I like this review. Especially when Critical is talking about how the King Crab can take a ton of damage, and then at 8:07 you can see one drop dead right in front of him...
I've always hated going against these in the battletech tabletop game, so much so that i never actually fielded one (that weird thing about respecting it before using it, knowing i wouldn't use it right,...if you know what i mean) . And somehow it seems even more impressive in a PC game. And with your pretty nifty display Rocket, i'd like to say you use the fact that you have crabs to your advantage (like Carl from Aqua teen).
Gavin Again They give me POWAH! I have a KGC mini I intend on painting in a colour scheme befitting the it's grand nature. It's a brutal 'Mech on the field though, the damage alone is enough but the skill checks to make sure you don't fall over from the impact is worse.
At the moment this is my favourite mech. I run it with 4 AC5's and an ERPPC. In this configuration it destroys other mechs so much faster than any other mech that I have tried (which does not include clan mechs). While with the AC5's it does half the damage per shot than with the standard AC20's, it reloads twice as fast. The ERPPC is a good match because it needs the same lead amount as the AC5's when aiming and adds 10 more damage.
+James Lewis I always prefer the rate of fire over the higher damage as well. The AC/10 I think is the best balance of rate of fire and damage in the autocannon lineup. So few 'mechs carry the AC/10 though.
I have recently got myself a kingcrab with a ac/20 and I added an er ppc after i saw your comment. The er ppc is a great long range option for when your have taken too much dmg, your out of ammo or just too far away for the other weapons. It adds a little bit more dmg and maybe even a little bit mor screenshake, which is nice to have on a kingcrab.
Dpf 1110 They have a good effect on players since they look like they more damage than they actually are so being hit a few times by PPC's always puts the shits up players, especially on wide maps like polar, alpine and the new grim plexus.
Whiskiz Yo Well PGI enjoy hobbling themselves for the challenge it seems. I agree they need to make money to keep the game running but yes they need more actual gameplay content outside of new Battlemechs. Its a tough balance and I don't envy them for trying to find it.
Critical Rocket id appreciate the fact if they even tried to find a balance between the 2, cause that would mean they are actually working on the second one lol
Whiskiz Yo Well today they sort of made a new mode by altering counter attacks in Community warfare to be a skirmish match. Although this is using the term "new mode" extremely loosely.
Critical Rocket not only extreme loose of the term, but how long did it take to even implement clan wars, something that was promised upon release, to even be able to? and how many millions of mechs and mech sales and mech packs and mech skins and mech paint and inmech dash items etc etc were made and sold during those many years?
Whiskiz Yo Well they blame their entire list of failures on their former publisher IGP. To give them some credit they did seem to suddenly pick up pace with new content fairly quickly after that, but many of mechanics implemented is their fault entirely. The biggest and hottest elephant in that room being Ghost Heat, amongst other dumb mistakes like third person, VOIP, no Euro/Asian/Oceanic servers and giving 'Mechs ridiculous quirks that make them god king emperors of the battlefield which they never were in Battletech to begin with.
I built my king crab with dual guass cannons and two large pulse lasers, but down the road I'll stick a xl engine and rock 3 large pulse lasers with the dual guass.
I really like the look of it and I was thinking of getting one of the normal ones, but I mainly stick to lights, mostly my Locust and the speed is just a turn off, even more so than my atlas. Maybe Ill see if there's a good discount on MC for Christmas and get one.
I honestly don't deviate from this mechs original build. Though, I opted to be faster. I use an XL 355, dual AC/20, and 2 Large Pulse Lasers. It's quite effective, and there's enough ammo to keep it going through an entire match. The trick to playing the dual AC/20 is to only fire dual AC/20's once to get 40 pinpoint in, then alternate their fire. It's how I play it as a brawler. Superior torso twist make it to where the King Crab can do this with some pretty awesome results. Alternating the AC/20 saves a lot of heat, and allows you to keep firing until a target is down, or badly crippled. That being said, this mech is very good at duels, but don't run smack dab into your enemy. Stay with your group and you'll soak up and dish out impressive damage.
