New sounds just have so much more depth. And like everyone is saying, they sound real and not robotic anymore. Hats off to the devs!
Some sound still robotic in fh5. In the higher rev range
they literally put a microphone up to an exhaust and that’s how most of the audio files were made

This isn't even funny, it's downright depressing! The fact that we had to put up with FH4 inacurate and robotic sounds for THREE whole years is almost upseting, now that we know that, yes, they CAN do a good job!!
The thing is, it took those whole 3 years to get those sounds.
The thing is that wouldn't sell more copies of fh4 so why even bother, hence they still haven't fixed the active aero of P1 since the first time the P1 appeared in forza game.

Horzion 5 sounds are still pretty robotic imo, this is definitely an improvement but there's no getting around the fact that the way the cars rev make it feel like the engines are just little electric motors
No one has really mentioned we have idle sounds now. That’s massive! I used to hate FH4 and sitting in tunnels with a C63AMG in silence.
That v8 at idle sound so real and so good
Just listen to the newer Dodge Charger from the 2000’s idle, wonderful.
FH2 had them too and honestly a lot of the sounds are better, especially super/turbochargers

it’s really refreshing in horizon 5, i get into a different car, and it actually sounds like another car. unlike fh4 where the sounds are copy + pasted lol. coming from a day 1 original horizon player, i haven’t had this much fun playing a forza game since 2012.

Can’t imagine how they managed to store all these audio files in a 100gb game considering all the other assets that make it up. Audio files take up so much damn space so this is impressive to say the least considering how many cars there are in the game and the variation in sound when you tune each car. The combinations are endless
Each sound is like a millisecond that has to loop billions of times, that's how they save space and make it sound good
Textures and other visual assets often take much more space
Audio files are tiny in comparison to the car models. The variations of each car's engine, exhaust, turbo/supercharger were all synthesized for just a single gear (from minimum to maximum RPM) and the progression through the selected audio file is determined by the percentage of the current RPM between minimum and maximum. Probably a gig total for all the audio files.
100gb is a huge data file. They easily could’ve fit it in less through more lossless compression.

Being my #1 favorite car, I was so happy that it now sounds like it should. And not only that, all three Vipers can now have their own distinctive exhaust notes, while actually sounding like a Viper. I do the Goliath for 5 laps every day in the old GTS just to cure myself from the suffering that was driving it in FH4.
Another noteworthy mention is the BMW M5 E60. While it sounded fine in FH4, the audio itself sounded broken. Like it had cuts in between the revs if you revved it too fast (a lot of cars suffered from this). That thing sounds absolutely gorgeous now. Brutal, specially in cockpit view with that deep growl from the intake and that trademark BMW metallic rasp from the exhaust in the chase cam.
I've always defended Forza for their good sounds, but I could not forgive how bad they were in FH4. They have not only redeemed, but completely outdid themselves. They even went the extra mile to make alternate sounds with exhausts and intake combos. They didn't have to do that.

God after playing FH5, I forgot the amount of cars in FH4 that had so many recycled engine sounds.
The cars with the biggest improvement are definitely the classic muscle cars, all of them sound proper meaty and throaty, especially the 1970 Challenger R/T, that’s also my all time favorite car, so seeing it with a proper mean sound on it is the thing of dreams really :)
I have been doing the road races in a Pontiac GTO and it sounds great.

I feel like the main let downs to me in FH5 from FH4 are the Huracan/Gallardo and R8 V10s aswell as the R35 and R32, all sounded great in FH4 but not as good anymore in FH5

The only problem I have with the audio in FH5 is that they sound kind of "thin" or "weak". They sound realistic but they don't sound loud as they do in reality. They are kind of "thin" so to speak and for some reason sound a bit muffled, which I believe is due to the mics having to wear the windbreakers as they were recording the sound of cars.

Nah it’s no excuse for Forza. NFS has no problem making the cars sound as good as they do in real life I have no idea why Forza seems to fail on that end even though they do great on the graphics and the scenery. All they need is good engine/exhaust sounds and it’ll be perfect.

Im glad the S65 actually sounds similar to an S65 now, however I think Horizon 4’s E60 M5 sounded closer to the real thing than Horizon 5. They seem to struggle with BMW exhausts

The thing with Horizon five is that when some cars are at 7,000RPM, it sounds like its at 5,000RPM. The R32 Can rev up to close to 9K but still sound like its at seven and a half.

I totally agree, while the new game sounds great a lot of the high RPM cars seem to be missing the crescendo that they’re known for.
Yeah, I think thats the issue that kills the F50 for me in 5. I love that car so its disappointing for it to sound so low rev all the time.
Playground Games (and to a lesser extent Turn 10) don't understand what revs do to the sound. It's been the same since they added their own sounds into FH3.
this exact reason is why i hate driving the Jaguar E-Type in FH5, the sound doesn't match with what it "should" sound like at a given rpm
The one problem I have is that the pitch is too low for those redlines. That's it. Other than that, HUGE improvements!

