Journalist used to be the good-guys because if their investigation required them to report something that disagreed with whatever their thesis was... they valued being trustworthy enough to report accurately as a goal of their profession (and left making a thesis to people in some other professions where it is not a game to boosts ones ego as in a fantasy football league) It seems like it may be impossible to completely un-ring the bell of the hybrid-news animal out there now, but Shapiro related coverage seems to be doing a better job of bringing back the accountability and integrity that used to inform a democracy/republic ( it being axiomatic that a democracy/republic stands or falls to the degree that it has well-educated citizens and a free-press that takes seriously the duty it has not to misinform the citizenry, yes?
