Some of my Experiences in Recovery

  • This video is one of my recovery video's. I talk a little about what my life was like before I got into recovery, previous rehabs, and when I went to betty ford.
Being able to share my recovery experience like this is truly one of the best parts of doing my TH-cam videos, and I want to try and put them out more often.
I hope this video finds everyone doing well out there.
    Never give up, never surrender.
And if no one has told you today, you're special, and I care about you.

What a relief that you decided that wasn't going to be your story. You took charge of your life and stopped grieving. That's a brave thing to do and now you are sharing it with us. I get a lot of use out of these videos, thank you Matt 💪🏻🤗🙏🏻🥰.

You are helping so many people by explaining your recovery. I’ve told you about my brother in the past and it took him three times in rehab for basically the same reasons as you. He went on to become a chaplain at the rehab center and continued on to be a Pastor helping recovering alcoholics and addicts. He would applaud your efforts. God bless you and keep you in His care.

New fan here. Thank you for sharing your journey. Im five years sober this month and I still have moments where I want to go to a liquor store. I needed alcohol to sleep. Started with a shot glass and at my worst it was an entire bottle of wine, every night, seven days a week. Hit rock bottom, tried to take myself out of lifes equation. Failed that but gained clarity. Been dealing with the core of my issue - childhood event and didnt realise that I had PTSD and still do.
Five years sober and I learned from you that its okay to be 'abstract' with the tools. Thank you.
    Much love and respect friend.

Praise God she is clean and sober and working like a mule! She's such a kind sweet person and will and has given the shirt off her back to anyone in need. She's awesome and I always knew that person in her. She is a Godly person and I would go to the end of the earth for her. This one goes into my Matt Brown folder; this folder has info that I need to hear more than once, more than twice. Matt, you DO have great qualities and more intelligent than what you give yourself credit for. The part about labels like lazy, messy etc was something I think all of us can relate to. 🌺👏 Thanks Matt

    • @iamtheroadwanderer
      @iamtheroadwanderer  ปีที่แล้ว +7

I didn't realize till Betty Ford, how I would apply negative labels to myself instinctively, like when I would do something and tell myself I was stupid or something like that, and how it was damaging to myself image. learning things like that helped so much in putting my life back on track. Little things like that are the things I find so interesting, and useful in life. thanks friend :)

Matt you are such a great speaker. Helpful advice that is coming from someone who has actually walked in the shoes of addiction, to me, is so much more powerful and helpful to others who are struggling. You can relate. You have been there. It makes my heart smile to know you are in a better place and are growing. Maybe it was written in the stars for you to have to go through your hard journey in order to come through the other side and be of help to others. Your sincerity shows through. You made me laugh when you were talking about not wanting to do the dishes..you know what’s even more daunting? Laundry!!! It never stops…lol..but seriously, We are Matt’s Tribe, and we are all here supporting you. Bless you always. sending a virtual hug!

Matt, I stumbled across this video at the perfect time… I needed to hear this. I’m an addict, and have hit a point where I can’t do basic things because I feel so overwhelmed I have totally shut down. Simple things that would take 5 minutes seem so extreme that I just can’t make myself do it, but I’ll set and freak out about it for days and suffer whatever consequences for not doing it, even at the sake of my family who depend on me. Then the depression comes because I know I done this to myself and can’t quit this, or do that, cause I keep failing over and over and feel I can’t win. This was so relatable that it gave me some hope, maybe… just maybe… I can eventually find me again and quit being a let down and failure. Much love man, hope you’re well.