The Zonda Cinque sounded like the C12, they downgraded CGT and the F50 as well.
The Carrera GT is abismal. Also the Mercedes 190E is getting worse with every episode which is a shame.

No they’re not literally I have listened to one of those sounds in fh5 and I find them really silent and that also includes the rs4 avant, the rs5 coupe and the ttrs that sounds like a modern ttrs
Only three things I'd love for them to improve slightly with FH5. It seems they took out the DSG farts that some cars in FH4 had. This is a small detail but something realistic that the real cars do. Another thing is that in the real world when cars get tuned to crazy amounts of horsepower, they sound high pitched, loud, crazy and you can just tell they have tons of power just by the sound alone. And in FH5, although the stock cars do sound very realistic and good. When you start heavily modifying them, it doesn't give off that same sense of power and craziness that comes with high Horsepower cars in real life. Also, allot of the high revving cars in the game don't give that same feeling of being high revving. Best example is the GT350. It has a red line of 8250RPM. But in the game it doesn't even sound high revving at all, it just sounds like any other normal V8. All that, and in my opinion the M4 sounded better in FH4

Should do some more comparisons to FH2... id argue that game sounds overall better than FH5.
Some examples would be any Mercedes, the Lexus LFA, any Lambo, any viper, any porsche, and many more.
But you cant… the sounds ARE LITERALLY TAKEN from real life in nearly every scenario. Meanwhile FH2 is taken from a dyno recording.

Tbh, Forza horizon 4 had too much and Forza horizon 5 has too little.
Not only they all sound amazing. But you can even change the sound!
I'm a huge fan of Forza, had been playing since 2013. I just tried forza motorsport 6 a couple of days ago just to see how the game stands today after 6 years and to be honest it still looks gorgeous and, in terms of sound quality, believe it or not but over 80% of cars sounds way better then most of Forza horizons and not gonna lie, it sounds even better than FH5. I played FM6 Apex On PC and also FM7 also has better sound quality. Why Microsoft just don't copy paste the sounds from previous games if they can't improve it? Why can't they just put the sounds from previous games until they properly create a sound that actually looks better then previous games. This games is focused on making things realistic. But what's going on is they improve tiny bit of things and ruin the rest. This is not going well, they gotta fix this. As of being fan of this game from years I'm never going to say, To hell with this game, they are not improving it as they were suppose to so I'll leave. I can't I love Forza myself and I want that all to be fixed instead of saying that. They should work on it of course they are not listening until FH6 but just do it at least.
I will say, the Ariel atom had a more accurate sound in fh4 in terms of rpm

Definitely, a lot of cars I've noticed in these clips don't have the sound synced correctly to the rpm it is at.
The sounds I have the most fun with are the old stock muscle cars, throw a sport exhaust on em and I can sit and listen to it all day, I have never been so obsessed with cars sounds in Forza ever till FH 5

Then heard the FH5 sounds and can confirm that it was, indeed, that bad
These sounds are hit-or-miss for me, but they do have a lot more depth and sound less robotic. There is much room for improvement tho

The fact is that sounds are realistics in FH5. The problem is that sometimes seems like some cars have hell of a silencer at the back, even though some muscle cars that sounded like your average blender, sound like a nowadays 3cil Suzuki.
They probably wanted to avoid audio clipping.
So glad that all the sounds overall are the best I've ever heard in a videogame. Having variations depending on the exhaust and air intake is an added bonus in case two cars sound the same. And they finally fixed the Maserati GT! It has had a Ferrari engine sound since it first appeared in a Forza game, and not that characteristic muscle V8 it should have like in real life.
Though they have botched a few:
- VW VR6's have lost their VR6 note, sounding like regular V6's.
- The Bugatti Type 35c sounds like a 6 cylinder when it's an 8 cylinder.
- Putting an alternate exhaust on the Mercedes Benz X Class makes it sound like a 5 cylinder. It's very subtle, but there is definitely a 5 cylinder note in there.
I hope there are no more.
The Koenigsegg ccgt sounds kinda like an irl jesko in fh5
I think 90% of the sounds have improved, but the other 10% devolved, like the Carrera GT or the Corrado VR6

FH5 sounds more dimmed in sound than FH4, which makes it really comfortable for your ears over longer periods of time playing! :)
for some reason, in fh5, when you start getting into higher rpms, most cars dont seem to get louder, just higher pitch, while in fh4 the opposite happens
Bruh the ttrs in fh5 sounds like a dodge viper it’s unrealistic the ttrs sounds better in fh4 I’ve even watched the video on how the ttrs sounds and the sounds in fh4 is more accurate to real life and it’s louder so no debate that it sounds better in fh4

