“A charity is due for every joint in each person on every day the sun comes up: to act justly between two people is a charity; to help a man with his mount, lifting him onto it or hoisting up his belongings onto it, is a charity; a good word is a charity, and removing a harmful thing from the road is a charity.” (Al-Bukhari, Muslim)

    What is Zakah?
Zakah is one of the five pillars of Islam and is a duty performed on a regular basis. Zakah is not an option it is a compulsory act for all Muslims. It is a contribution paid once a year on savings of two and a half percent. This giving is to “cleanse” your money and possessions from excessive desire for them or greed. The idea is, that by giving this money you learn not to place too much importance on material wealth (cash and possessions).
Zakah is a compulsory payment and is neither charity nor a tax. It is expected from every Muslim individual. It is paid on the net balance after a Muslim has spent on basic necessities, family expenses, due credits, donations and taxes.
Zakah provides us with the opportunity of sharing our excess wealth with those less fortunate than ourselves. In fact we and our wealth belong to Allah. He is the real owner and we are merely the trustees of His wealth. We do our duty as trustees if we pay Zakah as an obligatory part of Ibadah.
Islam is a complete code of life which includes among other things, the economic side of life. Islam has its own economic principles. Zakah is one of the basic principles of the Islamic economy, based on social welfare and fair distribution of wealth. In addition to the compulsory payment of Zakah, Muslims are encouraged in the Qur’an to make voluntary contributions to help the poor and needy, and for other social welfare purposes. This voluntary contribution is called Sadaqah (Charity).
Through the payment of Zakah, the rich share their wealth with the poor and thus the process of concentration of wealth is checked and fair distribution ensured.
One of the key concerns that many people have is that any Zakah given reaches the people in need, this means that there is no money kept by a charity for administration etc. Ummah Welfare Trust operate under a 100% donations policy, this means that every single penny reaches the people in need.
‘Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (Peace be upon him) as saying: If any owner of gold or silver does not pay what is due on him, when the Day of Resurrection would come, plates of fire would be beaten out for him; these would then be heated in the fire of Hell and his sides, his forehead and his back would be cauterized with them. Whenever these cool down, (the process is) repeated during a day the extent of which would be fifty thousand years, until judgment is pronounced among servants, and he sees whether his path is to take him to Paradise or to Hell’ - Sahih Muslim

      Salam brother
I wanna know what scholars say who do we pay zakat to
Can we just pay it staring to poor or needy or we must give it to islamic center
I’m from Bosnia and our main imam says we must only give them money and we are not allowed to give to the poor, needy on our own and I don’t think they’re right
And another questions is even if zekat collectors take money what do they donate all of it or part only
And las questions is. What’s zekat used for? It can make be used for schools, building etc
      Only for poor right?

In the Qur’an, Allah Almighty has mentioned 8 categories of people who can receive Zakah. Allah Almighty says:“Alms are for the poor and the needy, and those employed to administer the (funds); for those whose hearts have been (recently) reconciled (to the truth); for those in bondage and in debt; in the cause of Allah; and for the wayfarer: (thus is it) ordained by Allah, and Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom.”(At-Tawbah :60)
The expression “in the cause of Allah” orfi Sabil Allahwas generally interpreted“Jihad fi Sabil Allah”and so many jurists restricted thisZakahexpense for this purpose.
Muslim jurists also say that in the Qur’an Allah used the word“Lil fuqara’ wa Al-masakinor ‘for the poor and the needy’ and the’lam’or (for)” here means’tamlik’or possession. Thus they interpret the above verse to mean that the poor and needy should be made owners of this money orTamlik Al-Zakah.
Since in public and social welfare projects no one becomes the owner, so, according to their interpretation theZakahshould not be used for this purpose. Thus you will find in the books of Fiqh statements emphasizing that the money should not be used to build theMasajid, schools, hospitals, hostels etc. because this money belong to poor and it should be given to them. There are some jurists who still hold this strict opinion concerningZakah.
Those scholars consider it permissible to use theZakahmoney to finance theDa’wahand public welfare programs. They say that the expression ‘for the poor and needy’ can also mean ‘for the benefit of the poor and needy’.
The modern jurists also argue that in the past Muslim governments used to build Mosques, schools and used to finance public welfare projects. Now many governments are negligent in this matter. Many Muslims are living in areas where there are no Muslim governments.
Furthermore the financial needs of the people have become so enormous and diverse that earlier rules and restrictions cannot be fully applied and may not be very useful in every place.
It is ‘fi Sabil Allah’ and it is helping the Islamic cause in many lands where it would have been very difficult to establish Islamic institutions and Mosques without it.
Zakahis basically for the poor and needy and most of it should be used to take care of their needs. I believe that for the Mosque constructions Muslims should make extra charity and should give from funds other thanZakah. However, it is not forbidden for Muslims to give theirZakahmoney for the building of Mosques and schools, especially in non-Muslim countries.
Islamic centers should have a separateZakahfund. Those who do not want theirZakahto be used in building projects, should give their money to theZakahfund. But those who want to give theirZakahfor theMasjidconstruction they should donate directly to that project.”
If you have any further comments, please don’t hesitate to write back!
May Allah guide you to the straight path, and guide you to that which pleases Him, Amen.

      Thanks brother
I believe it’s more important to feed poor and help needy than building a mosque. Especially big mosques with this and that. Today mosques are big but most of the time Space use is about 10%.. i wish there were no poor and needy people so we could just built mosques or remodel them
My problem is that Bosnian clerics are telling us to give them only stuff and they show no transparency of what they do with it and I don’t see them helping people that I know of. I do know about islamic relief USA and I supper them and they are all over the world helping people

    Assalamu alaikum.
My employer pay some of my allowance upfront. This amount is upto nisab, but is deductible from employee gratuity when you leave before end of year. Can I pay zakat on my upfront?. If yes can I give my younger brother the zakat due?

    • @nabn4247
      @nabn4247 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Walaikumassalam. Yes you should pay Zakaat on your upfront allowance, because you only need to give that back if you leave your job before the end of the year. So unless you are quiting your job anytime soon, you should assume you will still be working till year end, and pay zakaat on it. Also, better give more than less and better be on the prudent side. As for giving Zakaat to your brother, that's not allowed. Zakaat cannot be given to family members. Hope that helps, JazakAllah Khayr.