Hi Matthew!👋 You make so much sense! So much of what you speak of applies to life recovery, as you have pointed out before. I am so happy for you that you have come to a point in your life where you can help others through your videos and experiences🤗. Hearing you speak is inspiring to me, my friend! like a breath of fresh air🌌! It takes so much courage, bravery and confidence to get to where you are and I'm proud/happy/excited/all the good and positive affirmations for you! I have suffered from worry/anxiety/bad bad depression for most my life. Everything you say applies to recovery from negative life experiences like you point out. I still struggle a lot with depression at times, but I'm also confident and have to use tools to sooth myself and get better when those things happen. Life is like a epic journey, not always positive, not always happy, but I feel like with positive people in our lives, who are for US, and with God's hands we can make a positive life for ourselves, and learn how to deflect the bad or sad things in life. I hope that makes sense🤗! Many blessings to you my friend, I really appreciate you and your videos! God bless you, my friend! -Lisa 🌸from the Palmetto State 🌴🤗✝️✝️

As for experience I recognize what you say, Addicts can only cure when THEY WANT TO DO SO! Congratulation for finally have taken the decision! Unasked advice... What you need know ( And you might already have it) is "Purpose" in life, once you have it you will recover your self worth (even more than you think you had) Then comes the hard part but the most rewarding... Mending broken ties!
It might sound not sound too appealing right now but "Family" is what at the end... is all we really truly have! Keep healing and getting better my friend Matt.

Im in a pretty scary place right now re addiction to Opioids & other pain meds due to awaiting spinal surgery & I know how tough its going to be to hopefully get off them when Im done . Wow Melody, you are exactly where I was almost 8 months ago. I know how you feel! My spine surgery was on Dec 1st. The pain meds didn't really help the pain...it did other things to take my mind off the pain...it wasn't good, after taking it for a while it was like my brain needed it to function at times...it wasn't good at all. It was a slow process after the surgery to recover...man though that back pain is truly awful, I spent my days in tears and unable to move. its hard to talk about. Addiction doesn't judge..that's for sure. Many blessings to you Melody! I get you! 💕💕

Hi Matt. Nice to see you on yt! It is really nice meeting "you", the new and improved you, on here. Congratulations on your sobriety and congratulations on finding yourself. Indeed, youve had a very long, lonely, painful journey. Im so impressed of how far youve come. Prior to finding you had a yt channel, I had been watching all of you and your family - Alaska Bush People videos, one after the next, the prior two weeks. In those videos I saw a man who had a very tough home life. Not everyone could have overcome all you went through and experienced, as a child, a young adult and man. You are that one percent - who are successful in overcoming your addictions and the past, and - successful in finding the real you, the person you deserve to be and were meant to be all along. And your living the new life that you deserve, finding that inner peace, the love, the joy, happiness, just being your own unique self! And allowing yourself to appreciate YOU, AND who you are NOW. Seemed you were often judged, in your life as the oldest child, and that's very tough and unfair on any person. Agree with you, your environment in those times was very harsh. I don't know how you overcame it all, but I am so glad and thsnkful that you have and will continue to grow and move forward in a much more positive light and path. I'm older than your momma, but younger than your da was, so I'm in between their two ages. I believe your da is smiling for you, and yes, I believe he see's you, hears you, and he is so proud of you, and he gets it, now. You've come so very far, got the help you so desperately needed, wanted and - look at you now! You're the person and man any father would be so incredibly proud of. It's true. I'm proud of you and so many including others on your channel are proud of you. I'm glad you are sharing the new you - on here. You are a breath of fresh air, really. You have such a good heart, and soul, and it shows. Thank you. Best wishes! And Merry Christmas!

