  • 2017 Suzuki Ignis is slightly larger than Fiat Panda and Volkswagen up!, but it’s a matter of centimetres. First generation Ignis was in production in early 21st century. Back then it was something like a small crossover. Suzuki was too early with the product, because today Ignis would have been a hit, like Vitara or SX4. But since Suzuki now has a B and C crossover in its range, what does it need the most? Of course, an A-crossover. If there is such a thing. If you want to compare Suzuki Ignis to something, it would probably be a Fiat Panda 4x4 or Panda Cross. There’s a lot of accessories to make this miniature Jeep Renegade look more off-roady. And to match the off-road looks, Ignis can be ordered with AllGrip AWD system.
    Starting price: 12 000 euro

    A good honest review. I know I bought one. Four grip copes with farm tracks and wet fields fine. Hybrid system doesn't seem to do much most of the time except on country roads with rolling hills where the energy saved on the downhills helps haul you up the uphills. Fuel consumption a steady 60 mpg. On road it's definitely not quick but far better than the Jimny it has replaced. Steering is slow. Anti collision is a pain but l'm learning to ignore it and it may save me from a bump one day. I actually quite like the looks. Road tax was low in the U.K. before the recent hike. I fortunately got in just before. All in all a sensible choice and may we have a long relationship. A City car for those living out in the sticks.

    Great review Marek, especially love the drone footage from your 'secret off road test facility'. Like it or loathe it, you've got to had it to Suzuki for being innovative. Personally I like the fact that it dares to be different. Love to see you driving this on your next road trip, whenever that may be.

      Yeah the rear is ugly, even uglier than the brutwurst whell bmw i3 at least that is chunkyer. This is even thicnner upwards. Weird, and unfortunately the interior is also too narrow. Excet perfect transportable, low fuel economy city car. that can go little bit off road

    Your review was very critical and good. Definitely this is not a family car. It can be an outing car for nearby places. Definitely an SUV stance car but I feel the interior cabin appears to be very small.
    Thanks to you for bringing up the critical review for Dual Camera brake system. Owing to the city car that system can be irritating for the person in a hurry.

    In Serbia (and as I understand - in most European countries, if not all) only the cheapest version is 5 seater!?! If anyone wants to combine Allgrip 4x4 system with 5 seats - it's not possible?! This is nothing short of IDIOTIC solution! And one tiny detail on top of it: only the top range version has got a mirror on the passenger side sun visor - I had it even in my ancient Yugo 45 from 1989, and of course in my Hyundai Atos Prime from 2001 (by the way, imported from Poland! )! And it is used quite, when my darling puts make up in the morning on our way to the school where we work. Unbelievable that such a cheap thing is absent from lower packages models! By the way, I think that I've seen in a video on TH-cam that for South African market Allgrip model DOES have three safety belts on the back seat, but the middle one is not a three-point version. :)

    Do you know anything about the mild hybrid? I heard that there's 2kind of engines, one regular petrol and one that's kind of a hybrid.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I discussed it in my Baleno review. It's more expensive, but doesn't really achieve anything.

    • @HastPhotography
      @HastPhotography 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marek Drives yeah that's what I have heard also, maybe not when you have to pay for it as a new car, but when the car is 2years old maybe the hybrid make sense on the used market, I can imagine that the price of used Ignis with and without hybrid will be about the same. Can you get the hybrid with awd?

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Björn Hast not sure. In Poland SVHS comes only on top trim FWD, which costs as much, as a top spec non-hybrid AllGrip. Since it's got the same power, doesn't improve CO2 emissions by much, and it is only a mild hybrid, nobody (including Suzuki representatives) has a clue why bother :-)

    • @HastPhotography
      @HastPhotography 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marek Drives do you think it's possible to get dodge congestion charges which some big cities have nowadays with the mild hybrid? Probably not, I guess it only looks good on paper ☺️

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Boosterjet is their turbo engine. I don't think it needs more power. In this type of car reliability is what counts, and AFAIR Suzuki is relatively new to turbo engines.

    Is there any car like this, that is around the weight of this but a little bit bigger and maybe more powerful?

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it's bigger, it's going to be heavier. More power usually (not always, but usually) implies a bigger engine, hence more weight. And you need stronger components, so it's going to be even heavier. Short answer - no. But you can tune this.

    • @k.o.t.o.n.
      @k.o.t.o.n. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MarekDrives Thanks I love very much this Ignis. But it laks power, and if it would be the length of the swift it would be perfect. I want to find a car under 1 tonne, but with the size of an i3, a little bit capable off road, but big in headroom, and wilder interior than the ignis, if the i3 would be an suv with petrol engine, so less weight it would be perfect. I haven't find a car like this. Closest is Hyundai Bayon or Kia Stonic, but still too heavy. Can you recommend anything? With at least a 100hp? And under 1 tonne?

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Back in they day there was an AWD Swift in the last generation. Apparently there is one in this generation as well, but probably not in Europe.

    • @k.o.t.o.n.
      @k.o.t.o.n. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MarekDrives YEAH. Thankx for the reccomandation. But the swift has less headroom, and that is important for me. I don't need awd because it's weight i need ground clearance, big headroom, wider body, little bit bigger legroom, but don't need much more, and all being as light as possible. I would transport it in an l5 ford transit single cab chassis cab, coverted into a motorhome. So weight is the most imortant. Suzuki is great because it's operates with light cheap materials, at least with the swift and the ignis, the Vitara is too heavy...

    • @MarekDrives

    • @nikosbays8766
      @nikosbays8766 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marek Drives thanks for answer,I like small cars and I like cars that are a little different, twingo is a rear engine rear drive,Ignis is a mini 4x4 SUV, I know that maybe i10 or UP might be the best in that size, but when I look at them I see some boring cars. so I don't know I was thinking one of these 2, similar price tag, spacious for their size and with unique styling

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Twingo's RWD doesn't really matter, because you can't turn off traction control. Moreover there's extra heat in the boot, so I wouldn't want to store my groceries there. On the other hand I had a blast in the Ignis. It's a really fun little car, and it can do some light offroading as well.

    I suppose I can outdrive this reviewer with my Ignis and him driving a Lamborghini. 0-60 mph is easily done in under 12s and NOT a week as claimed. Horses for courses! This is an economical, reliable, daily driven city car. I missed the hard plastic scratch test. We all know by now that leather and walnut interiors are common these days in budget, micro cars and hard plastic simply looks way too 80s. Forget that car and buy a VW UP. The 200 Euro Smartphone holder may prevent you from any distractions otherwise experienced.

What is the target audience for this thing i wonder, young women are not going to buy it but take Fiat 500 instead and young guys certainly won't. And the looks certainly won't appeal to the 60+ crowd either.

I hate already that more or less all modern cars beep when I haven't fastened my seat belt, e.g. when I drive just on parking places or privat areas...

    The choice of engines (co2 values) make this car expensive in the Netherlands. Base price of 14.500, whereas a base Celerio starts at 10.700. 14.500 even gets you a top-specced VW Up! but I guess that's just because VW is better in generating fake CO2 norm values.

      What about SHVS engine in the Netherlands? I know it doesn't make a difference in London.

      with shvs it starts at 18000, so no advantage there. the ignis 4x4 is 3000 euro cheaper than the panda 4x4 though, so all 3 dutch people looking for a tiny 4x4 can rejoice :) It's cool that it exists, daihatsu and subaru already stopped selling tiny 4x4s in europe.
