listening to Art Pepper and she appears as a next song. Lucky me, what a songstress

Thank you Gus on behalf of this Dutchie!
Well said!
What a pretty woman! Her soulfulness, her range captures me. The gentleman, her guitarist, is such a big part of this beautiful rendition. Thank You❤❤❤❤
How is Trijntje not world famous with the voice she has? So beautiful.... Tell me please.........
Agreed! She has a fabulous voice!
I agree she is beautiful in every way, the voice of a angel!
Brilliant rendition: I played this as my Partner (Hilary) died on the 20th Nov. 2024 from pneumonia, the house is now empty, I miss you so much, R.I.P Hilary.........

What an excellent and beautiful interpretation. Thanks for posting it.
Prachtig gezongen Trijntje! God Bless you in many many ways!❤
One of the best female singers that I ever Heard, beautiful voice, you go girl. Awesome

wow ..this audience is rather reserved. THIS LADY IS BEYOND GREAT!!
If I had been at this concert, I would have been applauding a bit more than them !!!
Ik kende de nummer alleen met Dusty Springfield en Burt Bacharach maar nu ook Trijntje Oosterhuis en ik moet gewoon geweldig zeggen.👍💖
Beautiful , just beautiful. Sung with feeling, never going over the top, just really very well done.
Ella tiene canta maravillosamente, nada más que agregar... Dios la bendiga.
I regularly come back to listen to this. What a stunning voice, and for me, the best this has ever been sung.
How have I not heard this lady's stunning voice before!?
Brings tears to a grown man, I lost her over 30 years a ago the love still haunts me this song says it all flawless performance

Exactly!
Absolutely perfect way to describe this performance. The arrangement is sublime.

Geweldig mooi, hoe Trijntje Oosterhuis dit prachtige gevoelige nummer vertolkt van de Burt Bacherach. Grote klasse.....!!!!
So much discipline to not let be carried away and focus on such a tender rendering
PERFECT, BRILLIANT TECHNIQUE, EMOTIONAL, STUNNING, CLASSY, ELEGANT, WHAT A VOICE
Wonderful, just wonderful you sing this song!!!
what a beautiful voice pure and beautiful that was perfection very beautiful moments thanks a lot

When she sang still in love with me, we all sweat
A beautiful soul with a fabulous tonal quality.
Her tones are clear as crystals. Pure and controlled, she delivered this difficult song with grace and finesse. 👌👌👌💯💯💯🌹🌹🌹🌹
This song breaks my heart.
I weep.
An absolutely beautiful rendition.
True. So beautifully performed.
With this song I remember my death daughter.

no disrespect, but this is my fave
i agree with you totally. Trijntje interpretation of the song is spot on. One of the best versions i have heard!
As a matter of fact, Dionne Warwick IS easily replaced. She has a wonderful voice, but man, she always sings a teeny bit flat, and it drives me crazy. No thanks, I'll take Trijntnje any day.
J. Mark Lane : not even close to Dusty’s soulful rendition which will never be equaled or surpassed.
Just my opinion.

Her voice is so beautiful, I love the way she sings, it really touches my heart and soul..keep on singing 🎤🎶🙏💝💝💝

🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 ABSERLOUTLY BEAUTIFUL. IM ONLY SAD THAT I HAVE JUST LEARNT ABOUT HER. IVE SO MISSED OUT IN ALL THIS TIME OF HEARING ANOTHER BURT BACHARACHS EARTH ANGEL SINGER. 🥰.
Luther Vandross was my favourite singing this until now, Trijnte beautiful , wonderful thank you.
My first time to hear her voice and saw this video, so beautiful. I wonder why she isn't popular when in fact her style is kind of WOW!!!
Brings tears to a grown man. Angelic

😳...what a beautiful voice!
😊👍3 likes from Italy!
Dionne, Luther and now this beautiful lady voice covers this song so well. Bravo
Impossível não se arrepiar, né gente? Burt bacharach foi genial, dono de uma musicalidade incrível. Puro gênio.
An outstanding version of this, my favorite Bacharach/David song! Excellent orchestration and vocal!
I still think she should have had a standing ovation for this !!!!!!
This song is so beautifully sung that I get tears in my eyes, BTW, I am a male.
This is emotionally stunning and simply gorgeous arrangement.

This is such an emotional composition. I cry almost everytime I listen to it.
This and maybe Alfie, the most beautiful songs ever written. She does Burt and Hal justice here, and also Dionne. Tremendous.
Love her voice ...so crystal clear....
Beautiful song and good performance and very touching
Beautiful voice and nice American English accent. Great performance.🎉❤ Thanks
Beautiful voice. Love this song.

And this is not even her mother tongue.
She is staring down becuase the spotlight would be right in her eyes if she looked forward from that spot on the stage and I suspect it is blinding.
Perfect!!!
man, the voice, a blend of grace and power. Does it get any better than this?
This was an absolutely beautiful, flawless performance!
+Nick Spears i agree totally
there's something about her voice that touches my heart and soul... excellent rendition of this song!
When I get attack in my new house with something I couldn't see, I called the priest and he blesses my house with song like this I think he knows what's in there since then this song stuck in my head. Tnx alot