I’m not even a “car” guy and still knew something was off about FH4’s engine sounds. Like my Chevy Equinox sounds better than some of those vehicles from 4. Lol
Credit where credit is due, as a veteran player of both, they got good sounds. I admit, H4 may not be as good as H5, but I’ll cut them a bit of slack since it was 2018 and they probably didn’t have a lot of budget to record individual sounds per car. H5’s sounds are hella realistic but H4’s give me some nostalgia whenever I log onto it.
some sounds from FH4 were more accurate such as the BMW M5 E60,
some sounds from FH5 sounded better , but most sound like somebody took a wet towel and shoved in the exhaust ... too muffled apart from some cars being accurate in terms of that.
After buying and playing horizon 5 a few hours I can definitely say, the sounds are so incredibly good! With some cars you just feel „wow that was so good“ after a downshift! It’s so much more fun! And some sounds are so realistic it’s spooky!🤩🤩

The TTRS sounds worse in my opinion. Fh4 sounds more Real. The same goes to the A45. Both dont Sound like in real live

Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love Forza Horizon 5 sounds. But to me and in my opinion. They all seem a bit quieter than the last games. Back in Forza Horizon 4 and even Forza Horizon 3 the sounds had a lot more “loudness” to them. In FH5 the sounds Just seem a lot quieter. I just want them to be a bit louder for some cars.
Just turn down effect sound and boom.
In a way it makes sense though because the sound is muffled by the environment you drive in. I definitely hear my car scream more in the open desert than a rainforest. But I do get what you mean though. Some cars are missing the loudness, some are fine. It’s strange sometimes. I’m still very satisfied though. I sometimes spend an hour just switching to random cars I got that I would normally never drive and just listen to what it sounds like. In FH4, I would stick to my normal 10-15 cars
@@Anakin0217 so true, and it's actually fun now to drive at civillian speeds and low rpms because they sound just like their real counterparts, like the chevy colorado!
Keep in mind that all these cars are stock. In FH4 the sound never changed so they basically just chose the most aggressive thing they could. With FH5 if you want a more aggressive sound you can pretty easily achieve it with exhaust upgrades.

Im suprised the Lamborghini Diablo SV didn't make it to the list. A intake and race exhaust make it sound more like the Lamborghini Murcielago than the murcie in the game.

The f450 and Titan Warrior both need the sounds from the Titan warrior in FM7. In fm7 they sounded very close to a 6.0 power stroke. The sounds in fh5 hardly sound like a diesel at all.
I liked the Warthog sound more in FH4, they were using an audio file closer to Halo 4's, while in FH5 the sound is closer to Halo 5's sound, which is good, but it's simply that I like Halo 4 more. :b
I think the car sounds are a thousand times better in 5. My only complaint about the car sounds in 5 are that they are to quite sometimes. Like I find myself bouncing off the rev limiter sometimes cause I couldn't hear my cars rpms when racing in a group. Even with fully upgraded exhaust and the music off some cars are still very quite. Other than that new car sounds are great.
Horizon 5 is the kind of game where they will give you any car an you can have fun with it because of all the customization options. Especially when it comes to exhausts and what not. Such a fun time exploring all the different tones and tunes of driving the vehicles that game has to offer.
I actually liked the sound of the F50 in FH4 more than 5, especially in the tunnels. But oh well, everything else sounds better lol.

Tbh im glad this comparison is just the vehicles soeeding up and is quite short you can hear it so you can hear alot if the cars in a short amount of time, makes it better and more interesting to watch imo
I just find it nice that instead of the instant sound of shifting in fh4 you can hear the revs flutter a little that little detail makes it so much better for me

Sadly muscle cars don't sound like muscle cars but hope they fix that in FH6 or 7 or whenever. And add the feature to actually make real drag cars, big slicks, parachutes if necessary, wheelie bars, etc. And a start up button to hear all your cars first start up before you drive would be cool.
The cts v also sounds horrible in fh5 as well
The onboard sounds are where FH5 really gets immersive!

In FH4 the AMG GTR sounds nicer the AMG GTR is a loud and noisy car in FH4 they nailed it. But.. FH5 is a lot fresher and better. FH5 sounds like more deep, more bassy.
I like the Turbo and the V12's, in FH4 it sounded robotic and weird. In FH5 the Turbos sound more like a real one with the nice iconic ''stutututu'' and the V12's don't have the weird robotic screaming at the red line. Good Job Forza. FH4 sound like Straight Piped. Loud, screamy, Anoying. FH5 is like a Cool and Good Sports Exhaust. Not too loud, nice and good sound etc, etc.. Overall i would give it to FH5 because they got rid of that Weird and robotic sounds.
All in all, fh5 sounds, each and everyone of them, are better than their fh4 counterparts
not really, ford gt for example sounds worse in horizon 5 but they both sound nothing like the real car. it sounds much more aggresive in real life.
It’s nice to see the Ferrari 250 GTO on this list, don’t know if it’s accurate but it sounds amazing, especially with a Race Exhaust, the long repair time was definitely worth the wait with that car.
The Shelby Cobra S/C and Dodge Charger Daytona sound great as well.
I just can't play a game when the engine sounds from cars that I can't afford aren't accurate.

FH5 is in all ways better then FH4 and all that everyone wanted was for the sound to be not sound like shit!! I’m thanking the team that put the time and effort in each car before I chow down for thanksgiving !!!
