WOW the front lip scrapped at 2:11 the suspension should adjust to prevent that... The only way I think they can do thus scenario in an incline is with something to scan the road up ahead like Mercedes does with Magic Body.
And crickets from the Ford GT fanboys. The ZR1 is 3.5 seconds a lap faster when both cars are driven by the same people/same day. Pretty fucking definitively closes that discussion.
The GT2 RS had bespoke Sport Cup 2R tires, not available to the public or Porsche customers, which account for most of the difference in time. If it was on its available Cup 2N tires, it wouldn't have been so dominant. Also, the GT2RS has less power loss due to the ambient temps during hot laps, thanks to it's water injection system. ZR1 doesn't have that feature, and it suffers for it power-wise in hotter weather.
Sooo, in short. The GT2 RS is the better, faster car. Chevy dumps a massive wing and huge power on a car and it goes fast. Porsche dumps a massive wing and big power on a car and it goes faster...
Thanks for the video! I think that this car needs a bit more front spring or front dampening to make the rear a bit more planted through transitions / corner entry. I think that would inspire more confidence and it would get closer to the GT2's time.
Or it could use the same compound rubber as the gt2 with its new R tyre and that would do it! Pathetic Porsche put that rubber on the gt2! It wasnt even released when the car came out. 2 seconds a lap quicker on a 1 minute lap....
different strokes for different folks. some people are faster with twitchy/loose cars. I think that if it were a bit more tight and planted on entry / transitions, it would only make it faster.
For clarification I see the c8 beating the viper acr times esp if we see a zr1 version. I dont see dodge bringing the viper back with the hellcat and redeye being so popular. I do agree the acr is a no frills track beast though.
Real talk, this ZR1 is faster than the 911 GT2 RS around this track. Two seconds ain’t shit to beat with the right driver. I’m sure a skilled driver could easily pick up two seconds in one of those turns. Just my thoughts.
Minimum speed at hog pen shouldn't be a comparative statistic. Seems like the drivers can't crank out consistent lines through that corner, so the speed suffers as a result. The ZR1 with wider, grippier tires, aero, a low CG, and weighing almost a ton less still posted a slower minimum speed than the jeep trackhawk.
That’s good this is exactly what I’m looking to see this Chevy Corvette ZR1 sprint in action beating the Mclaren 720S by nearly 50 of a seconds faster . Unfortunately for it’s time of 2:39.50 the only two cars that can go 2:37.00 faster than this ZR1 and the new Ford GT is the same ZR1 but in sebring orange and the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS. Which a hell of a great lap times for these two 👍👍👑👑🏁🏁
Luis Morales the ZR1 already did 2:37.25 on this track, beating this particular time by the GT2 RS. It just didn't do it in this Car and Driver test. The Ford GT's best is 2:38.62.
Yeah that’s true but despite the car being in second of this year 2018 Car and Driver lap Record , The Corvette ZR1 still remains the king of all the Supercars here at VIR .
Just a set of Goodyear supercar 3r tires and this car would drop 2 to 3 seconds a lap. I know for sure I race a 725 hp 2019 c7 z06 in global time attack and tested the tires back to back. The cup2r is slightly faster but only for 2 laps then is slower than Goodyear 3r.
Wish there was something to make those downshifts 10000000% faster....bet the time would be so much better with a faster response of that gearbox. Anyone know why this car does not have the 10 speed ?
I think because of their weight advantage, the C6 ZR1 would be faster than a Z06, but will be slightly slower than the new ZR1. The old Z06 will keep up with the new Z06, or possibly beat it as well.
I look forward to watching all the new Lightning Lap videos every year. Thank you Car and Driver for your straight to the point no BS videos.

can we see a lap with the manual as well
Mk L Amen brother!! I'm so sick of seeing vids and reading publications where they are testing an automatic ZR-1.
I think the driver could have pushed the Vette a little harder on the back half. 🤷🏻♂️
I could tell that driver is average and unable to push this vette to half its limit...
And crickets from the Ford GT fanboys. The ZR1 is 3.5 seconds a lap faster when both cars are driven by the same people/same day. Pretty fucking definitively closes that discussion.
Still king The ZR1 C7 with the ZL11LE 10 Speed
I hope i can get a proper sponser to upgrade my current 2017 ZL1 to this monster.
