Mel.. question... the cargo hooks in the van floor, if there going to be covered up etc. why remove them and not just leave them in place?

I'm about to buy a van and convert it myself. I am a maker, but mostly of jewelry. I have little experience with construction. So I need all the help I can get, although I want to do most of the work myself. I think I'll form a deeper attachment to my van that way. What sort of tools will prove most important in the build process? Any advice for someone like me?
Yes, FWD vans do have lower cargo floors because there is no rear diff.
Im converting the exact same van right now and stuck on the floor battens, how did you put the 25mm battens down on the back and side edges... Did you have to put some extra wood underneath so that the batten is flush with the floor ridge and not balancing half on a ridge? Thanks in advance!
From memory I think I used 30mm 🤔
@@BigVanSmallWorld Thanks for the reply, Theres a small gap between the end and where the floor ridges start so just didn't want to balance the batten on half a ridge. The van came with some ply strips for the edges so the floor panel sat flush with the top of the ridges, I think ill just reuse these and put the batten on top and over the first ridge for extra support. I imagine you had to get creative for a lot of the build with this van and its strange shape Haha ps I also have the same step to get in and out.. just watch your head!

Mel, have you ever changed the double front seat to a single one? I have been told that the drivers side base is a straight bolt on is this true? Thank you for your videos and inspiring me to get on with my own High Top Transit build and also showing people that not every single transit out there is a rust bucket. Just need to keep up maintenance to the body to keep it in tip top condition. Have you considered maybe having a meet up with your followers in the summer? Stephen

use the seat base from the drivers side all holes match up just done mine

There are single seat bases in some Tourneos but you can use a standard drivers base and grind off the hand brake fittings. By the way it's not hard to make an adaptor bracket to fit a FordGalaxy swivel front seat in these. Lots in the scrap yards. They don't adjust as well as a proper seat so won't suit all but cheap to try out. Happy travels everyone. John
Forgot to ask Mel, when you put the ply over the top of the polystyrene do you fix it down or is it just laid loose on top?

I use the tie downs in the van no penetration... otherwise why drill holes? Turn buckles to the floor then construct the interior

Hey mel obviously you have the need for a vapours barrier and with metal skin you must have a dew point ? Where is the condensatiin/moisture draining too ? I see you plugged all the holes in the floor.
peter amberley the only holes I plugged where the ones created by me removing the bolts and screws the vents in the lower side panels will remain unaffected 🤓🤙

Nice job on the floor Mel. Oh, plus the trim looks well, I like the brass effect trim myself but it doesn't look good for very long when it scratches up.
What do you think of transits in general Mel? I know they get some bad rap but then again what doesn't? 👍 Your works cut out for you, straight into another van 🔧🔩

So far so go , Did you lay ply down before the laminate and was it shelf locking or did you need to glue it , your lucky only 2 cats i have 2 German Shepherd dogs assisting me . my wife calls my van TWABI ...The Wag And Bark Inn .

Mel won't be able to cut corners on anything if for someone else and filming it, not that you cut corners anyway. Should be a safe van it's had a cat scan and it's all clear.

The guy picked a good van FWD low floor, dive a lot better than the RWD.
