Thanks for the great tip! Purchased a used unit for $120 with this exact issue. Changed the start cartridge after seeing your video, it now works great!
I scored a pak master 50 for $30 at the scrapyard which worked after blowing all the dust out of it. It's gun doesn't have that switch in it like your's though. Initially it took up to 30 seconds for the arc to start, but with more use it got better until the next day it's arc starts immediately. Good score!
Thermal dynamics make an excellent machine. I originally bought a hypertherm 1000. Had nothing but problems with it. Out of warranty they wanted $1400 to replace powerboard. What a ripoff! So I bought a Cutmaster 58. Best machine I ever had! Absolutely no problems with it!
If you don't get an arc check this.... Part of the cup hides in a slot in the handle. In that slot is a little switch that senses the edge of the cup. If this switch doesn't sense the cup ----- no arc --- red light at !
On my Cutmaster 38 with the SL 60 torch. I had an intermittent safety switch that proves you have the shield in place. The AC light flashed like in this video. I was sometimes able to get it to arc but would soon die out and light would flash. I was able to jump the orange and black wire in the torch head and it works great now. I will replace the switch soon ..
I have a thermal dynamics cut master 40 and the consumable electrode is arcing just above the start cartridge. What’s causing that. I’m on my third start cartridge within a week. Because the ark is damaging the edge of the start cartridge.
What do you think of the thermal dynamic plasma cutter over all. .? Would you recommend one. ? I'm thinking of buying one soon. .thermal dynamic cutmaster 12 or hypertherm 45..big difference in price and the thermal dynamic seems to be as good if not better. ..
Don't buy Thermal Dynamic I've had nothing but trouble out of mine... Only used 2 or 3 tips and only cut a little over 2 years with it... It stopped working just as the warranty ran out... Does not work at all now...
I bought a hypertherm. I had nothing but trouble out of it. Hypertherm has great marketing, but their machines have problems too. I guess the expense of marketing is what makes their machine cost twice as much compared to other companies.
