I was never allowed to feel joy , my mothers attitude to life was expect to be disappointed as all joy or happiness won’t last ,so I’ve spent my life in fear of expecting the worse to happen, this is so ingrained in my subconscious that I’m unable to let go, I listened to this with sadness as all of my life has been spent living in fear expecting the worse, I’m 77 now, I would love to learn how that it’s safe to let go of the way she has brainwashed me into this attitude to life, and experience freedom of fear and find joy and peace in my life,

Hey.i think fighting you will begij feeling frustrated and stressed I think as this video suggests try to understsnd and validate the reason you cant feel joy, understsnd its merits. And then invite gratitude and joy into your life. ❤hope this helps

I realized during meditation that I had blocked joy for fear of disappointment. Many things recent year have without warning yanked me out of joy, which is highly unpleasant. I have spent my time instead desperately trying to predict future potential catastrophes a preventing them, which is more or less impossible. But that ambition and way of thinking has prevented joy, and turned my whole life into work and risk analysis .

I’ve been a huge fan of your meditations for many years now. Your work and practices have always helped me and guided me. But wow this one really hit me. I felt I was really able to isolate and understand my anxieties. This truly made my day. I will be coming back to this one a lot. Thank you so much. Truly.

My resistant part: I feel guilty and ashamed about the greater capacity for joy that I have since my husband moved out some 20 months ago. I’m grateful to this meditation for helping me recognize that. I practiced the meditation again this morning and engaged with my guilt & shame. Where we netted out was that shutting out joy now would in fact be the real betrayal of our past. Neither my husband nor I was happy in that marriage anymore. To move forward separately and yet still be unhappy would be a terrible testament to our 20 years together. And so really the best way to honor the memory of that marriage is to admit as much joy as possible moving forward.

everyone always needed me to be happy. it’s like i was shamed for not being happy. so a part of me doesn’t feel safe to be happy. because that means if my mood changes people will leave me. another part of me is offended that no one ever cared to ask why i wasn’t happy.