IMO the ZR1 could've been pushed harder and it would've still been just as planted and stable. It should've at least tied the GT2 RS time.
I thought the driver was late getting back in the throttle.
Chevy ran a faster time at VIR, comes down the temperature of the day and the driver.
Sooo, in short. The GT2 RS is the better, faster car.
Chevy dumps a massive wing and huge power on a car and it goes fast. Porsche dumps a massive wing and big power on a car and it goes faster...

The GT2 RS also has more downforce, a $300K price tag, a stripped interior, and is 400 lbs lighter.
chevy's zr1 ran production car lap record of 2:37.2 on this same track
Braking into turn 1 is incredible, I'll bet he left a crease in the tarmac
Why didn't you use the Free Manual for this run? Be fair to your Readers, viewers who love self Control of a Manual for Daily Driving then Track....
Awesome ZR1 would be perfection if it was 300-400lbs lighter
I like the ZR1 with an 8 speed because it is faster than manual!
2:38 slow in 2 turns
I don't believe the time unless the stig drives it.
That transmission shifting? OMG! f1 style
Zr1 already has the record on this track, this was just the car and driver guy doing it
Different compound or tires does not change the inherent balance of the car. you can't fix handling problems with tires.
different strokes for different folks. some people are faster with twitchy/loose cars. I think that if it were a bit more tight and planted on entry / transitions, it would only make it faster.
I see there are a ton of video game racers in this section again.
ALMOST 4 SECONDS FASTER THAN THE FORD GT
*FUCKING*
*_D E S T R O Y E D_*
OMG, that is just ridiculous!
You can hear the PTM working really hard to find traction is most of corners exits :)
The Viper ACR is just a better car everywhere and anywhere.
With them not being produced anymore the records they set will fall..
@@lovescamaros1 why would they, previous viper's records stayed till the new viper's claimed a new time record
For clarification I see the c8 beating the viper acr times esp if we see a zr1 version. I dont see dodge bringing the viper back with the hellcat and redeye being so popular. I do agree the acr is a no frills track beast though.
On the road where the ZR1 is faster from a dig, from a roll, and more comfortable to live with?
Real talk, this ZR1 is faster than the 911 GT2 RS around this track. Two seconds ain’t shit to beat with the right driver. I’m sure a skilled driver could easily pick up two seconds in one of those turns. Just my thoughts.
If this car had the tire set up from the ZL1-1LE it would have been faster.
This zr1 should be a lot faster than it is maybe it’s because the aerodynamics isn’t as structured as the lesser powered 720 s?
Minimum speed at hog pen shouldn't be a comparative statistic. Seems like the drivers can't crank out consistent lines through that corner, so the speed suffers as a result. The ZR1 with wider, grippier tires, aero, a low CG, and weighing almost a ton less still posted a slower minimum speed than the jeep trackhawk.
Just think if they had the cup 2R tires on it, like the porsche.
Doesn't this thing have a manual mode? If not, what are the flappy paddles for?
Yes.
It does, but it's setup well enough to do better in full auto.
I've always thought the paddles were just for pretend engagement.
Car and Driver Magazine
Is there room for a couple of turbo chargers?
It's a tight fit under the zr1 hood.
Full exhaust, pulley, tune....easy 850whp
화면에서지도와 속도를 어떻게 볼 수 있습니까?
Just a set of Goodyear supercar 3r tires and this car would drop 2 to 3 seconds a lap. I know for sure I race a 725 hp 2019 c7 z06 in global time attack and tested the tires back to back. The cup2r is slightly faster but only for 2 laps then is slower than Goodyear 3r.
Damn, beat the 720s around this course, suck it McLaren!
Hey Sean! It kris! Great meeting u today! Lets do a collab!!
Wish there was something to make those downshifts 10000000% faster....bet the time would be so much better with a faster response of that gearbox. Anyone know why this car does not have the 10 speed ?
It doesn't fit.
I’d love to see how the C6 versions of the ZR1 and Z06 compare with the same amount of downforce/aero
I think because of their weight advantage, the C6 ZR1 would be faster than a Z06, but will be slightly slower than the new ZR1. The old Z06 will keep up with the new Z06, or possibly beat it as well.
