I did the same think when gutting a lock with a core retaining pin, definitely a duh moment, but I did management to get it fixing after working with it for a while, if I were you I would also go with the mushroom, great job with it
This is why I don't gut locks anymore , the 3 locks I tried to gut , I messed up lol , I will just stick to showing off the locks I've bought on ebay to everyone haha

You could file down the lip of that mushroom pin to make it the same thickness as the original. Interesting gutting tho.

Mushrooms and tapered key pins, this is the standard for all Yardeni 5 pin locks.
