    Great video, as always. I don't usually comment on your videos, but I watch them all. Funny you've mentioned you feel the San Martin case is a bit like a brick. I had the same feeling with a Tandorio with California dial that I had. Ended up selling it. I have the same Cadisen you've shown and I like it, though it also wears a bit thick. Yesterday I received a Merkur watch and I must say I'm loving it. It clearly is one of the best cheap Chinese brands available. Cheers!

    I didn't anticipate how much I would enjoy the Militado ML05 but I haven't been able to take it off my wrist since I bought it 6 months ago. Just an amazing and comfortable watch that goes with just about any strap you throw it on. I put it on a leather bund strap and was blown away. It also just works so perfect with a single pass NATO. Nowadays you can pick this watch up for around $50 USD so just amazing value for the money.

      true. It is one of those watches that I have difficult time moving on, because I have to make other reviews.. It is just sitting in the box, waiting for me now. If that bronze San Martin would have VH31 or whatever else quartz movement I would buy it. As a mechanical I don't want it, too many hassle.
    Militado is the current No.1. classic field watch maker. And I so much love they are making every watch with quartz movement instead of hasty mechanicals/automatics. A decent quartz movement is a the best for every day usage. So much hassle free. You set the time twice a year - summer/winter daylight saving time - and that is all!
    You should check out - but maybe already know the model range - ML05 blue version, ML08 "Murph" version and green version (with red strap it looks like a Christmas time colors, like the holly on the table top), ML07 with cream dial (there is both K1 mineral and sapphire glass version, and it has a push-pull crown).
    Rdunae is the No.2. classic field watch makers. Only No.2. for 2 reasons: they have much less models and their models only have 50meters of water resistance. But, I have f*ckin' thin wrists and the RA03 with 34,5mm case diameter and about 41-42mm of lug to lug is just the my size! Perfect!

    I have the ML-05 for a couple of months and i love it. The VH31 is very accurate and hasnt missed a minute the 2 months i own it. I wished they made a bigger version like a 40-42mm cause it is kinda small on my wrist. I've recently put a velcro strap from Ali which is thicker so it looks a little more substancial.

    I'm glad you mentioned about the AR coating. I am on the fence about this watch and the way the dial looked on camera, I was not impressed. My current standard for lume and AR coated sapphire in an affordable watch is the Addiesdive MY-H2S "Pilot" watch. I'm surprised you didn't include that one in this review, as I think you have one and it is a direct competitor to the Militado ML05 and seems to have far superior lume and AR coating, which are both important for a military-style watch. I do like the VH31 movement and always look for watches using it. I want Addiesdive to put the VH31 into the MY-H2S case, with the same lume and AR coating; that would be a perfect everyday watch. When they do that, they don't need to put a bracelet on it. These military watches don't belong on a fancy bracelet. I've never worn the one that came on mine. I have it on a black tropical and it's comfortable, waterproof, and gorgeous.

    Thomas, I wanted to raise a concern that I haven't seen discussed anywhere on the Internet. I know you like the symmetry of a no-date watch dial, but, in my opinion, competent, modern field watches must have (at least) a date complication and a day-date complication is even better. When away from civilization it is easy to lose track of the day and date. This could be crucial if you are supposed to meet someone for resupply or extraction (for example). Some might argue that this information can be retrieved from a cell phone, but then so can the time and cell phones are notorious for their short battery life. In my opinion the Militado doesn't qualify as a competent, modern, field watch unless "field" means an afternoon hike. For military use, a date complication is also necessary as cell phones are detectable and targetable, as countless terrorists have discovered to their regret. Since I'm on the subject of field watch requirements, I believe field watches should also be quartz, since quartz movements are more rugged and it would be impossible to recover the time and date if the watch were to run down in the backcountry.

    • @TomasWatchReviews
      @TomasWatchReviews  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      well, yea, but this is just a toy :) Good quality toy :) It has only one purpose, make you happy while sitting on your wrist..

    • @HappyGuy11
      @HappyGuy11 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TomasWatchReviews Really? I thought that we (the watch community) had decided that "field watches" were the last real tool watches and that complications like date were desirable for their usefulness. I have a beautiful Explorer homage, which I wear as a nice-casual watch, but I don't consider it a competent, modern field watch, because it lacks a date complication. Likewise my favorite MY-H2S is ok for everyday, but not for the field, because it is an automatic and, hence, not to be trusted in terms of accuracy or reliability. I guess I'm a "hard grader" but there are so many competent, modern, quartz field watches, with date complication, ruggedness, and superb accuracy, that there isn't any reason to compromise when you're off the grid and really depending on your watch.

    • @TomasWatchReviews
      @TomasWatchReviews  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@HappyGuy11 well, in my opinion a real "field watch" is a gshock.. Something like 5610u. That thing is not gonna leave you timeless :D

    • @HappyGuy11
      @HappyGuy11 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TomasWatchReviews Yes, that one is very sturdy and meets all the "field watch" requirements. Since I prefer the vibe of an analogue field watch, I compromise and wear a quartz 3-hander with traditional looks, a sapphire crystal, date complication, and decent water resistance, but I always have a Casio W800H in my pack in case the going gets really tough, something happens to the watch on my wrist, or the lume of the analogue watch is insufficient for night use (which is common in affordable watches). This is also my approach for travel, since the requirements of a travel watch are similar to those of a field watch in my experience. In addition a stylish field watch on a leather or tropical strap is dressy enough for dinner out, whereas a G-Shock may look a little out of place in that environment.

    • @nono-jj4yv
      @nono-jj4yv 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Nice review video as always. I also have this watch but with the black pvd case model. At first, I don't really like it because the dial lacks the sharpness, it looks cheap (because it is cheap lol). Also I hate nato strap. However, I got a certain military green 2 piece canvas strap and it completely transforms the overall look of this watch and I love it.
