    I have several aronia berry bushes and I have 'air rooted' additionally ones successfully as well to get more. I am picking over 1 gallon of berries from each bush and I am very pleased. I raise chickens and recently gave some berries daily to a sickly bird and she loves them and after only a week I see notable improvement in her condition. Now, regarding the taste...it is unfortunate that we have lost touch with nature's bounty of natural flavors and we tend to expect everything to taste extraordinarily sweet or flavorful. I don't mind the astringent aronia berry's flavor at all. It is the end of August and they are ripe. While I agree, no food is the answer to all of life's health problems, my experience has been very positive and I plan on continuing propagating the native American berries and consuming them fresh, dried, in muffins, mixed in smoothies, in jams and preserves. They are great!!!

      The longer they remain on the bush after turning black (ripe) they become less tart.

      Well said, the flavour is actually incredible when sweetened with honey... or if your separate all the juice from the pulp.

      I planted a few about 6 years ago and make fantastic low sugar jam with them and also freeze some for smoothies and baking. You can find them in nurseries.

    I planted a few plants about 15 tears ago. We live in the pacific North west and they thrive here. No insects bother them, the birds don't even bother them until they shrivel, usually about Oct. I juice mine in a steam juicer and drink about 4 ounces a day. (They taste awful). I've been doing this for about 10+ years and as I have nothing to compare to so I can not comment on health benefits. I will say I'm a 77 year old male and in excellent health. I have also made wine, pies, and jelly with them. The Jelly and pies are pretty good but not the wine. If you want to try them you can order the plants on line. They are a nice looking shrub, are maintenance free and bear profusely.

      @@florencegosselin4457 ........Hello , my friend. I have been following this man Doug Kaufman for about 10 years now. He is a Mycologist. Mycology is the study of Fungus in humans.
      He took this a step further , and hired research Scientist to further study why people have fungus built up in their bodies. He discovered that it comes from the foods we are eating. It is the way they are grown and stored. He told of a study at a University where they compared a mass of Fungus with a mass of Cancer. Amazingly , both were identical in their genetic properties. They could not tell the two apart from one another. He said if that doesn't tell you that Cancer is Fungus , nothing will. He discovered that grains were loaded with fungus , and that includes rice and sugar .(which are grains) Peanuts and Corn are very bad as well. Also , obviously cheese and mushrooms. He formulated a diet called the Kaufman diet. This diet is similar to the Keto diet , but is more strict. It's about eating foods that are Anti-Fungal , which kill the fungus , and NOT eating the foods that cause fungus. Some fruits and vegetables which are high in natural fructose are excluded. You are starving and killing the fungus. I have been on this diet for 4 months. Although , I still have problems , I am doing much better than I was. Also , I lost 28 pounds without trhing. I feel more energetic and healthier than I have in years. Doug Kaufman believes that this is the cause of MOST health problems , including Cancer and Diabetes. I eat no processed foods , no take out .
      On the diet I eat eggs , cream (no milk due to sugar content) , I can have grass fed beef (other is fed with grains and corn) , wild caught fish , and pasture raised chicken and eggs , I can have fruit that is Anti-Fungal , which is all berries , lemons and limes , grapefruit , Tomatoes , coconut , avacado and green apples. I can eat most veggies except sweet peas , and no beans or legumes. (Due to starch) Starch and carbs turn to sugar. I can eat most nuts except pistachio and peanuts , and I can eat most seeds except sunflower. I bake using almond flour , coconut flour , etc. Instead of peanut butter , I eat cashew or almond butter. It's not a bad diet. I am used to it now. Oh , I forgot. No potatoes.
      Look up Doug Kaufman on U-tube. He also has a show on cable everyday called Know The Cause. His website is
      www.knowthecause.com
      I hope this helps you my friend. Try the diet , and give it time to kill the fungus/Cancer.
      I will keep you in my prayers. Trust in God and stay positive. 😊

    I think the health benefits of Aronia berries are understated, not overstated. More research is needed, but if Blueberries have been studied, and they have been studied extensively, than it would stand to reason that Aronia berries will provide at least, if not greater, benefits.

    Yes do your home work. Not only do these Berries have the highest levels of antioxidants they also contain all known antioxidants, but I agree they have become increasingly hard to find due to pharmacy Giants have been gobbling up the fruit for studies to isolate the molecules that have been responsible for not only stoping but killing and scaring over ovarian cancer, as well as enzymes that reverse atherosclerosis. But then again one wouldn't want cheep cures you can't patent, when treatments are much more profitable. But what do I know

      Choke cherries grow on a tree and are red, choke berries grow on a shrub and are deep purple.

    • @orustacres
      @orustacres 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are not choke cherries as they have NO pit. Choke cherries have a pit. Aronia are also knows as choke BERRIES, NOT choke cherries. Aronia berries are actually related to the apple and are the size and color of blueberries. Aronia (choke berries) grow on a bush. Choke cherries grow on trees. And yes, both choke cherries and choke berries both make great jellies and jams.
