Judy Kuhn, to me, is still the best Pocahontas interpreter and performer - most expressed and passionate performance and voice to date, in my mind. And I am still amazed at how wonderfully Pocahontas' Irene Bedard (speaking voice over actress) and Judy Kuhn were paired or matched ❤ to sound so similar. Helps to imagine Irene Bedard who even looks like Pocahontas 😊❤
Just saw a movie with Vanessa Williams, went to TH-cam to check her version of this song, then started this, after first verse got goosebumps... that's how you know what Judy did was MAGNIFICENT.
Back when being able to sing live mattered AND when people didn't have phones to attempt to record or photograph performances.... And those were good times. Agree???
They should have just released *Judy Kuhn's* film version as a single instead of hiring *Vanessa Williams* to record a 'radio-friendly' pop single. Granted, *Williams'* cover was a hit, peaking at #4 on the charts, but I bet that *Kuhn's* rendition would have gone all the way to the top. Everyone always prefers it.
Except Judy, I would like to propose You listen the Polish version of "Colours of the Wind" sang by Edyta Górniak.... she is the closest to perfection Judy presented. The only other version that gives goosebumps.
As talented as the other live singers are, Judy just has a quality unique to her, which makes me like it the most. Don't know what; but the tone, clarity in diction and warmth in certain phrasing with the nicely balanced vibrato is a pleasure to the ears.