"don't run smack dab into your enemy" This is a thing that i have done a lot because i was thinking " i am able to tank all that " and it was never a good idea. Sometimes there are even situations where you are not running in and your instantly being rekt anyway, because everyone is attacking only you.
Khorn Demon Its pretty powerful but for a 100 tonner its not shocking. At least its a legitimate Battletech dual AC/20 build rather than those made by PGI. I can imagine a lot of people calling bullshit on the 4 UAC/5 and 6 AC/2 builds when they become available for C-bills
largelysubatomic Personally I would pick the King Crab now simply because its a straightforward chassis with very good hardpoints and a low profile so it can avoid fire more easily compared to the Atlas.
largelysubatomic While it lacks the ECM capability that the Atlas D-DC or the speed of the Atlas-BH, I run a KGC-000(L) with 2 ac/20, a medium laser, an AMS, and I think a 335 standard engine, and have 7 tons of AC20 ammo, and can usually net 1-4 kills and deal between 400-900 damage a match. And the other versions of the KGC allow you to missile or laserboat while still having AC options, unlike the atlas. I think its the best 100 ton mech in the game. But thats just me.
Fobhopper I completely agree, right now the Atlas is simply outperformed by the King Crab. Both have their own roles of course, but I think the Atlas will now be relegated to the ECM role where the KGC will simply be the beefy damage dealer of the 100 ton 'Mechs available for the Inner Sphere.
Critical Rocket Stalker 4N rules the Crab any day. I have both, the 4N is more of a front end laser vomit, have had crab dinner plenty of times, in the 4N. Also The JagerMech can carry 4 U-ac5's and is a brute on the field, you should look us up one day Clan : LMAO
If PGI would add meelee attacks into the game ( which they probably won't ), these crab claws could become even more dangerous. You could probably easily cut off arms and legs of the enemy mech , using the claws.
✌️🖤 ❤️🔥💥👈 😁👉💥❤️🔥🖤✌️ In single player MW5 I aquired and still have a beloved hero variant KC that replaces its AC20's for FOUR er ppcs, its original shoulder laser with a medium ballistic slot (in which I put an ac10 lbx solid shot cannon), and the same large missile slot as the original. Love it. Mixed gold and black platinum paint job. ✌️🖤 ❤️🔥💥👈 😁👉💥❤️🔥🖤✌️
You get both the King Crab AND the Nightstar at the start of the Dragons Gambit expansion pack for MW5, and its become my always mech. I just adore it. Brought it home to meet my parents but they just seemed confused. I have NO IDEA why. ☝️ 🤪👈
One thing I don't get is why in MWO the Inner Sphere mechs are customizable that the Clan. Lorewise, isn't the point of clan omnimechs is that they were incredibly customizable?
Back before the clans were added PGI wanted to allow the players to make more custom builds. One of the big hurdles was the engine weight limiting this, so to make sure players could make whatever crazy builds they wanted, they removed the fixed engine rule. However when the clans arrived with their inherent benefits compared to the Inner Sphere, PGI realised that clan 'mechs would be way more powerful if they allowed unlocked engines. Now they could have changed this when the clans arrived but instead leant heavily on quirks and numerous balance passes. In the end it never found a happy middle ground and once they got to a level that was acceptable for most, they left it for years until the recent balance changes.
It's still a very good assault, well worth the price. If you like dakka then the KGC can provide in spades and it's lower profile can hide it better using terrain. It is a wider target though.
I would be surprised if they didn't use all of the existing models, but if they just make it singleplayer we might only see the 'mechs they want to use for the story. Also a nice combination name there, D20 D&D and ASMR :)
Critical Rocket and yeah, i guess that makes sense if they dont include an instant action mode, but if they do, it seems like unless where the game takes place in the timeline has massive mech restrictions, we will probably see all the units
I agree it should have a instant action mode and probably some form of multiplayer, at least a co-op mode to replay missions or just run custom battles against the AI. I guess we will have to see what progress they have made by mech con this year.
cmanrocks04 One of my favourite 'Mechs of the Star League era. I am eagerly awaiting the C-bill variants so I can run them with all olive drab colours, true to the League and its former glory days.
