Other note, one of the most cryptic and difficult games on nes; where if you didn't check something 10 times you'll never figure it out..

Beating this game was a Monumental achievement as a kid in the 90s,, you couldn't look s*** up on the Internet, there were no walkthroughs you had a pencil and paper.

This game is great other than the horrible olive collecting. That pathway to getting the golden apple is harder than death mountain in Zelda 2. I was never able to beat it without a guide though.@@HV6AZZ002

One of my absolute favourite games on the system. You need to listen to the townspeople though, cause otherwise it's gonna be like Simon's Quest. But in this game, the townspeople don't lie and you're not dealing with a terrible translation.
I learnt a lot of English off this game, piecing together what I needed to do from all the hints =)

The only bad thing about it is that occassionally you have these grinding sessions for olives or salamander skins to go on. (Grinding olives btw is easiest done before the temple of Athena)

It's actually possible that the developers of this game stole at least some code from Zelda 2. Notably, there's an acceleration glitch present in Zelda 2 that lets you move at crazy speeds. That exact same glitch is present in Battle of Olympus.

@@bubullus1169 In all fairness it did bring about new gameplay mechanics and storytelling ideas. Integrating multiplayer aspects into single player games, nontraditional storytelling largely based on level details and lore, a unique risk/reward bonfire save system, and losing something upon death that can be regained. It has countless imitators and recent games that probably wouldn't exist without Dark Souls are Death Stranding, The Surge 2, and Jedi: Fallen Order

Loved this game, but it is hard. Extremely hard. It isn't unfair in terms of hardness. There is never a point where you are beaten by broken mechanics. Enemy movements are harder to predict than many of the other games of the era, but with enough practice you can reasonably predict how they will move. Spend enough time farming slimes and bats for olives and they become a breeze to predict.

Guys, this is a really straightforward game to beat. You just need to take a second to figure out the jumping controls and, above all, keep track of where you're going (counting doors can't be that hard). Hydra is easily beaten, you just have to keep a healthy distance and preferably kneel while striking. This is a great game once you get into the groove, but you have to work for it a little bit (not much actually). Nowadays most games hold your hand from the very beginning, so I get why you were struggling.

This is a tough game but a great one. You do not play it like a Mario game. it is a game of advancement and using information and tools you gather. You cannot run right through it. It is a RPG. It does take time and patience. I have played it 3 times and it is rewarding to beat it. You are given save codes in all the temples and you will not lose anything you have gathered or won. Great early NES game.

When you get used to the patterns to beat the bosses it's really not so bad. Also, talking to people is very very helpful in this game, unlike the useless townspeople in other games like Zelda 2 or Simon's Quest. This is a game I have to concentrate on though, because It's hard to play and talk to people at the same time. You have to get into the zone.

There is a trick to the Hydra, just crouch in front of the bubbles and keep stabbing, he won't be able to even get out of the water, you'll always hit him. As for the shoes, you hold A as you walk to get on the ceiling, I always thought, and still do, that that was the coolest sh*t ever. As for things like the pits, and getting weapons, almost everything is being told to you by characters in the game.

I always really liked Battle of Olympus. It just has a unique, cool atmosphere to it, and being set in Greco Roman myths is perfect for a game like this. Things like monsters, magical weapons, gods and demigods are all built right in.
Also, why NOT make more action RPGs in the vein of Zelda 2? That game has plenty of flaws you could improve upon if nothing else. This specific style of action RPG is surprisingly rare, too. For instance, Wanderers from Ys is somehow the only sidescroller in that massive, long-running series (and the enhanced port(s?) of it aren't even available outside of Japan.)

Ok this one time i think youre wrong. You guys painfully have no patience for this game. The boss comes out at the bubble and you said you hated it before even learning it. Zelda 2 had TONS of learning and harder parts than this game. Now that you mastered Zelda 2 its not as crazy hard anymore. This game is the same genre as Z2 BUT you guys give it no chance at mastery like you did Zelda 2. So this time is clearly on you guys

I think the reason that some people say that the Famicom version of "Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde" is better than the NES version talked about @ 7:40 is due to it being more complete, just like why some people claim that the SNES version of "The Lion King" is better than the Sega Genesis version due to it having better graphics and sound despite the fact that the latter is actually more polished in terms of gameplay.
