Hey Nick, just came across your video, thank you. Hope your glass is holding up well. Just came across similar problem, got new kitchen splashback, it's .5cm too wide, no one will cut it as it's toughened glass, image on the back, they said it will shatter. Can't return it as the return window's closed, and been quoted ridiculous prices for bespoke new one, as the standard sizes don't fit. Off to get the tools & supplies you mentioned, and attempt to shave off the 5mm myself. Wish me luck! I'm renovating our kitchen, and I've been at it for 2.5 months now, working every day. Not a builder, but good at DIY. 🙂

I have been successful before doing plunge cuts with a 30mm version of these small cutters. But unsuccessful on first attempt with one of those course green diamond blades. Its messy to experiment with larger sheets! But since I got the sheet so cheaply I shall try again. Big risk, big reward.. maybe.

Well in India we used metal cutting abrasive thin blade with small water running through while cutting and letting wheel do it's job and not pushing it hard , it does fairly well, a Clean and nice cut, i think you should give a try, but note that you should lay glass on a carpet for good support less vibration....try it thanks me later... please post a video of your job, and hope you will atleast give credit of success for my ideas ❤

What is this type of cutting called in the local market? Desi mistri ki bhasha me kya bolte hai isko? Need some toughened glass cut to fit a frame.

Bullshit. You cannot cut toughened glass unless you anneal it.

Tempered glass does not give you the convenience of fracture lines. All you get is a sudden POOoomf. But I have a good sheet of scrap laminated double pane tempered glass with one side that has tempshattered but the other side has not shattered on me. So I'll give it a shot and we'll see how it goes.

Men, i used the same method on normal glass, and always think it will work on tempered but never tried. I only suggest to lay the glass sheet on a carpet, so it will have less vibrations.

Rule of thumb! You can grind 1/3 of the thickness , using carborundum and water . Been in ghe trade 42 years and never seen anyone cut toughened glass.

So true, cannot be cut, easier to take it back and grind it down on a polishing machine, all care but no responsibility taken if it blows up.
Show us the label from the glass supplier stating it has been toughened, and or the etched safety stamp in the corner.

    Hi Nick
I need to cut a glass splash back-just a straight line and pretty much in half-can i do this and of so any advice?

Hi, if you tried that, I'm pretty sure it didn't work (glass was shattered if it was a tempered glass). Main principle is that you can remove some glass from tempered glass' edge but it should be around the thickness of the glass at maximum.

I have never seen tempered embossed glass , and tempered glass always has the edges ground simi round before the process. If you want everyone to believe you, you will unfortunately have to break a piece of that glass. I think it is probably just annealed glass.