    Hi Matt 🙋‍♀️
This is my second attempt to comment (the other one got lost in a dark hole 😅🙈🙄)
This is wonderful recovery video 👍👏 It's been a while, however they are always welcome 🤗 I can identify with so much of what you said :) I went to rehab just once and it was to please other people 🙄 I was aware my life was unmanageable, and why. I just didn't think rehab was the answer🤷‍♀️🤔 I did my 30 days and all I really got from my stay was that I was NOT TO DRINK 🚫🤷‍♀️ We were never taught the psychology of addiction or given any life tools to use 🙈 Looking back, it was just a quick fix rehab ( speedy and effortless)! Not being prepared for life OUTSIDE rehab, I relapsed after a year 🙁 Luckily, I had one thing that kept me going, GETTING BACK UP 🆙⬆️ I could have stayed down having my "pitty party" 🤷‍♀️ If I had, I wonder where I would be now 🤔 Not in a good place I think 😔 My life was taking a nose dive also 🛩 🔥
Your trip to Betty Ford not only saved you, but many others, like me!! 🙏 Your experience, tools and showing me HOW in a relatable way, gave me HOPE :) I had been relapsing and getting sober for SO LONG it felt like a circle of failure ⭕ 🙈 "Will this EVER STOP🤦‍♀️" Now, after 1 year, 4 months and 24 days, I can BE PROUD of how far I've come 💪☺️ I've taken your tools 🧰⚒ that work for me and discovered new tools that work also! 🎶🎤 I'm aware of my triggers, avoid situations that are not healthy for my recovery (people, places & things) 🛑 For me, things are difficult living a life that's unpredictable and stressful 🤦‍♀️😱😳 Having adapted the tools, changing my thinking and constantly repeating what works, my life is managable 🙏 It's a constant work in progress, however using what works for me makes this journey less daunting 🙌💪 Taking baby steps every day 👣 and as you said "nailing down one little thing at a time" is the way forward for me 🔨 I've said this before AND I'll say it again 😊 Thank you for showing me the way and walking along this journey called life 🤜🤛✌️ Kudos to you 😊✌️👊
    Take care Matt 👋
    Your friend, Yvonne 🍀 J.3.16 🐑

Matt you are so inspiring and I appreciate you sharing what you've learned along the way. When you talked about fast forwarding through the day it hit home hard for me although I don't drink or use drugs. I do mentally shut off and find mindless things to occupy myself and I smoke way too many cigarettes because I know when I'm smoking nobody will be around. I disgust myself. And I'm an about to be 58 year old woman. You make me feel lije there is hope to be a better person which I try to do every day. I feel like I fail most days and I'm grateful for God's mercy and forgiveness and remind myself daily that He does indeed love me too. Thank you for sharing friend. J 3:16

So proud of how you are doing now and that you continue to work on things and improve. It's not easy changing and facing our issues, it is painful and people who have not been through that don't understand. It hurts to have people, and especially family, when they keep seeing us through a lens of past mistakes instead of where we are today. Keep remembering you are precious in God's sight and He has a great purpose for your life. God Bless

Hey Matt as usual huge huge fan sad i felt so badly for you when you had this excitement to play santa claus for your nieces and nephews and that you weren't allowed to see or be around them and when i watched you sitting on a log at your old campsite after leaving CA i felt your pain when you said " changing and growing hurts " and trust me i know exactly what your feeling but the loss of your dad, and seems your siblings for maybe we all dont know what all went down some of it we know but only you and they and mom and dad know what hurt me for you is that family regardless under the drug and alcohol addiction makes people unlike who they really are the whole process needs support were all your family here and so glad not only that you have used your video education in your video's their all amazing i love the mountain i feel your excitement in the cabin searching on adventures , when we listen to you opening up about being in love for well other channels say who she was and that it was unhealthy i only hope your relationships are personal we all have those relationships that are not healthy but you said how much you loved her and how unchildish she was but it upset me because i want to hear trust and believe your Faith in GOD, and trust is a huge part when your using this platform to share about addiction and lessons being used from Betty Ford i guess parts of your past will remain in your personal heart storage , but if what im hearing is true i pray that you go foward now and only allow those who are healthy for you in all area's even with your love heart to keep going foward Matt your touching so many people thank god i have never had to deal with such a horrible walk but i am glad that i can deal with your recovery trustworthy journey there will be many other woman who are on your Godly walk that are healthy keep choosing new friendships carefully you earned it i want to take everything you share with us as truth.. And i do hope that that one special woman comes into your life to love you God has your back .... proud of you Matt, keep being strong and a positive leader. and i pray that your family believes in your growth soon true love should regardless have your back i know we do