CellLord01 Depends what you want to get out of the game. If you got bored waiting for CW then it's checking it out again for that if you want to join a unit and do some planet capture drops etc. If however you want new modes or a better mechlab setup then you may get bored quickly. That isn't to say they haven't made gameplay changes, balance fixes and added a few new maps alongside new 'Mechs. Still if nothing else CW is worth checking out but only with teamspeak and an organised unit to play with. Hope that helps :)
Critical Rocket Thank you. Do you know if there are any ridiculous cheese builds that are popular right now like those silly ppc-gauss poptarting highlanders? Also, I heard they added the King Crab is that true?
CellLord01 Yeah it's true the King Crab now roams the battlefield in all it's pincerous glory. This video is of the KGC ;) A popular build with the king crab is 2 Gauss and 2 ER PPC's. Also large laser builds are popular since it has high energy mounts in the torso.
any tips for driving this mech? iv got the b (i think) varient that comes with artemis on its missiles and i die super quick, core just evaporates so do super bad :(
+MuffledOrk Well firstly you are big and can do a lot of damage but that doesn't mean you can tank it. King Crabs have wide torso hitboxes and this a lot of hits will go to your centre torso. Another issue is speed. Not being the quickest can mean you get left behind when a team makes a move across the map. With that said you are best running the king crab as a support assault. Wait for the fight to start, maybe stay hidden for a few seconds so the brawl begins proper and then start opening up 'mechs. Make sure you have upgraded to endo steel to free up weight for more armour (if you haven't already) and max out that Centre torso armour. Remember that your arms are low slung so you have to expose more of the 'mech to fire compared to other 'mechs out there and if you run the dual AC/20's remember the heat will build up quickly. In essence play the King Crab as a defensive support 'mech. As long as you don't charge in you should be fine more often than not. Hope that helps. Anything else reply here :)
MuffledOrk You should remove ferro, it doesn't work like it did on tabletop and only serves to take more critical slots. If you remove the ferro and go to endo (it will cost sadly) you will still be able to get full or near full armour and have more room for ammo etc. Also artemis is only necessary if you're running a couple of LRM launchers, otherwise it's best to remove that also and have normal LRM launchers. Artemis enabled launchers weigh more too you see.
MuffledOrk Yeah on tabletop it does actually provide lighter and stronger armour but in MWO it just gives you a little more weight to add more armour. It's more useful for lights who need as much as possible. I haven't really come across any 'mech above 40 ton that really needs ferro.
zman6033 It would be nice to see some kind of realistic ballistic physics, but I fear PGI would either botch it big time or just make it so certain AC's would become practically useless and instead of reverting things, they would start a string of dumb nerfs and buffs to try and fix it.
zman6033 They need to add a stock mode since people run stock 'Mech mondays on the forums. This would be pure Battletech so default armour and internals, engines, heatsinks, weapons and ammo. The game would be completely different and far more tactical.
ya they seem pretty nice, and they proven the can can do the claw hard points. plus they already have the 700 year old banshee so why not add the predecessor to the king. it only makes sense.
SiRGeant PauL Sadly not, its an online only title. You can play with friends by dropping as a group of up to 12 people but it will be against other players. I would love to see a PVE mode so friends can play together and murder some AI bots too :)
I don't see them much recently since filming the Longbow videos. I think they have been largely overlooked for other assaults like the Nightstar since it has higher hardpoints for easier peek and shoot tactics.
I dunno. The Atlas is completely useless now aside from ECM. I hope this thing gets a nerf. Also, this thing is pretty much clan tech. As Lostech is Star League. And Star League is Clan.
lumpy1space2princess Well lostech is the height of weapons technology during the Star League era. However clan tech is star league tech advanced another 300 years. It effectively makes clan tech completely different from Star League era technology due to the many, many changes made by them over that time.
+Afrothunderkat Last time I checked, LRMs are almost always good to have. They're a decent way of dealing long ranged damage, and you also have to remember that on a build like the one used in the video, if your AC/20 ammo runs dry, you're left with just a laser and some LRMs, basically neutering you.
