  • This is the most effort I've ever put into a video, so strap in. In preparation for Disney's live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, I did a marathon of every single Disney live-action remake of their classic animated films. So I'm gonna talk about them.

41:35 Lol I really hate Jafar in the live action too, and not in a good way. The actor is very basic. The Jafar in the animation is sinister, dark, in fact evil, sociopathic and narcissistic, and this actor didn't transmit even a quarter of that. He just looked like a spoiled brat wanting the throne no matter what. Aladdin is indeed one of the best live-action films, but Jafar does ruin it quite a bit.

The majority of the critics praised the TLM remake. Even there some say they may not like it but the soundtrack and some scenes did good and did better than Lion King live action. I can't wait to see it.

The fact that it has managed to stay fresh on RT ( 66%) for so long is a rare feat considering how a lot of them have been rated rotten. Compare that to The Lion King's 52% or Aladdin's 57%

One of my biggest issues with TLM is that Eric's involvement feels disjointed in the story: making him adopted felt like a weird thing to throw in there, especially for a monarch, and his relationship with his mother felt weak and undermined his maturity in the original film. I would've liked them highlighting the pressures he felt as a young man with no parents and having to oversee a kingdom--something Ariel, as the youngest child, never had to consider. Plus Ursula's death in the remake robbed Eric of his biggest moment. Even Jasmine and Shang went toe-to-toe with the villains for a second in the original films (of course, the remake of Mulan changed a bunch of stuff, sadly).
Honestly it makes me wanna read the "Prince of Song and Sea" novel about him that came out last year just to see if that does him justice.

Cruella being "born" with black and white hair is kind of the same as Maleficent being born with the name "Maleficent" even though she was born "good" like ???? Even though I liked the two films, and both being one of the "least worst" live-actions, for me these creative decisions were very dumb, it shows a lot of lack of creativity, they should have created another reason for these elements.

I love the idea of Cruella being born with heterochromic hair, but I agree it doesn't make sense in the real world; I'd have rathered if it was originally red hair and the black and white was a wig.
And even though "Maleficent" is a play on "Malevolent," it still sounds like a fairytale-esque name--though I could see the name being based on the other creatures assuming she was evil.

One thing I really like about Maleficent remake is the true love's kiss. It makes no sense that a boy Aurora met once is her true love and they corrected that in this movie very well. It's a cool twist and rounds up the story. I think the movie itself is great when you separate it from the original because Maleficent is so different

Ever After is the best Cinderella film! It does the whole "make Cinderella a feminist" thing superbly while making her a flawed human being! I'd rate this film 2nd, then the "97 musical, followed by the 1950 Disney version. The Slipper and The Rose goes fifth! Those are my top five Cinderella Adaptations!

They could've blended the Public domain version with the Iconic Disney version to create something similar to the 2014 Belle Et La Bete, a remake of Jean Cocteau's iconic film!

Nice video! Pinocchio and Peter and Wendy were the last straw for me. Extremely bad and mediocre. Mainly because they were Disney+ originals, Disney is putting the least amount of budget and effort into the Disney+ original releases, the theatrical releases still have some hope (lets hope for The Little Mermaid 😖🤞🏻). Honestly, if Disney continues with these bad remakes we fans have to do something, petition on Change or something, for them to stop lol 😂

I'm fine with Disney making remakes of films from the bronze era and before, as you can add development and layers to the story and characters, as well as removing harmful stereotypes. Because of this, I'm disappointed with Maleficent (and Maleficent 2) being made instead of a Sleeping Beauty remake that properly develops the two leads. I didn't mind Cruella, though--but I wish they had been a bit more, ahem, *violent* with it (with no animals or people actually harmed in the making of the production).

I honestly prefer the live action Alice in Wonderland to the original which I didn't really care too much about cause I didn't watch it that much

I appreciate AiW was a sequel rather than a direcr remake. You can't sucessfully do that with every film.

  • @luiiiandmovieee

I get your points on Alice in Wonderland but I actually like the movie very much. Maybe the change in style is because Alice is older and we see Wonderland through her perspective. When she was a child she saw Wonderland as a colorful light-hearted place and now that she's older she realizes it's not as happy or perfect as she viewed it before. I really don't know if that's the reason, maybe they just wanted more gothic vibes

I love 101 dalmatians (1996) its the only one i prefer a lot more than the animated one which i always found boring. The other ones i dont give a crap about sorry.

      @Rozziefeatherschneider 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Right. I wouldn't even consider 101 dalmatian a remake or reboot, it was something totally different from the original while still staying true to the original. The other live actions were garbage.

I have always been super hard on live action Aladdin but I didn't mind it when I saw it still it lacks the expressiveness of the original oh man they did the cave of wonders real dirty and jasmine as well could've gotten an actually classic Disney I want song in nstead of the generic pop trash they gave her that didn't fit the setting at all all

I don't get the choice to have Rodger be a game developer instead of a musician that choice made zero sense to me and completely out of character for Rodger I could've seen him portray an actor or novelist maybe or even an animator would've made more sense I did like that version though.

44:39 I HATE THIS SONG TOO, gosh. It's terribly bad. It is an offense to Disney's entire history and legacy of beautiful, melodic and memorable songs. Couldn't they just rewrite The Siamese Cat Song?? Why not. As this new song itself says, what a shame!

why the dig at white people for helping create mulan? and why complain that that naomi scott isn’t “colored enough” to play jasmine when her heritage is part indian, but you’re totally okay with them changing ariel’s race altogether. i think halle bailey was perfect for that role, my point is not to say she shouldn’t be ariel, it is to call out the hypocrisy in your statements. i think if they are right for the role and bring the essence of the character THEN LET THEM PLAY THE CHARACTER! (except emma watson as belle, that one should have stayed in the drafts)

The difference is jasmines race is part of her Ariel isn’t and what he means is if they don’t want to offend anyone don’t get a white director get a Chinese one
