thank you Jim - great catch on the features that really matter to me. I also like it now has stacked images and target images making organizing my images easier.
users over in the Facebook group are hung up on the gen fill stuff which is a no-go for me because of the resolution issues that every other product has including Photoshop and Lightroom Classic. I am glad you are seeing the value of what they added. And it is a solid release as I am having zero issues running it on my M1 Mac Mini 16GB.
Thanks Ed and yes the 3 tools I talk about here are good ones for sure and I see myself using them a lot. I'm not a big user of GenAI anyways, regardless of the product.
The one area I have found the gen ai tools (extend canvass) handy is when I've had a great flying bird shot, but the bird is just a bit too tight against the edge of the frame, and all I need is a little more sky. Very plain. Very simple. Nothing complicated. Just add a couple inches of sky. This has saved a couple of otherwise nice shots.
Thanks for this quick look at the latest On1 Photo Raw Jim. I'm sure there will be some deep dives from you. Only just down loaded my copy and having a look around it. The good thing is as one software comes upwith something new so the others are sure to follow. I think the generative AI and erase needs some testing as there are two methods, Local and Cloud requiring a paid account. Now with cable and dust spots removal, which are real time savers.
I just got my copy installed and haven't played with it yet. I will be soon. I look forward to you diving deeper into each tool and showing us some creative ways to use these new tools.
Your intro to the new features is solid, but I can't use this upgrade, as the hardware requirements are too demanding for my 5-months-old PC laptop. I've noticed a lot of graphic software programs are moving more heavily into AI which requires processing on their servers instead of just my computer. I admit I'm not happy about that. I don't want to have to be online to process a photo. I suppose it's inevitable that the industry goes down the AI rabbit hole to see just how deep they can get. I'll stick with ON1 RAW 2024 for now. It does everything I need (and a lot of the new features in this new release are already offered by Luminar Neo, so I'm not missing much. Yet :) ) But I'll continue to follow your videos, so I can keep tabs on what's happening in processing software. I enjoy them. 🙂
Thanks and yes but on my 4 year old Mac it's really slow (I am upgrading later this year) so it's been hard to do much with. I find that GenAI (generally speaking, in any app, not just On1) is an ok thing but never is it great or perfect.
Hi and you have to sign up with them and create an account, and they buy credits. I am not sure how much that costs though as I am not planning to do it.
Thanks for giving us a demo of the new features, Jim. I preordered 2025 photo raw back in September, but I still don't see it available for download. Do you know if they have different release schedules depending on where in the country you live?
Hi Geoff and I am not sure. You should be able to lob into your account and see it but not sure if it is rolled out, but by now it should be there. Your best bet is to email their support team.
Thanks Jim! Now if they would just fix the HDR functionality. Any attempts to use it with DNG files out of my Mavic 3 Pro saves as a hideous green file. I’ve brought it up with On1 but still an issue in 2025. Maybe by 2030 they’ll address it. 🤞
Struggling here at the moment Jim , my Mac is a 2015 model and as of now will no longer support major updates from Adobe , now thinking of shifting over to On 1 , but it seems it also needs the OS 13 or newer to run , as Im now 74 there is no way that I am going to upgrade to a new Mac , so it looks as though I am lumbered with Lightroom , any suggestions would be more than grateful , thank you , Phil
Hi Phil and yes all of these new apps are requiring more and more horsepower. I am on a 4 year old MacBook Pro and it is starting to really drag, especially with all the AI stuff. I am not sure what to suggest in your case. More RAM may help but I am not sure because the compute horsepower needs to be there too. Instead of buying new, you could look for a more recent model (M1 or M2 chipset) which I believe would still be much better than your 2015 model. Just a thought. Thanks for stopping by.
@@JimNix Hi Jim , thank you very much for taking the time to reply , I will certainly look into what you are suggesting , I have plenty of space for extra Ram , so that would not be a problem ,not being computer literate I am not familiar with the M1 or M2 chipset , but I will certainly look into that as well , if you were here in Scotland I would buy you a large one 🍹L.O.L. , thanks again , Phil
@@philpetrie the M1/M2/M3 chipsets are the Apple-designed chips which are more powerful and more efficient. They are much faster than Intel, according to everything I have read. That is all Apple sells now. I expect the M4 to come out on the MacBook Pro by end of year, which is what I am waiting on. But yes it is pricey for sure. I would love to be back in Scotland and would take you up on that! I love Scotland, it's a gorgeous country and Scottish is my favorite accent too. I even like Tennant's LOL.
@@JimNix Thank you Jim for the update , I have just decided to go with a upgrade on the Ram { from 8GB to 16GB } I know that won't solve the problem of not being able to update Lightroom O.S. etc. but it will help as much as I just want everything to run a wee bit faster , next time that you are in Scotland I would dearly love to meet up with you and show you a wee bit of my lovely coastline here , and nice Fish and Chips to end the day off Reg. Phil
Good question, and it depends. That's potentially a really long answer, but the short version is whether there are things you need to do to a photo that you cannot do in Luminar? And if so, what are they? Luminar has come a long way in two years.
Mr. Nix, just so you know that when I click your link to buy the on1 upgrade (current owner), it sends me to the on1 landing page. When I click the purchase button, it defaults to a code other than yours, i.e. earlybf (early black friday special). It is the same 20% discount for me, but does not credit you as a source of the sale. I have to manually delete the default code and enter your code. I don't know if this can be corrected, the programming may be daunting for On1 to redesign on their part.
Great stuff more sophisticated than Luminar Neo in some ways. Why is their Curves tool in filtres tab rather than develop tab it is the start point and the basis for an editing start point in your photo not a filter ? this is an odd decision and a stupid one. I also dont like the historgram as much as Luminar it is uninformative but On One looks as if they are improving things since i last owned it 5 years ago when the masks were terrible with loads of artifacts and their matadata and keywording entry functions were highly unreliable and kept dropping info or duplicating it at will so I delteed the program and went over to Acdsee .Nice job on the Video as always and will watch out for more vids on On One 2025 maybe try it again who knows but just resubscribed to Neo and don't need both. Watch out Luminar time to get serious with your catalogue functions and other tools which need alot of work!
Hi Mark and thanks and yes this product gets better and better each year for sure. I am not clear on why Curves is set up as a filter though. Thanks for watching!
I agree completely! Every version of ON1 I've tried has a serious bug in the thumbnail view: photos taken 2 stops apart (of the same scene, for possible merging) are made to look the same, and/or the colors are screwed up! And there are other problems as well.
@@JimNix Thanks for the reply, and I certainly didn't mean to pick on you, but I've completely erased all ON 1 files from my Mac at least twice, (including prefs. & hidden files), and then decided to give a new version another chance. So then, I do a clean install, and the same problems are back. I have a 2019 Mac Pro, and it was running Ventura the last time I tried. I have a paid license for the 2024 version, but am not inclined to pay for another upgrade. Luminar Neo gives me no trouble of any kind, and it keeps getting better. 😁