+Afrothunderkat you may be correct, however i don't play for the meta. I play because i played the table top back in the 80's and i remember how these mechs were built. Not how min/maxers are trying hedge their win rates. I'll stick with stock, it's true to the spirit of the game.
cmanrocks04 Well I can't skype (no webcam) but send me a friend invite in game and if you want to run with myself and other TAW members, just ask :) We have our own TS server so I can send you the details through chat. Also we are still recruiting, so if you're looking for a unit...... =p
cmanrocks04 Well for chatting it would be easier to use Teamspeak since I use that everyday for matches with TAW. So if you see me in game shoot me a message and I will give you the TAW TS addy.
Conan Reid For the meta and efficiency in game yeah dual Gauss or quad AC/5 is the way to go. However I run my 'Mechs stock simply because I am a Battletech purist and changing them so much just doesn't feel right for me. But yeah the standard build isn't amazing in game, but on the tabletop it was pure evil.
I started playing the table top in the late 80's. The thing I loved about the game was the ability to modify or even build a new mech. While we can't build new mech's in this game but the ability to modify it is my favorite part of it. You refer to my engineering to personal flavor of the mechs as meta. I actually hate meta design mechs. I find them unimaginative and boring.
Conan Reid Well its not exactly original to add Gauss rifles or 4 AC/5 to the King Crab since virtually everyone came up with the design when NGNG posted the teaser video last month. The current meta is boring I agree but these days 'Mechs either boat lasers to vomit or dump gauss/UAC's and just play that. From tabletop I enjoyed the RPG side with the deep background and political side of things. Creating new 'Mechs was always fun, but the group I played with usually stuck to the established variants from the Technical Readouts since completely modifying a chassis to a characters specs was incredibly expensive in the universe. Obviously for the wargaming side the ability to make your own variants was key to building a force that worked to your own style.I blame PGI for sticking so many hardpoints on the 'Mechs to essentially create a meta rather than allow players to create builds based on what the chassis normally carried. The Banshee BNC-3E should have the 1 ballistic and 1 or 2 energy slots. Instead PGI gave it 2 energy slots in the torso and 3 ballistics in what I can only imagine was "We'll just put that here, we sure don't expect players to make a 3 AC/5 build or anything like that." Its the reason I prefer running things like the King Crab with its stock loadout. The only things I tend to change are the structure, heatsinks and ammo if I can fit those into the chassis. So this crab has extra ammo for the AC's and a heatsink extra or two. I also bump the armour up if possible since stock armour loadouts are not enough to survive the builds that currently stomp around out there. Not strictly stock I know but I guess I should make it clearer at the beginning of the videos that these are stock weapon loads. Thanks for taking the time to comment though Conan and thanks for the view :)
It really looks like E.D.209 from Robocop hehe "You have 10 seconds to comply!!"
haha it does have that look. And the 6 AC/2 variant pretty much shoots like E.D. 209 anyway :D
@Critical Rocket
Don’t illegally park on private property.
I like this review. Especially when Critical is talking about how the King Crab can take a ton of damage, and then at 8:07 you can see one drop dead right in front of him...
+Michael Lupinski That was a dummy king crab to lull the enemy into a false sense of security.

They have a good effect on players since they look like they more damage than they actually are so being hit a few times by PPC's always puts the shits up players, especially on wide maps like polar, alpine and the new grim plexus.
For this one, you want to place a couple large lasers with two PPGs, for some damage as well. And, team with two smaller
crab mechs, for fire support.
Holy shit its ED 209!!! Wait a minute.....
This aesthetic design alone makes this mech bad ass. The ridiculous payload is just a bonus : P
ProgHead89 King Crab is the true 100 ton monster of the field. I mean its a giant enemy crab!
I cannot fuckin belive that this video is almost 6 years old. Wtf.
nice to see they are still working on pushing more mechs for sale and less you know, actual game content (game modes etc)

Simon C I would wait for the c-bill versions since its a damn good assault 'Mech but PGI's MC costs are a wee bit too high in my opinion.
Me and my buddies are trying to 3D print this thing for our Battletech games. We're hitting snags, but hopefully soon we'll have it good to go!

