The killer punch is revealing that the video is shot from kit lens. Its a subtle detail but added lot of value on why this video is created. Thank you.
If you call a death and boring flat look without any artistic involvement a punch then you are right. But it it`s definitely killer, it kills the pleasure in watching.
Hi @Kensei, The idea to film and upload this video with the kit lens totally shows how much confidence you have in your review about the kit lens and its performance. Nailed it.
When I bought my a7II it came with the 28-70mm kit lens. This is an excellent lens with good sharpness, it has OSS, and the build quality is fine. The most important thing is that it only cost CAD $200 more than the body only price. At current exchange rates CAD $200 is equal to USD $145, an amazing bargain, and excellent value! Why would you NOT get the kit lens with your camera for that kind of money?
The Tamron is f2.8 constant. It's light (can be even used on smaller gimbals like Ronin SC) has great image quality. All the advantages of pro lens without the problems of weight and size. only problem it's 28mm on wide end.
im just starting using sony system. i got bunch of fuji gears for my paid gigs. i decided to try sony a7 the original version because of the size and weight. i plan to use it for outdoor events. having 28 70 kit lens and 50 1.8 is more than enough to cover all that i need. having a light set up can make me last for a couple more hours to run and gun. the quality definitely is more than good enough. as long as it can get the job done and clients are happy i don't really mind using this kit lens for paid job.
If I was billing myself consulting hours for all the time I've spent trying to figure out what lens to buy, it would've been cheaper to just buy whatever G or GM lens was in range.
I bought the 28-70mm f3.5-5.6 for my ZV-E10 with plans to pick up a full-frame body with time. For the price it's pretty solid for what you're paying for, especially if you can snag one on the used market like I did. I'm definitely considering the Sigma after I pick up a full-frame body. The constant f2.8 would be pretty ideal since I'm a hybrid shooter. You did a fantastic job comparing the two lenses!
I bought a broken Sigma a few months ago with the intention to repair it eventually, and I finally pulled the trigger on the repair parts (even though I saved a lot of $$$ it’s still expensive 😅) after dealing with the frustrating problems of the kit lens, even though it’s been absolutely fantastic for me. But as any other lens dealing with a variable aperture is a PITA and the distortion is frustratingly extreme, in addition to just how soft the center of the image is. I’m glad I could have a few months with the kit lens to discipline myself with my mirrorless but I’m very excited to switch over.
Exactly the video I was looking for. Very helpful. I have the A7iii with the Kit lens and an 85mm f1.4 prime lens, but I want to buy a 24-70 f2.8 lens. My budget is not quite enough for a Sigma lens at the moment, but I am waiting for offers on the Tamron 28-75 G2 lens. Size & weight are big factors for me, since I don't like large and heavy lenses but at the same time, that 24mm vs 28mm thing is very hard to overlook. I feel like I will need that extra 4mm when I'm travelling. It's really difficult to choose. Size+Weight+Price vs Light+Compact+Cheaper -4mm
I know it’s not everyone’s favorite (mixed feelings with some of the reviews) but if your budget allows for a more budget friendly lens but gives you the opportunity to shoot with that until one day when you can get your hands on the better glass.
I’m thinking of getting a prime lens or a kit lens with Sony A7 iV - still making my mind up. Thank you for the amazing comparison video - it’s very helpful
I just bought a A7IV with the 28-70 kit lens, I did this because I didnt have the enough money to buy the 24-70mm, after saving a couple of bucks I will go for this one, Thank you for sharing this information.
People should really consider this being a really good lens for travelling. Because of course you're not going to use this as a studio lens, but the kit lens is great for travelling and for if you're equipment gets stolen, it's not a huge setback. Also the weight is important. When people trash this lens, they need to account for travelers who don't want to bring a 1k lens with them that is also very heavy and draws a lot of attention.
Great video, valid point to get one good lens for a more practical approach. My Sony A7 IV and Tamron 28-75 G2 is on the way :) I think it is a good start point for family pictures and indoor photography. Two question for you and the community: - How far do you push your ISO with a 2.8? - Thinking about the Tamron 70-300 for the outdoor activities? Any thoughts
Good choice! - Around 4000 with a noise reduction in post - I've never used it before so I honestly don't know, but that focal length is good for landscape and nature stuffs
Hey! Really cool content! Thank you! I am exactly in the point to buy a new camera and in doubt to buy w or without lens. Where these shots from your video made without gimble, all hand cam? Thanks!
thank you so much for making this content. I just ordered my Sony a6000 and I was looking for a lens, I believe Sony 28 to 70 mm would be the best choice for beginning.
In my point of view not much difference at simple landscaping view, but when it comes for portrait view there is a huge difference... With the kit lens you as the subject looks a little bit funny while on the Sigma you look like a super model or Hollywood's movie main character.
I was planning to buy Sony a7iii with Tamron 28-75mm, but that was going out of my budget. Now after watching your video i think kit lens will do my work. Thank you
I was looking for information about this kit lens and found your video, thank you. Also, isn't that kofu? Kofu in Yamanashi? Funny. A couple of years ago I lived there, such a wonderful place and took thousands of photos.
Hey Kensei. As of right now I can only afford the kit lens that comes with it, either the 28-70mm or 50mm prime with an A7IV. Do you think I should downgrade maybe to an APS-C camera like the A6600 and go for a better, fixed lens? I intend to shoot travelling, outdoor videos and shoot photos alongside with that.

Most of us car videographers that do rollers use RS or M gimbals so we prefer the sigma because of the weight

I have just purchased zv-e10 myself and I’m on the hunt for this lens. Video was very helpful
@XxIcedecknightxX The kit lens is adequate when you want to travel lightly!
