Excellent Job Mate , you got it ! Not all that bad aye ? And it looks like you can't go wrong with those timing marks.. nice. Enfield should have should have stayed with the grey rubber rocker cover gaskets, like on the UCE's. They held their shape much better. And I'm thinking , one could replace that crimped on stock fuel line clamp with a screw clamp.... On the top of that hose coming up from the the injectors. And just undo it, much easier there, right under the tank. OR... if you freeze frame your Video at the 3:21 mark. You will see a black connector with a grey rectangular center. I bet that grey center is a clamp that can be pried out, and then the black connector would be pushed in and then pulled right off the pub. Making it much easier to remove the tank...

Hi. Just done 300mile service. Tappets were ok and straightforward. All were tight except right cylinder inlet which, was bang on. Not too awkward getting tank off and on but the tappet cover is a swine. Got it first go but used plenty grease to hold gasket in place. Just been out and runs fine with no leaks. Thanks for the pointers 👍
Good job. Seen lots videos on this but yours is very in depth re the fuel tank connections. Very useful. Just picked me interceptor this week so a bit of time to go before I have to do this.
when you get to this stage-take your time and don't rush it. I wouldn't say it was easy to get those fuel lines off first hit but once you have an idea its much easier. I won't have to go there again till another 4,000 klm ...lol all the best.
Thanks from the U.S.A. for the tips on getting the rocker cover back on. Definitely the worst part of the whole service, but better than waiting a month to get an appointment at the dealer. The tank wasn't too bad after I got some (reluctant) help from my wife.
You saved my bacon today with the grease trick, Warro! I was tearing my hair out after trying to fit the valve cover dry. With the grease, I got it the first time. I've noticed in various videos about tappet adjustment, no one is shown using a screwdriver on the inboard screws. I used my thumbnail myself, and wonder if I have company in using this technique. Greetings from the USA! Not a lot of REs here, but they are catching on. I've encountered many admirers, including a construction flagman who stopped me the other day to ask about it. My dealer did not return three calls from me last week trying to schedule first service. I think they are buried in demand.
The videos I've watch on this, they put that dreaded gasket onto the head not the cover. They didnt seem to have any dramas getting the cover back in place. Good video mate!
yeah these are pretty old 4 year clips and in 019 not many knew what they could do or how to do it. on my latest 350 reborns i sit the cover on the head and move it around till it slides in position
Hi. Nice video. A couple of comments. There’s no need for the grease on the gasket. It seals fine without it. Also, even though the factory glued the half moon rubber into the head, there’s no need. It won’t leak. I suspect it has more to do with their assembly technique. I found 3-M spray adhesive applied to the cover and the gasket did an amazing job. Just follow the instructions and let the glue dry before joining the parts and make sure everything is set before reassembly. You mentioned your failed attempts but don’t say what the problem was.
thanks i actually tried a dry fit with the gasket but couldn't line it up as it kept failing out...lol a bit frustrating after a few attempt so in the end tried the grease idea. that 3m spray adhesive sounds pretty good. it might be handy to grad a can myself. any particular one to look for. thanks
Great video the gasket is sealed at that point with a sealant from the factory, I had the same issue and resealed when I put back. Really tight between cam cover and frame isn’t it.

Nice work Warro and good camera work to go with it. I also found the gasket frustrating and keen to try the 3M spray glue next time. So I lifted the tank but didnt take it off, so didnt therefore raise the ABS unit. I left the gasket in place but it still collapsed in on me, mainly back edge which I also finally held with a couple of grease blobs. With the 4 bolts removed from the 'rockerbox' cover, I lifted each corner to get to the tappets. You cant put the screwdriver in vertical but a small screwdriver sideways done the trick. As you say they are just nipped up. Hope this helps if you decide to do it again yourself. Great video and thanks for sharing mate.
well i'd say looking back the exercise was interesting to say the least...lol not sure if i'd like to try it again but the 3m spray idea would sure help a lot to some-one interested in trying. getting that high pressure hose off was some challenge -so too getting that gasket back on. I think if I ever had to do it again i'd pre-order another gasket just in case...lol bit surprised my plugs were not really tight either. just no more than bedded up..