Artemis enabled launchers weigh more too you see.
ah i see, i thought ferro was better hence why i never took it off but ok ill do that thanks :0
MuffledOrk
Yeah on tabletop it does actually provide lighter and stronger armour but in MWO it just gives you a little more weight to add more armour. It's more useful for lights who need as much as possible. I haven't really come across any 'mech above 40 ton that really needs ferro.
to bad they don't factor in slanted armor KC would be even harder to kill
zman6033 It would be nice to see some kind of realistic ballistic physics, but I fear PGI would either botch it big time or just make it so certain AC's would become practically useless and instead of reverting things, they would start a string of dumb nerfs and buffs to try and fix it.
agree maybe a realistic match mode would be fun
zman6033 They need to add a stock mode since people run stock 'Mech mondays on the forums. This would be pure Battletech so default armour and internals, engines, heatsinks, weapons and ammo. The game would be completely different and far more tactical.
urbi has an AC20 xD
Noice only if they had the regular CRAB. i think they look pretty cool. Kcrab just went c-bill today getem while there hot.
kyle sprenkel The Crab would become my default Medium 'Mech if they released it this year.
ya they seem pretty nice, and they proven the can can do the claw hard points. plus they already have the 700 year old banshee so why not add the predecessor to the king. it only makes sense.
Critical Rocket dude i suggest 6 ac/2
can be played offline lan (no internet)?
i want to play with my friends
SiRGeant PauL Sadly not, its an online only title. You can play with friends by dropping as a group of up to 12 people but it will be against other players. I would love to see a PVE mode so friends can play together and murder some AI bots too :)
Are any of the King Crabs still viable in game?
I don't see them much recently since filming the Longbow videos. I think they have been largely overlooked for other assaults like the Nightstar since it has higher hardpoints for easier peek and shoot tactics.
@@CriticalRocket Shame. One of my favorites to the point where I found 3d printable files for a posable model.
Critical Rocket hit /or ? do stop the delay
i love king crab but i hate the build from the store so i have king crab withaout the lrm 5 and lrg laser
Yeah it works well with pure ballistics builds. A very deadly assault.
Love this video! I have done 1301 Damage on my King Crab set up as a missile boat! Video on my channel of it.
i meen lrm 15
Is it on ps4
Brandon Campbell Currently MechWarrior Online is only on PC and PGI have yet to mention any plans for a console port.
oh thank you though
Brandon Campbell
no problem :) Any other questions let me know.
Drop that LRM.
+Afrothunderkat Never! It is an integral part of the King Crab :)
+GreatSwordOfVictory I pull 6-800 damage games easy and never run out of ammo. The meta build for KGC's is so much better
+Afrothunderkat
you may be correct, however i don't play for the meta. I play because i played the table top back in the 80's and i remember how these mechs were built. Not how min/maxers are trying hedge their win rates. I'll stick with stock, it's true to the spirit of the game.
+purplexenno I'll take meta build over boating any day. I HATE boating.
Critical Rocket getting team speak now
Cool.
dude getting battle amster nowthe Is version
i meen lrm 15 sorry wrong write
No problem :)
jeese you need to increase your FoV....
Moonraper205 Yeah I keep meaning to change my .ini file but never get round to it.
2018 reporting in, we FINALLY got an FOV slider in general settings. Yay!
You bro I got team speak
cmanrocks04 Cool. You are welcome to join us on TS this sunday when we have practice.
bro just got a triplr 0 kingcrab
we can skype and play sometime
cmanrocks04 Well I can't skype (no webcam) but send me a friend invite in game and if you want to run with myself and other TAW members, just ask :) We have our own TS server so I can send you the details through chat. Also we are still recruiting, so if you're looking for a unit...... =p
you don't neeed a webcam to sktpe you just need a mic
cmanrocks04 Well for chatting it would be easier to use Teamspeak since I use that everyday for matches with TAW. So if you see me in game shoot me a message and I will give you the TAW TS addy.
don thave teamspeak
The dual AC/20's are worthless. They are too slow and too hot. you would do better with dual Gauss Rifles or quad AC/5's.