Mate a couple of more times at doing it and you will be right ,i have never taken my bikes to a dealer for servicing and you've proved to yourself you can do it think what goodies you could buy with the 200 dollars a service will probably cost you .
true. the worst part for me is the 3 hour drive either way to the dealer plus the waiting time to do the job too. so add the gas and food and the wife shopping...not a cheap day...lol

For people having issues with the gasket.. You need to remove the valve cover and gasket completely then when your done fit the gasket back into the grooves on the cover and fit it through the gap and back on. If you apply the gasket first, you'll never fit it directly back into the grooves on the cover, too hard to see.
Nice clear pics. I'm finally getting comfortable working on my REH.. pretty simple. Am considering buying an Int.. but adjusting 8 valves plus my thumper's 2, I start thinking.. do I really need another bike. lol

I think next check on the tappets is at 6000 klm. since its been done its running fairly well so all good there. did the oil/filter change too so that's out of the way too.
That gasket is an absolute b£$>&*d! I'm sort of glad most people find it as difficult as I did today. Another thing to be careful with, the plug for the fuel pump needs to be connected back up exactly square. I managed to bend one pin, by being careless, and the bike would not start. Tank off again to straighten the bent pin, not recommended, take care with that plug people, the one for the fuel sender is much more robust.
no! it was only about a quarter full but it would be too heavy to lift if full plus the chance of the tank weight being off balance and you drop the tank. if i had a full tank i'd just used a bit of garden hose and do a mouth drain or buy a pump from the local auto store to do the job it would be far better to drop the gas.happy to hear you enjoyed the clip

Only just purchased my bike and was concerned about the valve train noise, a lot of people are apparently , your video helped ease my mind as seeing the arrangement of tappet it will always have a certain amount, once again thanx.
@@paulwatson2961 what i'd do is take notice of how the bikes running now and when the time comes-ask yourself has it slowed down from the initial first ride o is it better if its better i'd think should i touch it but if it feels slower -you have no choice
never broke mine and if one is heavy handed I guess he shouldn't be doing it in the first place and the best bet would be to take it back to the bike shop

i suppose you could use a small mirror to get a better look at it and that might work. getting that gasket back on is the main problem and i must admit i did have more than one go....lol
pretty good question really. you'd think some-one who really know motorcycle motors could pick tdc without the guide marks. like using the valve opening and piston location but others have removed and I decided to do too. pretty hard to get it out too and lucky I used the heavy grease or i'd been in trouble getting it back in....lol thanks for taking a look

Professional mechanics always find short cuts to save time, but I've found that the short cuts can take extra skills and/or tools in order to work. And some of those "professional short cuts" can eventually break parts. :-(
Hi Warro great video. Yes i am a bit confused too. Workshop manual page 92 says dont rotate crank anti clockwise? Most bikes i have owned always say to adjust tappets rotate crank clockwise? Cheers Ian
i think it has something to do if that rotation nut inside the case comes off. thats what i have heard. not that i would know as i was flat out doing it anyway....lol i actually turned the key on the 650 today and pressed the starter. first time in weeks....instant starter. just got those front fork spacers from the uk too. i might drop them in and test them
Did you encounter engine noise at low rpm while cruising at 30 to 40 km/hr in ur interceptor? Might be it was normal but I was so worried therefore I asked the RE machanic in my very first service to check for the valve for tappet adjustment (if any issue is there) They checked and gave me and it was all okay and still same as before. I bought the interceptor on 20/02/20. Will checking for valves (opening the upper cap of the engine) will cause any major issues or performance in future....?
you might be hearing the whistling from the cams-they do make some noise down low especially on down changes as you come to a stop. saying that though if I were you and you have had the bike checked out-just jump on and ride. these bikes are pretty well trouble free compared to some of the other enfields. enjoy your wheels
Is it ok if i ride my interceptor for few hundred kms with the tappet noise,as i am out on a ride with my bike,i can do the adjustments only after reaching home
@@faizanbadshah4698 that only indicates they are a bit loose now so all good and ride on. its when they are tight and it actually slows the bike down in the performance side. thats when you are more likely to strike a problem. loose is fine but if tight -do check asap!
@@faizanbadshah4698 that could depend upon what gear your in and how fast your goings as a rule the interceptor is a very nice quiet bike to ride. if you were on a classic 500 -i'd say lifter noise but liaid earlier these bikes are as a rule -pretty well built

For people having issues with the gasket..
You need to remove the valve cover and gasket completely then when your done fit the gasket back into the grooves on the cover and fit it through the gap and back on. If you apply the gasket first, you'll never fit it directly back into the grooves on the cover, too hard to see.

Why did you have to remove the gasket? The tapped adjustment hardware was far enough above the gasket joint.

I've been facing the same but that's like a rattle sound, which goes away as I raise the rpms above 2.5k

i think if the bike is performing well i don't think it will hurt at all. so go for it.

What kind of grease did you use?
on this bike just normal grease on the other enfields i decided to use permatex gasket maker in the black
